Point of order. Bender is naturally is 4 years old when he meets fry. Plus, he was frozen in time on the "4th" series finale while Fry was still aging, but it ends with a fade to white so it's a factor we know nothing about until new series premier. Also, is Fry 1025 years old at the beginning of the series or is he just 25? Time was moving while he was not. In the same way you could say that time was moving, and Bender's head was not when they retrieved him from area 51 in the future. Or at least he wasn't experiencing anything new, or went into hibernation mode. He didn't mention any interaction between the 1950's and then. Plus it's kinda hard to determine the age of characters who also never grow older cus that's how cartoons work for the most part.

The biggest issue I have with this episode is that Fransworth says that they solved the paradox by killing their copies, but technically speaking they're not FROM that timeline, or more accurately, they're slotted in a manner that won't create a time anomaly since they're actually from the distance past, history TECHNICALLY remains unchanged.

Yeah, but in reality. How do you time travel again? Who's done it, what are the official laws that took over after quantum mechanics were laughed at like a stupid child made them and we made our first step into the past or the future and documented it fully? The only technical evidence you have is a bunch of fantasy, and also a bunch of theories made by scientists who specialize on theories that may never be proven. And even when they are proven, they're not proven. They just gathered enough assertion that the evidence was perceived correctly from authoritative figures in the scientific community and called it a day. The illusion being that if you can repeat a process and perceive the same thing over and over again, there will never be any other result, ever. In fact, we can see why people in society just love the platitude definition of insanity being doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. You will never know if you're doing the exact same thing, and you will never know the result wasn't different due to lacking the ability of absolute precise perceiving that would surely change your understanding of the cause and the effect of your experiment. Because that's the fallacy of "facts", they don't exist. Like a bank only loaning you money when you don't need money. If you have the collateral enmasse assertion on your side, you're good to go, and reality has no say in the matter. And the BIGGEST problem you should have with this episode is that the time machine is said to not move through space. Which it actually does a few times, especially when they have to use it as a boat. So when they arrive at the third time cycle, the professor claims that the only difference between universe 1 and universe 3 is that the third one is about 10 feet lower than the other. He didn't claim the possibility he could have been completely wrong about it not moving through space. Or that they had gotten the precise coordinates wrong from where they started. He perceived fact instantly, assuming his initial theory was correct even though this was the maiden voyage of his time machine. He literally pulls the old, "oh my god, the universe is actually wrong and I was right" move we've seen so many times before. Edit- Oh and he didn't even get that right, because they fell directly down. If height was the only difference, they would have fallen ON the universe 3 time machine. But instead they fell down and off to the side a bit thereby accomplishing the murder of their universe 3 selves.

If anything it might've caused more problems than it solved since now there isn't anyone to go forward into the... past, to kill them in the present. (got I hate the semantics of time travel) Had they arrived 2 seconds later they would have just completed the cycle and the whole process would repeat itself infinitely, allowing everyone to live and continue their lives normally. Well... everyone except Leela A, who still had to live the rest of her life alone regardless of outcome.

Looking back, I noticed something subtle but brilliant in this episode. Throughout the episode, you’re hoping the trio finds an era with a reverse time machine to go home, but the fact that it shows the aftermath, with old Leela running the company, technically means they never made it back. Such stealthy foreshadowing.

While that is true so does the actual logic not really work as they ones they reached time repeat 2 always had access to a backwards time machine. They just need to get the Binary Time travel code from Benders Big Score from Fry's ass while they know for a fact it was still there.

This episode does have a load of great moments, as well as some funny ones. My favorite gag is when they're progressing through time after the second big bang, and make a temporary stop so Farnsworth can blow up frigging Hitler with a laser gun. And then the second time... "Just slow it down, I'll shoot Hitler out the window. *aims and takes the shot* Darn! I hit Eleanor Roosevelt by mistake."

@@dylantoney6971 Yeah, he's still the same "moron". Like when fry gets worms, all of a sudden he gains the biological capabilities that make him more attractive to Leela. Yet one of those abilities was the self-awareness that she was only attracted to his changed self. The worms were affecting his brain, but his base self remained, which was for that original self to attract Leela. Also, I might add that he shows the most practical and common sense when he figures out the most direct route to get his micro robot double into where the worms are is to shove it directly up his ass, which I think is kind of a genius move, albeit slightly more off-putting, compared to the contrived ways the other characters do it.

This is one of the greatest episodes of the series! seeing Fry, Bender and Farnsworth going on an accidental trip through forward time was very interesting especially the part where they witnessed the end of the universe and then the birth of a new identitcal universe. and as for the B plot with Leela's feelings for Fry i thought it was pretty romantic when Leela carved a message for Fry into the ceiling of the then abandoned Cavern On The Green, and then Fry finding the message in the future was kinda sad but i overall enjoyed the episode.

Actually, that ending part has me thinking. Fry A ended up with Leela C, and Fry C and Leela A both died. But what about Fry B? Presumably he still went into the time machine, so is there just a neverending loop of different timelines of Fry flying through and killing every 3rd one?
@nuclearsteave1749
@nuclearsteave1749 2 жыл бұрын
Fry B and Leela B would have the same fate as their A counterparts but Fry B would skip over Fry C and take the place of Fry D. If the universe is the exact same every time then this would be a cycle of the C and D variants getting killed while A and B take their places but if it doesn't repeat the same then odds are that this cycle might not happen in timeline E and onwards
@GBDupree
@GBDupree 2 жыл бұрын
I remember one of the writers specifically added the joke of them skipping past universe B so that it makes the time loop work out so that Fry A is left alone in C while Fry B repeats A's journey ending in D. Therefore, there are no paradoxes! So, it's more than just a joke, but a way to fix a potential plothole.
@SacsachCCABP
@SacsachCCABP 8 ай бұрын
Wait, I found a paradox with this by just looking out the window. A > (jump over B) > Fry C Fry B > (jump over C) > Fry D So, Fry A and B are the time travelers, whilst Fry C and D are the “10 ft lower” ones. Fry A jumps over Fry B, who is a time traveller. Fry B jumps over Fry C, who has been replaced. In a cycllicic universe, there should be no way to tell whether you’re Fry A or Fry B, as they should have the same fate. However, there is a problem with this if they look out the window whilst jumping over a universe. Fry A would look out the window to see a living Fry, but Fry B would look out the window to see a crushed Fry.
@BananaWasTaken
@BananaWasTaken 3 ай бұрын
It’s a never ending loop of Fry killing every 3rd and 4th one. The loop repeats every 5th universe. Fry A travels forwards and kills Fry C, B travels forwards and kills D. This leaves E in the exact same position as A.

Once again, the "Sci" in the Sci-Fi of this episode is spot on. A hypothetical time machine would only be able to move forward, not backwards. Also, the cycling of the universe is another hypothetical that creates the "Fi" in the Sci-Fi.

For me, Fry and Leela had the most amazing love story of all time. No matter what, all the rejections, insults, and harsh treatment Fry was always there for her. She eventually came to see that and it was the most beautiful episode. I put Futurama up there alongside King of the Hill is one of the best animated series on television of all time. Fry finding out his nephew was named after him because his brother missed him so much, Fry's dog waiting on him when he was gone, just a couple of examples. There are many many more I'm having trouble remembering because I haven't seen the show in so long.

For some reason the video isn't loading for me. I'm just going to assume that it was funny, thoughtful, insightful and enjoyable to watch so I will leave a like anyway.

I actually love this episode BECAUSE it is as sad as it is, what a fkng masochist 😂 I just think it has the greatest punch in the gut with the message Leela gave him in the cave, that moment is carved in the cave… and in the depths of my soul😢❤ I love Leela, she's my favorite of all of the cast bc of how sincere, unapollogetic, determined, yet soft and sweet, loving and gentle, that she CAN be. She's a very multifaceted character, so this sort of episodes mean the world to me once i watched the first time, the more sad and touching, the better😢❤❤❤

3:09 technically both of them actually say you can't, Fry sleeping with his grandma was the entire reason he had no "delta brainwave" and why he's pretty stupid, so it was always something that actually happened, while benders big score showed how the universe fixes changes by causing events that destroy the paradox duplicates

Bender's Big Score didn't fix changes, it just destroyed the evidence. Fry changed the past a ton when he became Lars.

@@ShadyDoorags Good point, one thing as a kid that confused me was that when they first showed Seymour, they said he was "flash fossilized" even though they showed him dying while laying on a sidewalk, but the fossil is clearly standing, but then they showed Seymour flash fossilized by an explosion,....so was Seymours original death just not true? (Yes i realized that was random but i figured since we're on the topic of time travel and benders big score)

"Quinn's Ideas" made a lovely video where he explains why he loves sifi, where he goes over the episodes where Bender becomes a god, and the one where Fry thinks his brother stole his identity. It's a great video, and a recommend everyone in the world watch it.

It’s crazy to think that after this episode, Fry, Bender, and the professor are the only original characters from the universe we had watched to that point. After this episode everyone else was an identical version, but the versions we watched for all those seasons and were invested in would have actually had to go on without those 3 and we have to accept that The original Leela and Fry never ended up with that happy ending…we’ll fry did but not Leels. #feels
