The trick to these engines after a cold start is to run them slightly above idle, until they develop a little bit of heat in them. The engine needs to be warm in order to properly atomize the fuel. After a few minutes, I've warmed them as much as five minutes or more during winter, check to see if it will idle. Trying to drive with these engines cold is just more wear and tear upon the starter motor.

The suspensions are made just like the originals--with the transverse leaf spring. We have thought about making one with a coil spring suspension, but there are challenges getting everything to fit into the cockpit. The original leaf spring chassis uses 3 inch tubes and the tubes are closer together than the coil spring chassis. The coil spring chassis has 4 inch tubes. I imagine the coil spring chassis would handle better, but the original is amazingly fast as it is.

Yeah, in a straight line ;-). In Europe we like a bit more sophisticated suspensions, independent rear, etc. so one can corner like a modern car.

You are correct. No two of the original Coupes were the same. Kirkham basically took the best aspects of all of them I believe. They also are digitizing the original design from the original drawings.

Absolutely gorgeous! Are these based on any one of the original cars in particular? I've read that because of their hand-crafted nature--and a little creative license on the part of the Italian firm building the later cars under license (they wanted to make them 'prettier') that the original 6 Daytonas are a little like fingerprints; i.e. no two of the originals are truly identical, at least by modern production standards.

Will these cars have transverse leaf spring susp, like the originals? Would a more contemporary style suspension setup make them handle any better, though? That is one beautiful car! But it seems every Tom, Dick & Harry building replicas is jumping on the Daytona bandwagon. What would REALLY set you apart would be if you could somehow build a replica of AC Cars' works LeMans coupe. That was a sexy green beast--and it was reputedly just as fast as Pete Brock's version...

Finishing up a car is always a matter of tracking down bugs and fixing them. Social Media has a tendency to give a distorted version of reality, as most people only choose to publish their best photos, highest marks, etc. For us making cars is a journey that always has a few stumbles. Customers come to us from all over the world because we take the time to track down--and fix--all the problems we can. We are very proud of our cars.

I don't think that this car and a factory 5 cars are in the same league. Factory 5 cars are pretty much the bottom rung of "Kitt" cars. If you're on a tight budget, Factory 5 is where you go. If quality, fit & finish are what matters, this car or even Superformance cars are by far the best choice...
