This is why I've always seen Garrison as the most interesting character on South Park. Going from a straight man, to a closeted gay, to a gay man, to a trans woman, to a trans lesbian, and back. I don't think there's ever been a character like this before and I don't think there ever will be again.

to answer the pink triangle thing. The pink triangle was originally used to identify lgbt folks in the camps, but the gay rights movement in the 70's reclaimed the pink triangle as a memorial symbol for queer folks, and eventually evolving into a pride symbol, though it's generally fallen out of favor for the various rainbow flags and specific pride flags.
@lainiwakura1776 Жыл бұрын
Yes, and those same gay people who claimed the pink triangle still think the word queer is a slur and would take umbridge with you calling them that.
@shinerstheseagull8 ай бұрын
@@lainiwakura1776 I’d like to clear something up, as someone who identifies with the word “queer”: It began being used to describe homosexual men in the late 1800s, most commonly as a slur. However, even then, it also had positive and neutral connotations, especially when used by members of said community. During the gay liberation movement (especially after Stonewall), it was reclaimed from the prevailing negative use to describe a rejection of heteronormativity. It went the against gay assimilationist views of “we’re the same as straight people, we want to get married, buy a house with a white picket fence…” and proudly stated “we’re different, we’re queer, but that doesn’t make us less than.” I don’t want to digress too much, so I suggest reading up on it. Stonewall, what led to the gay rights movement, was not assimilationist. I don’t think that those hurt by the word should “get over it”. It was (and can still be) used to hurt many people. There’s nothing wrong with being uncomfortable with it’s use, and I support people letting others know when it makes them uncomfortable. I just don’t want people to act like all the gay people from the Stonewall era would be horrified some have reclaimed it. “Lesbian” doesn’t fully describe me. My romantic attraction and sexual attraction are not the same. I am queer. Please don’t forget about us Source for its historical use: “What does the word ‘queer’ even mean?” by Anna Iovine (Mashable . com), especially the source in the article from Timothy Jones

38:30 In my high school we had to carry around a sack of flour and pretend it was a baby. One of the students stood at the top of the stairs and tore his flour baby open and threw it yelling "Anthrax, anthrax, my baby is full of anthrax!" Also Garrison is absolutely wild, the show strikes a humorous balance between being utterly despicable, and then whips it around by making that the punchline, that it's despicable. It also makes a fun journey for Garrison.

I'm actually a little disappointed that my high school didn't shoulder us with fake babies/flour sacks as part of a bigger lesson in health class. I even remember reading a catalog for schools that sold animatronic babies for this very purpose except the catalog I was looking at had an option to buy an animatronic crack baby, which cried more often and required more effort to soothe/silence than the regular robot baby. It was a strange experience being in high school and seeing this catalog of "teaching aides" and just being horrified at the options available and being grateful that my public highschool didn't feel the need to purchase robot babies or flour sacks to teach us responsibility...

Mr. Garrison is a tough character in the “representation” conversation because before he was out as LGBTQIA+, he was an over the top deranged and terrible person. That instability was the original dominant character trait, and his progression to coming out was folded into what was clearly a disturbed mind at that point. The fact that the way he chose to come out and / or transition is in keeping with his personality as developed. It fit with his character, and I think part of representation is accounting for the whole character, not just the part of their identity that is “representation.”
@alexvaughan1013 Жыл бұрын

Bisexuals are normal people and so are homosexuals. My wife is in fact bisexual and she's proud of it. And even though she's bisexual she's completely loyal to me so it's not like there's anything wrong with her for being bisexual at all. But sadly there still are a lot of people out there who see that as a problem. She worries that even some members of my own family might have a problem although we have not found out for sure if they would because as far as we know they do not know about it yet

Some comments: The reason schools give kids recorders is because they are cheap and easy to replace and teach the beginings of how to play wind instruments. Here in Thailand they have something similar, it's a little plastic keyboard that you have to blow on a tube to get to play different notes. Also, the 2000 election was the first election I was eligible to vote in.... So now I feel really old!
