Contrarian me puts this at or near the top of their catalog! Bob Ezrin took them where they hadn't or never will go again! This is the album reason I joined up on the channel. Where are all my fellow Contras!?!!! Stand my back!!!! This wasn't meant to be the Wall part 2. It was supposed to be an emotional, theatrical , and more lyrical than they had been! If the band themselves had any semblance of togetherness it would have been a masterpiece. Love it. Thanks guys!

I just recently listened to the remastered version of "The Elder" on Spotify that has the correct sequencing order compared to the old cassette tape I had. It blew my freaking mind! I always thought this album was underrated but after hearing this version, I think this is by far one of the best Kiss albums ever. I absolutely love it! People need to hear this album as it was originally intended to be heard. It's a real revelation and eye-opening experience. I really wish Kiss would have done more stuff like this as opposed to the basic, by the numbers cock rock.

Hi Peter, fantastic show. You all came up with great ideas, but Reed`s story was amazing. There`s a documentary on KZbin that has Bob Ezrin telling the story of his part, in the writing & recording of The Elder. He said that he was using a lot of "coke" at the time , & he got "carried away" with his decision making . Also this is when Ace decided to leave the band. I bought Th Elder in 1981, when I was 16, I have it on cassette & it still plays to this day, I do like it. All the best Peter. 🎸🐑🤘

Loved it when it came out because I understood it was an experiment KISS was exploring. I still listen to this album today. Great idea for a show. You won a subscription!

I think of this album in terms of the band in 1981 it was hard for an established band such as kiss in the musical climate of the time while new wave and soon to be glam metal were popular at the time and after going full pop with unmasked I think the elder is totally experimental love it or loathe it you gotta give kiss credit for trying something totally different

What a strange yet great idea for a show. I loved everyone's take on the album. Elder is a top 5 Kiss album for me. I never listened to it until about 87, Not having the band on the cover, was a really bad idea considering how visual Kiss are...,No wonder it didn't sell. Had they released COTN in 1981 it could of saved the band. When you consider Dynasty tour in 79 had Priest as support and 1980 Unmasked Maiden were opening shows in Europe. So why they did not cash in on the whole flourishing NWOBHM movement in 81 which they played a part in promoting, was a strange decision in hindsight.

JayJay you are spot on per timing....that would have given KISS a huge boost...Alternatively, if KISS did the Reading Festival or Donnington in the UK off the back of the Elder and just played the heavy songs...there could have been a different outcome there (nb I heard that theory from Eddie Trunk on a podcast show...thought it was interesting)

What a great show! Not a big fan of this album although I believe "The Oath" slays. I like all of your reimagined track listings more than the Elder album proper. Reed's story still has me smiling an hour after watching this. Cheers guys!

Finally getting around to watching this and I feel like Reed crossed The Elder with the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. The Elder is still currently my favorite KISS album so this........interesting?

I was so disappointed with Dynasty and unmasked that anything that followed was a welcome change for me. I embraced the elder and still do today. It was a step in a harder direction. Musically.

I grew up listening to my older brothers Kiss albums, they stopped buying them after Elder, as I got older learned guitar (because of Ace) I came to realise Kiss fatal mistake was not going down the AC/DC road and continue to make the same album over and over again, for me personally Kiss is everything up to and including Love Gun, they tried everything concept album, shredder guitarists, except for Bruce they should of kept him, each to their own though

This took a minute to get together but, I think I've got a kick ass Reimagined "Crimes of the Elder" The story takes our protagonist into the seedy underbelly of NYC. When the rubber meets the road, it's put up or shut up so Johnny Two-times makes an alliance with Pauly Oliveri the bastard son of the mob boss Mr. Blackwell. His mobfather refused to take responsibility for Pauly and his mother and Pauly's going to get his attention one way or another. Johnny and Pauly try to make Mr. Blackwell pay for neglecting him and Mr. Blackwell aims to shut them down for good but, in a world without heroes, one man proclaims "I've Had Enough"! and plunges headlong into the fire to end Blackwell's reign of terror and free the streets of the city. I give you music from The Crimes of the Elder: side A: side B: 01) Watchin' You [ 06) Dark Light 02) Only You ] 07) The Oath 03) Nowhere To Run [ 08) Mr. Blackwell 04) Hard Times ] 09) A World Without Heroes 05) Partners In Crime [ 10) I've Had Enough (Into the Fire)

By this time, they had let me down enough that I really didn't care ... I was all-in from '75-'78 but even as far back as the solo albums, I began my decent down Kiss mountain. After a year like 1980 for a hard-rockin' metal kid, who needed this nonsense? And they looked rediculous! This was a worse look than the Dynasty vegas showgirl outfits. The chopped off haircuts didn't match the make up, etc. Next to everything else on the MTV, they looked washed up. As a fan from (almost) the beginning, this was tough to defend. It's not a horrible record but living through this specific time was painful.

@@RockDaydreamNation But yet I think most would take early 80's Kiss over late 80's Kiss any day. And probably over everything they've done for the past three decades. I kind of dig some stuff on "Carnival of Souls" though.

I was a bit disappointed when it came out, but I've always liked it and overtime it became one of my Kiss favs. The Gene songs are dark and gloomy, Ace's tracks are great , the rockers are very cool, and Paul is very much in touch with his more symphonic, melo-dramatic side (Odyssey is a fantastic song imo, and I know many people hate it and I get it, it's very dramatic). The only song I don't like at all is A World Without Heroes, and what I really didn't like back then and still fail to understand is the artwork. The cover is terrible and to me it played a big role in the failure of that album (and the look they adopted back then didn't help either). Listening to Mr Blackwell, Under the Rose, The Oath, I, Dark Light, Escape, Odyssey, I can only look at it as a terrific album just as good as Destroyer (without the legendary status of the songs). Stick Nowhere to Run and I'm a LEgend Tonight (from that same era), get Ken Kelly to do the artwork and it makes it a very strong album. It came at the wrong time with the wrong packaging imo. Cheers.

Thanks Purpletemple...like your take on this! (disagree on A World without Heroes...always thought this was one of Gene's finest moments...maybe im contrarian there!)
