I followed your vid and completed it on my 20+ y/o KitchenAid Pro HD. I wrote and told you that the machine quit running .... the outlet had shut off! I purrs like a kitten!! Thank you so much for the great instructions. I would recommend that one should have a snap ring pliers before starting. BTW, if anyone out there has any trepidation about beginning this venture I will let you know that I am a 74 y/o woman who retired two months ago as an admin assistant with no mechanical experience. I am proud of myself but couldn't have done it without Mr. Mixer!!!🥰

Don"t struggle with snap rings! This was a great video, but if you can forgive me for pointing this out, there is no reason for letting go of the snap ring when you engage it from the top and pull it off the retaining ridge. Simply squeeze the plier handles, and they open the ring sufficiently where you lift it off, from above, with ease. You added a lot of extra work for yourself! The also won't fly off the pliers, they're securely held in place by the outward force. Great video otherwise, though! :)

I just noticed that those screws do not appear to be Phillips Head, although a Phillips Head fits them fairly well. They look line Pozidriv screws. For the best fit and reduced risk of cam-out, get some Posidriv screwdrivers.

Love the videos. High recommend this addition to future re-greasing tutorials: when introducing tools, please include paper towels and alcohol (70%). I was following a video yesterday and cleaning while I was watching and when you introduced the alcohol, I started using it. It was a game changer. Would have been good to know earlier in the process while I was cleaning other areas of the mixer. Tanks for all the info!

Hi, I have checked around and not finding any solution off hand...Pro 600 runs and no grind, but when a load is put on (pasta dough) the machine heats up then turns off. After a few minutes it runs fine again unless turning a heavy load like dough. From what I am getting, this may be just a clean and re-grease as the original grease is old and broken down? No smoke, no smell and no grinding noise. Any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks!! your videos are very helpful, fun and will be the go to when I tear mine down ...

My 5 Plus was seriously lagging and black gunk was seeping down the shaft so, I decided to investigate. I took the housing off and when I opened it up I went... huh, is the great supposed to be black and shiny? I then found Mr. Mixer and the answer was obviously no! After watching the first video on "How To" dismantle my machine I went on to the, 'Take it Apart and Hopefully Get it Back Together", stage". Success!!! Cleaned up and degreased, I was off to my great neighbour who is mechanically inclined to inspect the gear. the worm follower gear was kaput and needed to be replaced. I found the worm follower gear that included a snap ring for an exceptional price at a MAJOR online shopping outlet, I love online shopping. Now I await the arrival of my gear to proceed to, the "I Hope I Get This Back Together Without Spare Parts Left Over" stage. Long story short, Thank you Mr. Mixer you are an amazing coach and instructor. I will commit in Part 2 of Mr. Mixer's instructions for a final review. Thank you again, well done!!!

The thing is I want to buy my forever mixer and I just retired and want to make different breads etc and bake. I bought a pro 600 last year and it is still in the box because the kitchen was being renovated. The question is....Should I be cracking it open and checking or regreasing it before I start using it. The idea being that the OEM grease job is inadequate? Thanks in advance. lol, or should I just return it and buy the breville chef mixer?

Unfortunately I keep having issues and maybe you had some insight? It seems like whenever I knead anything in my mixer, something pops loose and the gears detatch. I believe that the small ring clip keeps slipping out of the slot somehow. Its happened 3 times and is getting to be quite the process to have to keep taking this apart. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is so good and helpful. My issue is a bit different. My Pro 5 Plus, the shaft that you hit with the mallet to remove the worm follower gear has become separated from the bottom part (at 7:52 in the video). I'm not sure what it's called but the part that is on the outside of the mixer where you put on the attachments. The Worm follower gear came out of that. Is that all one piece or is there a way to reattach? Thanks again for the great video. BTW this did not happen while I was re-greasing, the bottom part fell off while in use.

Looks like you really know this mixer inside out. I have the same one as your gray 600. I was mixing something and not watching and the mixer jumped off my counter. The 3 prong plug ripped out. I turned off the electric and pulled out the grounding prong still in outlet. So now I need to replace the cord. Do you have any video or advice on that. I pulled off the housing and I don't really know what to do. Can you help me???
@MrMixer316
@MrMixer316 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I have a video up on replacing that cord or not. Yoh will need to remove the transmission housing, then on the very back of the machine, there are two screws that hold the motor in place, remove those and lift the motor and then you can get access to pulling the cord out. There are two clips that run from the cord to the speed board, just swap the clips and it's good to go

A good pair of snap ring pliers that fits the ring properly will make it even easier than this video shows, because you simply expand the ring until it slides right up the shaft and off. Make sure you have the towel at the top, because he's right they will go flying into the next county! Lol On this you can use either bent tip or straight tip snap ring pliers, but it takes pretty small tips. Some you can get with interchangeable tips, and they usually have something small enough for these, but make sure it's a decent pair, a lot of the cheap ones have misaligned or badly formed tips.

Remove some grease from the gear box and clean up around the thrust washers and bearing and sit on the front of the worm gear, grease gets pushed into the bearings and it causes that floating gear to knock

@@MrMixer316 Thank you so much! That makes total sense. So if it's just that, do you think just ignoring it will eventually fix itself or will it damage anything in the long run?
@MrMixer316

@@valemodsVD I would Def remove some and clean it up, allowing that to continue could damage the gears or the bearings themselves and if your transmission housing was plastic it could cause it to crack or break

How do you feel the Pro 600 compares to the K5 Heavy Duty and similar Professional model that followed in terms of construction quality but also the load they are able to handle? I know they are closer to the artisan in terms of voltage. I got a Pro 600 last year. As much as I love it am and confident it can handle bread baking, etc, something about the whole machine just seems cheap compared to my mom’s 27 year old Power Plus. I grew up watching Martha Stewart and Baking With Julia and get a nostalgic longing every time I see one of those older bowl lift models on Facebook Marketplace but have never been sure if it is worth the purchase. Thank you for all your useful information! Using your instructions to take mine apart and see if it had a metal or plastic gear box.

the Pro 600 (Costco Model) in my opinion is like many Made-for-Costco products: Great on paper, but lower quality in general. Same with their Vitamix offerings.

You're missing a key part of repairing / rebuilding these mixers.
@MrMixer316
@MrMixer316 Жыл бұрын
What might that be?
@letmepicyou
@letmepicyou Жыл бұрын
@@MrMixer316 The primary reason for KitchenAid stand mixers to fail is they strip gears. The reason they strip their gears is because the screws that hold the transmission housing together have ZERO LOCTITE. Thus, over time, vibration and flexing will work the screws loose. When the screws back out enough, the case is free to open slightly and the gear moves from its position, riding up and out of alignment, during which point they begin to grind instead of mesh. It is my considered opinion that KitchenAid omits using Loctite in their mixer transmission screws to encourage their failure. I feel the same about them using clay-based grease that deteriorates and breaks down over time. The grease they use is literally 1800's level technology. It is the cheapest and worst quality lubricant they can possibly use. To omit the step of applying thread locker to the transmission screws is to invite future failure and gear stripping. And this is a common aspect of EVERY KitchenAid mixer repair video I've ever seen.

@letmepicyou only what grease would you recommend using in these mixers?
@letmepicyou
@letmepicyou Жыл бұрын
@@glenngeorge201 I've had great results with CRC Part No. SL35610 "Synthetic Food Grade Grease" rated NSF H1. It's clear, and wonderfully sticky. A way better grease than what comes in them, for certain. Remember that synthetic greases are incompatible with non-synthetic greases like what comes in the KitchenAids, so your clean up job has to be meticulous. Make sure you get every last bit. If you have an ultrasonic cleaner big enough, put all the parts in your ultrasonic with rubbing alcohol. Does a fantastic job.

They honestly are built completely different, take the top off just like in this video, then two screws that are easily identifiable for the transmission housing and just put a dab, they require very little grease!

@@MrMixer316 Yes built completely different hence the issue lol. The only video I find on the subject simply requires an unnecessary board replacement...... I'm guessing the grease simply looks like a boat load and is really unnecessary because the gease has broke n down "gunktified". Everything else looks great no worn teeth of any kind but looks dry? I mean the main single drive unit you probably know what I mean. Not like in This video...... point t is....... I ordered some food grade grease and I don't mess it up.......
