Just an honest question. When reallllly throwing down with a lovely suitor is there concern of collapsing the structure and squishing your pet? Stress on the animal thinking there’s an earthquake? Always wanted to do this but was nervous about it 🤔
@talkingserpents5 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. For my own piece of mind I determined the maximum of the people that would be sleeping on the bed including the mattress, and doubled the necessary strength after that. If not tripled. My wife and I were able to sit on what was supposed to me the weakest point of the enclosure. Nothing moved, creaked, groanwned, or cracked. 💪 😀 But do take into consideration that before building custom reptile enclosures I was a professional metal fabricator, so I have built more structures than I can remember. 😊

@@zoegoulet6102 I've built two of these reptile enclosure beds. A king size bed and a queen size bed neither customer has complained to me with any problems. My biggest tips are build it strong and seal the interior properly. I would personally recommend using pond armor on the interior. 👍😎

Excellent idea !! My bed is on a big platform with tons of storage under it and I lost count of all the times I'd considered making something like this !! :) The only reason I decided against it was because snakes require humidity and I felt it would cause the wood to break down even if it's coated with poly or something. Plus it would be a total pain to have to climb way back under it to keep it cleaned all the time. I have to give you props as you've made some gorgeous excellent quality enclosures !! :)
@talkingserpents5 жыл бұрын
Al long as the interior of the wood is coated or covered it holds high humidity great. I've been doing it for years with great success. 😁 I definitely agree about the cleaning situation.
@reptiletailz1082 жыл бұрын
Exactly that is why I'm gonna try making the twin and full ID love to make it into a bunk bed situation with the smaller one on top this way it's better for cleaning being higher up and say eye level just makes it easier to clean and even the one on the ground it won't be as bad because even the full size is half a king basically so it wouldn't be anywhere near as deep although he did have doors on both side so tbh it's kinda the same thing u can get to both sides half way in basically reaching the whole enclosure essentially I think it's up to what you're willing to do!!!!

Great workmanship i just think it will be a disliked idea after a couple monthes if not a neglected stink bole. I think it would have been useful to put hingeing tops on it so you could move the mattress open the top and step inside for cleaning . I am also betting it's going to be hard to sleep while a tegu is scratching around . I hope the coating on the wood can hold up to claws. One more thing if I had done this I would have had the bed overhang 6 inches on 3 sides to keep feet away from the glass while walking around the bed.. Hope you like it longterm. One good thing I see is if it's such a P.I.T.A. you could plywood the connecting wall and stack the cages as two halves in the basement for two good size cages that are up off the ground makeing cleaning easier .
