Not very often will you see more cars in the actual all-star race itself then the Winston Open. Goes to show you how competitive and how much parity there actually was back in the late 90's and early 2000's. I don't think you will ever see that again.

This is a super underrated all star race that no one talks about. It can’t be stated enough how classy Junior was in the closing laps, pretty much any driver today would’ve taken the easy road and dumped Newman.

Wow what a race! I've been watching NASCAR since 2008, and this was the first time i've seen this race and this is by far and away the best All-Star Race i've seen. They just don't do it like this anymore!

When I think of this race, I'll always remember these two words- Frank Stoddard. Technically, that first The Winston stage was actually the only thing Burton won between Phoenix '01 and Dover '06.

Not really a big Kurt Busch fan, but you gotta love his interview at the end. Not many drivers will blatantly say they took someone out on purpose, usually they make up some lame excuse.

@@SHA8UTIE Jr never touched him but did come close. Jr took the air from underneath Newman's car. He should have but he never hit Newman. I was at this race and Newman was thanking Jr for not taking him out. Newman did take Elliot Sadler out though. That's another reason Jr should have taken Newman out. It was awesome being there though. This was the last Nascar race I ever went to. when they took Winston away from Nascar and made all those dumb changes, Nascar just went in the toilet.
@steelvenom330

Glad Newman ended up winning. Nascar was trying so hard to give it to Jr. That last caution where Jr had a bad restart and Nascar waved the caution because they "Didn't like the restart" was such bs.

What most people don't know is Jerry Nadeau and Hendrick Motorsports parted ways, lack of performance. No telling what might have been had they not split. Sad part is #25 had a very high turnover rate.

@FanoFinz
@FanoFinz 2 жыл бұрын
You're funny. Johnson doesn't even come close to Dale Earnhardt Sr. Jimmie won championships because of the crappy points system change. Jimmie was a subpar driver. He was given awesome cars out the gate as well. Dale Sr. had to earn a better car as the cars he started in were not that good and he didn't have money backing him up. Jimmie Johnson came into Nascar with a silver spoon in his mouth. Had he started out like Dale Sr. and had the points system not changed, Johnson wouldn't have won as many races and definitely wouldn't have won all the championships. See, back in Nascar's glory days, drivers actually had to work to get a better car, team, and race wins. They didn't come in with awesome cars and teams. they had to work their way up. So never mention Dale Earnhardt Sr. in the same sentence as Jimmie silverspoon Johnson. Jimmie isn't even in the same category as Dale Earnhardt Sr. I'm taking it you watched a Nascar race one day and it was the rigged race Jimmie was in at Charlotte. It was proven Nascar fixed the race so Jimmie would win. Do some homework dude before you ever put down the GOAT DALE EARNHARDT SR!!

This is why nascar is a joke. In the last segment, only ten cars were left and late in the segment, Kurt Busch spun out Robby Gordon, driving for RCR's #31 chevy. Robby Gordon would finish in 7th place, but was visibly furious with Kurt who later admitted that he intentionally spun Gordon to make the race "more competitive." Busch was later fined $25,000 for his actions. Gordon needs to sue nascar.
