I would just like to thank you for this seriously helpful video, my W164 ML320CDI developed a turbo actuator fault, and with the info in this video I was able to test, remove and replace the actuator very easily, with little more than a Bluetooth scanner, voltmeter and socket set. Unfortunately the T-shaped intake duct fell apart in the process so will be replacing that too but your video was instrumental in the fault finding process. Thanks again! P.S. One thing I would add, is that getting the 4x M6 bolts out of the back of the actuator is a pain, as is replacing them, and it's very easy to lose them. A few of mine dropped down requiring me to drop the underbody protection panel. Loosening the turbo heat shield helps a little but it is still awkward. A cleverly placed magnet would probably be a good idea if I did the job again.

FYI, I pulled the cover and put power directly to the motor terminals that connect via the circuit card - the motor worked. Great video. I am having same problems with my car (Merc W211 E280 CDI) but actuator seems fine (took out and checked wiring), and the part is only 2 years old. Did you check the electrical parts of the one you removed? I wonder whether the problem is the motor to the swirl flaps being damaged due to oil leakage via Turbo air intake gasket. I have removed the intake pipe (from both air filters) and cleaned gasket and area all around the turbo inlet. Have you heard of the 4.7k ohm resistor trick to bypass the swirl flaps motor sensor telling the ECU that the motor is fine? Could this cause longer term damage?

@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair I took EGR valve off again and cleaned it again, this time with the valve pushed open with a screwdriver. I also checked the continuity and voltage of back pressure and EGR valve sensors (all good). What I did notice when turning ignition on (not starting) was a rather strange sound from turbo actuator. I gently nudged the actuator arm, as maybe slightly in wrong position or sticking, then, when ignition started, actuator kicked into action. Cleared fault codes. Took it for a test drive. and although it was jumpy when accelerating hard, a horrible cloud of thick exhaust came out, cleared its throat and then was accelerating fine above 3000 rpm, tested for about 15 mins with normal, hard and kick-down acceleration. No jumping, through gears fine, appears fixed!! Not sure what actually did it but fingers crossed fixed now.

Great video, I can ask you where are your two grounding wires connected, and where are the power cords connected, just connect a 12v positive pole, and then connect the grounding wire to the ground of the car. Do I still need to find a grounded interface connection on the sheet metal?Waiting for your answer
@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair3 жыл бұрын
dl sun, the entire engine is grounded, so I got ground from one bolt on the cylinder head, and I got power from the positive jump start point under the hood...

Hi there, thanks for the video..but am wondering how does the ECM control the actuator by just using ground, cuz it looks like the lever goes to the end cycle and goes back to the other, what if the ecm decided to change direction it sends power may be..? Looking for the answer thanks.

Salah Kebi The ECM reverses polarity on the control wire to make the actuator travel on both directions

Nice diag bro! Is there a bi-directional command to the actuator in "active" mode? (I'm using autel)
@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair4 жыл бұрын
Sakeenah Auto Solutions , my Scanner didn't have a bi-directional command for the turbo actuator, I haven't used an Autel Scanner yet and depending on what model you have, but I think you might be able to turn it on and off with it if it can allow you, or you can test it manually like I did...
@Usmanthemecano4 жыл бұрын
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair mine did not either. I tried manual testing it but it was barely moving. So I opened up the shell. The motor and logic board are separate. Power and ground to the motor works. So I guess in my case the logic board is at fault. The "signal wire" seems to just change the polarity allowing the motor to turn left or right because manually by switching powers and ground directly to the motor would do just that. So we've ordered the Amazon actuator to see if it'll fix it
