I'm a 70's Kiss nerd and Lick It Up is when they were starting to lose me. I like about half of it which is way more than anything that came after. Defenders of the Faith is maybe my second favorite Priest album after Sad Wings of Destiny. Your assessment is about the same as what I would have come up with.

Those two guitar solo's in ROCK HARD, RIDE FREE, are soooooooo emotional & killer; First KK, then Glenn, into the ending harmony section...... Absolutely beautiful, soaring playing by this dynamic duo.

Lick it up - 8 Defenders of the faith - 2. Exciter and Dance all over your face lost. I never liked Defenders of the faith and thought it was Priest's worst album up to that point (until Turbo). I loved Freewheel burning though.

DEFENDERS is a masterpiece, for me, the last great Priest album. LICK IT UP.....man, i could never get into this and it steered me far away from KISS. I think CREATUREs was the last great Kiss album for me.

I've always considered KISS to be mediocre. Judas Priest is on another level. Rocka Rolla is better than anything KISS ever made.
