Great Video, like all of your tutorials. I use the anchor method a lot for launching and landing, and always pull the trim strap to depower the kite so it does not pull hard on the anchor, unless the wind is really light.

My favorite is line walk... it is very easy and does not mess up the lines... especially when there is no anchor on the beach. I let the kite turn totally down, move 90• and walk facing it.

When landing with an anchor, I would NEVER have the leash disconnected before I have the chicken loop secured on the anchor. Once the kite is secured on the anchor, I would disconnect the leash and then connect the flag out line to the anchor as well. This does two things, if the kite pulls out of your grasp while transferring it to the anchor, it won't go blowing down wind on it's own. Second, once you have the kite anchored, if the loop or the safety release fails for whatever reason, or the flag out line will keep the kite from blowing downwind on its own as well.

Agree ! And i would never walk up wind to grab the kite... Big mistake !
@JaradVonNguyen
@JaradVonNguyen 2 жыл бұрын
Yep very dangerous. The anchor + line walk is obviously the best method with the safety leash connected to the anchor as well. low risk as long as nothing is downwind. If the kite goes crazy, you just need to run back up wind out outside the kite perimeter and pull the safety.

Have self landed plenty of times... surely the safest way is ejecting. However, the last technique can be done is much safer way, not requesting the rider to move all the way to the kite. You can simply reach the upper center line, move upwind and pull it hard. The kite will drop safely. Done it in low and medium wind speeds. In high Vs, is a little riskier. In low Vs, land with safety line up, and you only need to walk upwind and pull it hard, from behind the chicken loop. In high winds, always eject, as the kite can easily fly up again.

The line walk method is more successful when you take hold of the front lines and walk up-wind then towards the kite to let the kite fall over onto its back (pump up position). The kite is now depowered, straight down -wind of you and it is safe and easy to walk up the lines

exactly, but this only works for a low Y bar / line configuration. Otherwise you just cant reach the top line (like in the core kites shown here)

Can we have a remote deflation button; once we keep the kite as much as possible close to the ground, we will press that remote button which will trigger the deflation of the kite and no risk at all😀

Why are you not wrapping the safety line in a figure of eight? Why are you wrapping it over the end of the bar? Seems like that will potentially create a tangled mess

In my opinion, the colapse method 5:54 is one of the safest and I've done in 25 knots winds. If the kite launches itself, an experienced rider can easily control it. But you must pull the lines to put it downwind.

I use to do a sort of colapse and eject tecnique: take out power, start moving down in the edge of the window, then eject. Most of times the kite falls flaged out. When It goes wrong, is just like the eject method.
@kitesurfcollege
@kitesurfcollege 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Luiz, I think that's a good method too. Especially if your safety line is at the top of the kite. My safety line is my left center line, so if I fly the kite down to the right (towards 3 o'clock), and then eject before it touches down, the kite usually lands nicely. If I'm alone kiting, I often do this in the shallow water to make sure the kite doesn't get scratched on shells.

Past week was just me and another guy on the beach, he landed putting stones in the bag and attached the kite to the bag instead of asking me to kind of be the "bad ass guy".... When i finally reached the kite in open sea (it was going fast and i was not in the water) I was not even able to bring him back the kite because it was allready 2km from the shore, line perfectly in tensione due to the bag underwater that keep the bar "armed" and the kite facing open sea in relounch position.... Allways relaese chicken loop after you fix the bar to reach the kite. They are strong, don't panic to ruin it.. Best tech is to put it half way then smash it on the ground, then run downwind pulling the line downwind....but as he sayed > "be prepared if it relaouch, expecially if is a >20knt day :)

Do you really need to bring the kite to 12 clock to land with quick realese? The hit on the surface or if you are on land will be so hard for the kite
@kitesurfcollege
@kitesurfcollege 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon, no you can use the quick release at any angle. Our kite was over water, so it didn't matter - the landing would not be hard. If you are on land, then find a good spot with no shells, rocks, people etc. Then lower the kite to 9 or 3 o'clock and use the safety. Since my kite uses the left center line as a safety line, I would get the quickest landing if I lower it to 3 o'clock and use the quick release. If your safety line is the right center line, then lower the kite to 9 o'clock. Remember also that the kite will likely drift downwind after using the quick release (especially on snow), so the area downwind of you must be completely clear.

Could anyone please explain why the bar would travel several metres towards the kite when you activate the quick release? Why would it not just travel the length of the leash?

One thing about anchored; i live closeby a very gusty lunch spot, its just wrong that it cant be gusty, just be aware of the following: Be assure no one else is in the vicinity of your anchored kite(both upwind and downwind), make sure your anchor can take the wind, control your kite while anchored(if high winds, keep the kite as close to water as possible, since the windforce will be less and more "stable" there). WARNING HIGH WIND; if you belive putting on board at 12clock is smart......Dont do This! keep the %#"¤)(¤#" kite close to the water.......... TLDR; Got told so many times, ITS DANGEROUS TO LAUNCH ALONE, blah blah blah blah(highest ive anchored alone is gust 40-44kt with "stable" wind 33kt with a 9sqm bandit, its doable but i cant recommend it, it will wildy wander from sea to 12). But many of us kite alone, many times you start with alot of kiters but when you go ashore there is no-one there. My tip is to always locate a possible anchor before you start to kite. In my experience, you never know when you will be the last out of the water! A good anchor is your tow bar on your car, always bring a rope with spring hook on it! F-One kites!....pre 2019 have double safety lines(retardation) so non of these self land methods are possible in normal winds 18kt+. So anchor is my perferd option, any winds! Recommend learning it in low winds :)

Do you have a suggestion on how to self land Duotone Evo SLS with high V? Just got it and it’s not the same as reaching the power line to pull it down. Thanks!
@kitesurfcollege
@kitesurfcollege 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Crz4wnd. With such a rare and expensive kite I would definitely try to avoid self landing if at all possible. I'd hate to get the slightest mark on mine, especially as most repair centers won't even have the leading edge material in stock yet. Anyway with the high Y you can do all of the self landings exactly the same with high or low Y, except where you collapse by pulling the upper center line as the kite lands. I guess that's the method you're talking about, is that correct? For the collapse method, with a click bar and a high Y, your bright red safety line is the left center line (or it should be). So if you lower the kite to the right side (2:30) then the red safety line will be the higher center line. You can then let the kite drop to 3 (hopefully somewhere soft) and then pull in the safety line to help bring the leading edge down. It's worth noting that an anchored landing has less chance of scratching the kite (of course you need an anchor, and clean wind so the kite sits still). The line walk also has less chance of scratching the kite, but this take more practice and becomes dangerous in stronger wind. Let me know if you have any more questions. I will try and get a clip of this with my 360 camera some time.

@@kitesurfcollege that's super helpful and yes I used a buddy last time. However, the spot in which I ride we have to drift launch and self land in the same spot often, so self landing is needed in waist deep water in which you may not have a buddy readily available. If you can post a demo video it would be fantastic!!

@@kitesurfcollege One more question Alex, first time I used the click bar, and loved it but noticed that the TPU covered depower tube is a bit "sticky" when the bar moving at an angle up and down. Am I the onyl one that noticed that? is it a feature or a defect? or operator error? lol
@kitesurfcollege
@kitesurfcollege 2 жыл бұрын
@@ippovrohidis8840 what year click is it? And did you just get it? I don't have any sticking issues. I remember when my click was unused the tube almost felt like it had a glossy, lacquered finish on the depower tube, almost a bit sticky to the touch. So if it's brand new then you may experience a stick when the tube isn't straight. However, once the bar is wet, or after a few sessions the tube seems to smooth off with use and loose any surface stickiness (for want of a better word). I've tested a lot of bars and I would say the click bar is the best. It's got the most depower range, the most trim range, the most simple appearance allowing you to see your safety line clearly, and the best longevity* of any commercial bar. *To make my click bars last I never use the mechanism (the twist to increase angle of attack) when the bar's sandy. I can imagine sand might drop inside the bar if you twist while it's covered in sand, and that could easily reduce longevity. Enjoy it, and let me know any more Qs you have. Best regards, Alex.

Good question Peter. 40 knots is really only for very experienced, advanced or professional kiters (who will find a way to land the kite in a pinch); but even they really shouldn't go out on their own in such conditions. You definitely want a buddy or two in serious wind. Two days ago, in fact, I skipped a session as it was over 40kn and I was the only one at the beach (it was also raining, gusty and visibility was poor).

7:01sec yes you should do that in 25+ knots. even for intermediate riders, its not risky. its safer. practice it whenever you can. also you can do this with just the bottom front centre line. and if you are confident, you can unhook the chicken loop and leash and leave it on the ground behind you so that it doesn't get in the way and so that it doesn't get sandy by dragging behind you.

The advice on this video is not safe. For tethered landing never disconnect you chicken loop from your harness until the tether has been made. The girl in the video disconnected her chicken loop, had no control. If a gust of wind came she would be dragged off out of control. Never wind up you lines on water, again sudden gust can relaunch the kite, you have no control and you are in the danger zone. Generally, bad advice. Kite surfer 20 years experience.

If I can’t over shoot and stall land the kite I pull the safety and then I use the walk up line - either a safety line or a steering (wingtip) line. I use the hook on the bar and place a hand either side to feed the line - this way I’ve only cut my hands once (34 knots) in many years of cold heavy air. Line tangles can initiate relaunch but usually controlled by the steering line feed in.
