If you want to understand the reason why gospel singers and musicians stand out ... listen to Aretha Franklin ... all this musicality is rooted in playing hymns, choruses and the blues and understanding song form ... not taught academically but infused innately in a church gospel spirit filled environment

Keep singing Aretha. Love the performance. I grew up listening to her music. My dad had started managing a band in the late sixties. They were very good, the female singer could blow the roof off the house. People would come and sit outside to listen. One day I was bringing my father from Dialysis, he wasn't feeling good, but when he heard the song come on he reached over and turned the radio up and said, Aretha can sing anything. Great memories. My dad passed after being on Dialysis for 2 Years . Had just made his 64th birthday on the 18th and passed on the 29th. 🎉
