the reason he show the pull-up and pull-down circuits is because you are providing the switch down to ground and the 8051 chip is doing the 10k resistor connected to 5volts on the inside of the chip or the 10k resistor connected to ground if you want a 0volts on that pin and you press the switch and it gives you a 1, which is 5 volts cause the switch is connected to 5volts hope that makes sense, you provide part of the pull-up or pull-down circuit . kapish study these two circuits if you are new to electronics, it will open your eyes big time about things and voltage dividers too.

Switch things around in the code, make the switch equal to 1 and the led equal to 0 then turn the led around . the positive side touching positive and the negative side touching the pin. you get a brighter led . you're sourcing the power supply.

Sinking is always better for LEDs than sourcing from controller pins. Controller pins have very low output source capacity so it's a general practice to keep it in sink mode, however what you're saying is right a all

sorry keep the switch equal to 0 and make the led equal to 0 and after a delay make the led a 1 but do turn the led so it is sourcing the power.

Design, assemble and test part of an application which requires to display message “On” or “Off” to indicate status of a switch connected to P0.0 on alphanumeric LCD display. Write program also. Practically demonstrate the same. Pls explain or give video on this

In Simulation, its okay if you connect or do not connect crystal. But in hardware, its must
