I just have to say, THESE are the type of DIY/crafting videos I LOVE! I hate the "diresta" music video style that so many people like to make these- pretty much just music video of high speed building. I WANT to hear a builder's thought process, especially how someone works through a challenge, and talks about what he did wrong. I think so many diy channels these days take for granted that builders, especially people new to whatever it is about, get more out of the discussion about what's going on than just seeing pretty pictures. And plus if we're watching something, it's more than likely that we're passionate about whatever. So we aren't "bored" by watching and listening to whatever it is were into, no matter how long something. I've been a homebrewer for over a decade and I've watched live stream brew days being streamed, hanging out and chatting with the brewer and other beer geeks on line... My current main passion is making cigar box guitars and the same thing, the company most of us buy parts from has done live streams from their workshop while the owner of the company is putting together a new kit, and talk through his thought process about the build, and seeing him try something, figure it doesn't work and try something else. Just like in this video. (I watch all sorts of DIY/Crafting videos because I'm always getting ideas from other types of crafts to bring into my hobbies.) Great job. And I like hearing your enjoyment at what you're doing.

PartsAnother good job. With Ship models. I take the hull and turn it upside down letting the bottom be the top. It is usually flat enough for add-one and there are minor concerns with the hull sharp. I trash most of the superstructure and cut styrene to fit. One o the complex issues to work with are attachments for motion control. The best attachments are out of the camera view, but continuity may give you an issue with sides. So, before sealing the hull, drill small holes that fit 2-56 threaded bolts - glued with epoxy - to the inside. Paint with the bolts on. Then if you have these cleverly disguised on several sided - top and bottom, too - then you can attached wherever you need to for motion control with anything threaded 2-56.

So far I have watched a total of two of your videos, and I have to say, I am taking a lot away from them, I recently kitbashed a startrek vessel, all i did was slap a tone of parts on it with one word in mind,"Reaver." but it is not done, and now, today i shall visit a local dollar tree (1 dollar store) and find bits and bobs to make more ships. Very inspiring videos, one thing that dose stand out for me, a key part of any ship or vessel, Bridge spires.

The sprue (the frames that the parts are mounted on) makes useful struts and bracing, plus, with a candle or a cigarette lighter, you can extrude it manually, with a little practice, to form narrower struts or even wire detailing. It's also great for creating pivots for articulating sections of your model. I recently revamped a 1/72 scale vosper MTB front weapons mount using sprue to put in a more accurate and detailed version as well as replacing the radar/radio mast and ventilation tubes. While I was at it I also made a torpedo to mount on the display stand next to the kit. When I have time, I'll be fashioning Lewis machine guns and mountings to be fitted aft of the cabin as these were not provided in the kit, which I've had for 25 years. I also have scratch builds of F22, Sukhoi 75, BSG Viper and the Angel aircraft from British TV sci fi series Captain Scarlet (to equivalent scale). In my sixties but started when I was young. When the Monogram kit of Battlestar Galactica came out in the 70s, I was astonished to recognise pieces of kits of WW2 German tanks in amongst the detailing and that started me kitbashing and scratch building. I've also renovated an Aurora kit: American Indian (political correctness not included with the kit) from the sixties replacing a damaged hair braid, and the hand of a Chinese Lady, also Aurora from the same period. My largest plasticard scratch build was of Luke Skywalkers X wing in a scale of 1/30 for a friend and managed to warp it slightly to give the impression that it was in motion, despite being on a static display stand. Your kit looks awesome and I look forward to seeing it develop

Quite a few ships from Star Trek are kitbashes as well, though not all of them could be considered even close to being as creative or detailed as most of the ships from SW-canon. A couple of the good ones are Miranda Class (Reliant from Wrath of Khan), and Nebula Class (ST:TNG/DS9). They're both "bullpup" (short and squat) kit-bashes of the Constitution Class Refit (Enterprise-A) and the Galaxy Class (Enterprise-D), respectively. There are many other examples, but I won't get into that. I can already sense your boredom from all the way over here lol. If you really want to know more about it, Ex Astris Scientia is the best website I've found for that sort of thing. Every single ship that's ever appeared in ST is on that site, and there's a whole smorgasbord of them.

I know kits are real pricey right now, but I've found that Revell's 1/426 Arizona is an outstanding basis for kitbash builds. I know it's weird to say about a tool of war, but the Arizona was a damn fine looking ship. There's of shapely curves and appealing angles that can be accentuated in many different ways, and that Revell kit is just the right size for detailing. I've used 6 of them so far, and I can still think of many more possibilities. Revell's A-10 is also a great kit for parts. Every single component of that thing has a mean look to it, and it's about the same price as the Arizona kit, at least last time I checked. There's a lot you can do with simply the engine-nacelles from that kit.

I notice that you have a German tank kit - What I like to do with those, is to cement the big roadwheels together in a stack, and when dry, cut the stack in half, so you have two semi circular stacks that are useful for dressing on model scenery or ships. Using smaller half wheels at each end makes them even more interesting to look at, and more difficult to work out from where they came. Your model looks great - it reminds me of the ships from the late 1970's anime, 'Battleship Yamato', which is still one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Nice one.

I really like what you did there! But I got a little food for thought. The whole thing is based on a marine battleship, all weapons on the top deck and above. You might want to consider changing that, since this is a space ship, moving in 3 dimensions (vs 2 on the ocean). This means it would need to be able to attack and defend in all directions - if an enemy ship approached yours from below, it would be rather defenseless. Also, some "cannons" are in areas where they could do damage to the ship itself. Sorry for being fussy, you did a really great job 🙂

Kitbashing with standard kits is extremely expensive sadly. I like scratchbuilding mostly, but for semi-realistic build you need some 'recognizable' bits and pieces. I collect lots of pieces from machines and stuff that I take apart for building purposes, but the paint job holding me back (because i lack the skills) In my opinion loose parts are often more interesting in stead of the assembled consumer products. Keep up the extremely inspiring videos!!

You've really sparked my interest in kitbashing, something worth picking up for using on most models would be simple sticky labels and some rolls of letraline to give the subtle sense of panelling in conjunction with a bit of different tones. the letraline is 300m long, and sticky labels cost pennies but the 1mm thickness gets noticed & implies a lot of working construction?

That MEK "plastic" glue really works better for kit *building.* It's supposed to seep into a seam by capillary action and bond the plastic together. So it works best on parts that already fit together well, like a snap tight kit. For kit bashing, you *are* better off with superglue! If you need longer bond time, try two part epoxy or Gorilla Superglue Gel.
