Thank you for parts 1 and 2. My mixer stopped working while making rolls this morning (gears not motor) so I took it apart. I received it as a college graduation present back in 1994 from my parents so it’s a tad old! Looks like the worm gear is worn off on some of it. I’ve just ordered the replacement part plus grease and gasket from your website. Thank you for making this video! I hope I’ll be able to put it back together asap!

I just did mine too. Ordered the part and grease from this guy plus the gasket. I was able to save the original gasket so now I have a spare... I also ordered the grease removal tool, but I'll tell you what. I discovered round tooth picks and Q-tips are your friend getting the last bits of grease off/out. Drag the tooth picks through the gear teeth (break them in half and use the thicker middle for the larger ones) and wipe them on a paper towel after each pass. Works like a charm. Mr. Mixers saved my machine, and I did it myself! :)

I notice the original grease is black and yoiur replacement grease is white. What is the difference? Also, since the motor worm gear is so sharp at the tip, I think a short length (say a quarter inch longer than the grear) of clear plastic tubing slid over it would protect our fingers and be a useful safety feature for anyone planning to work on several mixers.

I find it easier to soak the gears in kerosene for about an hour and then they brush out real easy. You can also use some simple green and a short bristle brush to finish cleaning the gears, I prefer the GI toothbrush used for cleaning rifles, they are impervious to grease and easy to wash out. DO NOT soak any of the painted parts in kerosene! IT CAN RUIN THE FINISH!

I opened up my K5SS, I'm sure it's never been cleaned but the grease still is tan in color. Does that mean it's still good and doesn't need to be cleaned out?

This might be a stupid question, but for pieces that are like solid metal (like the gear you are cleaning at ~15:30), what's the issue with just washing it with dish soap since it will be completely recovered in grease again before running? as long as it is completely dried after, it should be fine?

You can, I would scrape Most of the grease off first as it will start to congeal if too much is on there. Hot water and dish soap will work however

I just bought my first mixer at a yard sale for 10.00. Its white, same model has the green one in your post. It runs but has a smell, probably old grease and sitting in a garage for a ling time. I found you on YT, but see you video is over a year old. The bottom where the bowl sits is rusted out. How do you repair this area and what paint do you use to change the color. I sure hope you are still in business.

MM, Great instructions. I was wondering what is the difference between the K5SS you show here and a K4SS? I have the K4SS in white. Is it a better or worse model that the K5 you worked on?

I can't seem to put it back though, last step trying to put the last pin back in the planetary movement the whole is off by 1 or 2 millilitres

Depending on the age, if it's powder coated you can use 70% isopropyl alcohol, if you start to use it on the older machines it can strip paint! Dish soap and a rag scrub hard

@@dans6377 the lifts are not all the same, the K5a and k5ss style have the same gasket as the artisan and classic, they are available in the store!

I am almost there - but i CANNOT get that pin out of the pinion gear shaft!! Imperative? I've bent 2 punches and put marks on the worm gear :( Working on a K5A Also, my worm gear is metal - and you are out of replacements - but can you get metal ones? All help is greatly appreciated :)

Any pointers if I just can NOT get that pin out of the worm gear to disassemble that part?? I have put the part in a vice to keep it stable and my punches are bending and the end of the pin is mushrooming 😬 I think I might just have to leave that part as-is

It's a real pain sometimes, have you tried rotating the gear and hitting the pin from the other side!

@@sartahsue just a lay person here....but for seized bits in other equipment I've tackled, some WD-40 type solvent-lubricant mix might be helpful. I'd certainly be very cautious about getting on any painted parts in case it ruins the finish. You'd also want to remove as much residual as possible as that would definitely not be food safe.
