Mostly, but I do believe spaces where merit is the only thing one needs to get the foot in the door still exist. Granted it's hard to find in corruption haven SA, but it's still there. Try harder to find it.

True but not in all industries. There is zero to no bribery in recruitment of health trained professionals, The problem is studying for popular qualifications where there is an oversupply & ambiguity, eg, Business Management, Political science etc

My observation is that there can be a disconnect between HR process or requirements and the actual division where the person is going to work. HR seem to throw a textbook at the process whereas the actual division know what they want based on what they have seen on practise.

I dont know if its just me but the concept of employability consumes a large portion of a persons regular life. Corporate wants growth and consistency but never Change. Humans are volatile and have to suppress their Change to represent the company. Im more convinced than ever that employment is for the career people or a stepping stone to entrepreneurship.

My highlight is the. Touch on bringing the human in human resource staff. I remember when I applied for one of the leading asset management firms in SA. The recruiter posted the opening on LinkedIn. They stated what they wanted and I met all the requirements but once I submitted my CV and documents I got a rejection letter of which I wasn't even shortlisted for an interview and when I enquired what I lacked it was one thing after another from academic performances which was not included in the requirements as well as work experience mind you this was for graduates I went further to gain a more relevant qualification for the job as well as experience to better vet me and still got rejected and there was no reason stated. Which is quite sad because if recruiters are honest one wouldn't waste time putting in an application as time and effort were invested in putting the profile together.
