"Nan" is the person who says all the things many of us are thinking BUT don't have the nerve to express. I'm old now and Nan is my role model ! 😁 p.s My Grandma was Betty Taylor, had some great lines, some one once asked her "Who are you looking at ? " She responded with "I don't know, the fucking label has fallen off ! " 🤣

My wife's aunt was exactly like this character. Obnoxious and funny as hell. When she went into a nursing home I used to drive over and pick her up for family gatherings, and then take her back at the end of the night. One time we stuck a load of temporary tattoos on her arms to prank the other residents. She's loved, much missed, and never forgotten.

@alanjay9812 жыл бұрын
@@Shane-Flanagan Yep sheer brilliance.I think King B does take note of these comments, so he may get round to reacting to Derek in the near future & the 16min 36sec full version & not just one of the single short sketches.All the best.
@slashdisco2 жыл бұрын
YES YES YES, I'm always suggesting Catherine Tate's Derek to people who watch her clips and so few reactors have seen it! Nan's still her best character but Derek is just a smidge behind, and arguably has a longer-lasting mark on British culture through the phrase "How very dare you".
@alanjay9812 жыл бұрын

For American viewers, the sub-script to this is the frustration that many genuinely sick people have when they cannot get a timely GP appointment here in the UK. The upside of our system is that medical attention is free "at the point of access" (having been pre-paid through our taxes). The downside - and one the "Nan" character exposes - is that it is open to abuse by those who want time off on full pay.
@jiggytvnewman24982 жыл бұрын
I agree but also a comedic perspective of how society is soft and different to her time and how politically incorrect it now would be

Many people are under the misapprehension that the NHS is free - it is NOT. We pay for the services in our taxes. However, having said that, we have many foreigners that come here and get FREE treatment and it infuriates us Brits as they don’t contribute anything and put a strain on the service which in turn prevents people in the U.K. who pay their taxes from getting the treatment they deserve.
