12:00 The reason why it's called The Lost World: Jurassic Park is because there was already a movie called The Lost World that came out in the 30s (same one Crichton named his novel after). It had a dinosaur rampaging around London, which was the inspiration for the San Diego finale in this one. The jump from Isla Sorna to San Diego meanwhile is a homage to King Kong (both Kong and the Rex are transported by a ship called the Venture). Nobody likes that jump cut either.

ALSO, the Lysene Contingency is from the novels! At the end it's revealed that the dinosaurs that escaped the island prey on herd animals who eat lysene-based plants, which puts them in populated areas and thus they kill people along the way. For some reason Jurassic Park avoided the "dinos escape to the mainland" theme in the first, third and fourth movies, so this important novel storyline people just DON'T associated with the movies, who instead wallowed in generic monster plots that take the main characters to the islands instead.

This is one of the rare times that I have disagree with the KF crew. I'm fully aware that this is a hot take but I love TLW. Is it as good as the original? No. Is it my favourite? Yes. I love the tone of this film. It's like a darker, pulpier adventure film from the 40's. After we've seen the wonder of dinosaurs in the first film, thats not something you can replicate, so TLW goes heavier into the thriller/horror aspects of the original, e.g. the long-grass, the T-Rex in the tent, the opening, etc. And i like how the cast feels like they're a misfit crew that dont exactly get along, but have been thrown together against their will. Almost no one wants to be there, and i feel the dread and reluctance as Malcolm is pulled into a dino infested island once again. I will say that Srah does come off as naive and mildly annoying. I get that this island means a whole revolution in dinosaur information and research but c'mon, petting that stegosaurus' baby with no idea how it'll react? Not great, guys. Im sorry but the soundtrack, IMO, is my favourite of the series as well. I've honestly listened to the entire soundtrack multiple times all the way through. The heavier drums in scenes like approaching the island and the raptors in the long-grass play into the darker atmosphere and amplify every second, and I don't believe anyone doesn't get excited by the music in the hunt scene with Tembo's crew capturing all the dinosaurs. Speaking of Roland fucking Tembo, show me a more badass character in all this series. Pete Postlethwaite plays him to perfection. A grizzled veteran hunter quickly finding himself out of his depth and having to take matters into his own hands. Love it. Finally, the Cliff sequence? Best scene in the whole series. I said it. And as for the 'gymnastics vs raptor' and the San Diego ending? Never bothered me. Could they be improved? Sure. But they're existence in the film has never brought the experience down for me. I could talk about this film all day. I'd watch it anytime.

I am kinda surprised how much you all rail against this one. Its not great don't get me wrong but I read ahead of the class and watched 3 already and that one really feels like it falls off a cliff. Billy sensually digging dinosaurs, Grant says nothing will get him back to the island and 5 minutes later goes back to the island for the same reason as before, the talking to the raptors, the whole ending sequence. In comparison to 3 they did a good job with this one
@mikegates89932 жыл бұрын
The only good thing you can say about 3 is that it understands what it is and doesn't try to be anything else. It's a cheap action movie and commits to that. This one, it tries to be exciting, while also having its environmental message and that leads the protagonists to either do very stupid or boring things, or it leads to Nick being a protagonist even though he's as much the villain as Nedry was in the first one, but without a redeemable motive.

I actually love this movie, well the first 2 acts, the San Diego thing is something I’m so so on. I hope at the very least they mention in Dominion what happened to all the animals there. Especially the baby T-Rex.

Jurassic Park is the perfect example of the books being better than the movies. A detail left out of the movies is that the Compys' saliva has a slight paralyzing agent. So when 20 jump on you, you might knock most of them off, but you're gonna get bit a few times, which slows you down the next time 20 jump on you, so even more will bite you. Eventually you just stop moving but are fully conscious as they start eating your soft bits. That's how Hammond dies in the books. Also I'm 99% sure that there were some raptors that snuck on board the ship that killed all the crew in the book.

I still consider this to be a pretty good movie. Doesn’t hold a candle to the original, but it’s still a Spielberg dinosaur movie. San Diego section is NOT in the book. Book was definitely rushed, and not Chrichton’s best, but movie follows it very, very loosely. In the book, Kelly is not Malcolm’s daughter, and the second team is led by Dodgson, the guy Nedry calls out in the cafe scene of movie 1.

But TLW is one of those rare movies that I don't understand why it gets so much hate. It's far from being as amazing as the first, but is that's it's goal? I'd say for some people yeah, but for me I just want a dinosaur adventure with people being eaten (morbid I know). The gymnastics thing is not good, but it's 30 seconds of a 2 hour movie. And I LOVE the San Diego scene... I just think getting to that scene came out of nowhere, and was an obvious last minute addition. While I am nostalgic for this one, it is a wet noodle of an overall film, that is elevated tremendously by Spielberg. This is essentially what the first film would've been if it was directed by anyone else, which is really odd and funny. This needed a different director that can do schlock or pure popcorn entertainment which Spielberg just can't do very well with low substance material. Even he admits during filming he knew it was not good. Also, this made me lament that this film basically symbolized the end of Dean Cundey's career since he didn't get to participate in it, his visuals were sorely missed on this one. 3/5 on the KF scale.
