Thanks! Hopefully when my lesson video premieres in a couple of hours I did a decent job of teaching it!

@@cfaibah That’s because John is a fine private guitar instructor. I know because we were teaching colleagues at a school for a few years.

One of my favorite guitar pieces. I'd love to see you explore more KC concepts, especially from this era.

@@TurrigenousOfficial Are you a 'Fracture' 'Larks Tongues III' kinda guy?

What impresses me the most is how you can be so well versed in a legato technique like Holdsworth's and also be able to play a piece like this that demands picking every single note. Well done!!

Thanks! I started out more as a picking guy and still practice it! But legato made more sense to me when improvising.

Fantastic work, John! You sound great. I was just listening to this track the other day. Now you need to do Fracture!

Awesome. Very clean. Impeccable. Very enjoyable to watch. Bet you can't wait for the Beat concerts with Vai, Belew, Carey and Levin!

Nice one! Reminds me of a Steve Reich piece I used to perform, Nagoya Marimba (but I played it on guitar and shifted the rhythms using delays and midi guitar). I only ever did it live a couple of times because I'm easily distracted and all hell would break loose! I really admire your level of concentration!!

I had the Bill Bruford video in the late 80's that showed the drum part to this. It was the first difficult polyrhythm I learnt. 17 with the hands and 4 and 8 with the feet. Very fun to play on the drums. Strangely enough I was mostly a guitarist and I never learnt the guitar parts. Too many back and shoulder injuries to start now :)

I only learned about the 17 part recently. I never paid attention to it haha.

@@TurrigenousOfficial I imagine it's like Frame By Frame where on guitar just leaves one not out and in this case in the 4/4 sections with 16th notes it takes 15 times to come around?
@TurrigenousOfficial4 ай бұрын
@andy148 Pretty close. It's more like 7/4 (or 2 measures of 7/8) and 13/8, or 7 and 6. Still the same principle where it's unison then the pattern. It's much easier though as the only difference is how long you wait before doing the shorter pattern. It doesn't cycle that many times as after 7 times you'll get back to unison and stay there.
@andy1484 ай бұрын
Ha. I got it wrong. I watched your next video and yeah it's one guitar playing 15 and one playing 14 but I'm guessing the guitar playing 14 is just leaving one note of the riff out. I'll watch more of your next video and hopefully I'm right :)
