You can get the Klarus E1 with almost the same dimensions but it houses a 18650. That said, it also has a max of 1000lm. I think that making the XT1A more compact would be a great improvement. Or instead they could made a light with the edc philosophy of the E1 (short and slim), keeping the dual tailswitch, but housing an 14500! The result would be a more edc friendly tactical light with sufficient power and the functionality of the dual tailswitch, would buy 100%

I feel like there no point in having 1000 lumens in the XT1A because it jumps from 80 to 1000 lumens and it's clearly not a tactical EDC light.

That was what kept me away from buying it. I think its much to thick for a 14500.

That light is kinda big for 14500 size batteries! You weren't kidding when you said 'sized-up' lol

Yes you can get 18650ies in the same size.

I have and use the Eagletac D3A Ti with a 14500 (love it). Pros and cons to each. ET is thinner and smaller, and has head tight always turbo, then loosen to access modes...I think it is more floody too (less throw; more spill). This Klarus has an electronic mode switch on the back, therefore it has an inner tube which means thicker overall dimensions (like the Lumintop FW3A). I don't know if it has parasitic drain because of this, and some suggest having the inner tube makes it more prone to reliability issues. On the down side, the ET does not have momentary on, and is harder to go from turbo to modes with one hand (I actually prefer this). I don't know if the ET will fit a 14500 with a charging port, but don't have a 14500 with port to test with it. I don't use strobe mode, so I can't remember if the D3A has access to strobe from off (Group 2 on website).

So this Klarus XT1A has a momentary on? That's what I need for my job, I now have a discontinued Felix LD12 but both the LD9 and the LD11 I have too didn't have that feature I talk about.

This one or a Streamlight 1L-1AA? Which is better for edc? They cost about the same here in Sweden.

Do they make this in an 18650 version?

Too big for a 14500 light for the size rather carry 18650 light. Been carrying a klarus mi7 which I like cuz of the AA 14500 capability but side switch is annoying I was really hoping thus light was going to be smaller since I have the original xt1a that came out in 2010

*The Nitecore MT10A is 4.25" long, runs on a 14500 (or an AA cell), puts out 925 lumens w/fully charged 14500, and has a red LED for close-up work to preserve night-vision. That same red LED can give a precise reading of remaining cell voltage. AND it has a tailswitch! A must! Really like my Nitecores, including the hot 25700cd @1000 lumens P12GT -- but my most used light for all indoor purposes (with almost 46 years experience with flashlights) is the MT10A! It has been unbeatable.*
Not sure if you guys gives a shit but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf for the last few weeks :)

Does that flashlight tailstand?

Ugh WHY did they jump from a "high" of 80 lumens to turbo at 1000? Couldn't do something like 500 in between Klarus? Really guys? lol They need some new engineers.

Very similar to Nitecore MT10A

The MT10A you mentioned is a phenomenal instrument! At 925 lumens at full charge, it definitely has some usefulness for.many outdoor purposes. For most all indoor household needs, nothing I've found yet even comes close to the MT10A. It is only 4.25" long. And with that red LED for close-up work to preserve night vision -- which same LED can give a _precise_ reading of remaining voltage -- my MT10A lights are unbeatable. One of those is within my reach at all times, day and night. That is not hyperbole, either. This Klarus here has that dual tail switch which some reviews have stated are prone to failure if dropped on such surfaces as concrete, etc. Time will tell on that. .
