What made me sad about this situation is the CEO and some commentators online writing that the reason behind the hair lose BW may be experiencing is bad hygiene or excessive styling. Never heard anything like this in any other community. Never seen such gaslighting. Never seen anyone, any client be treated this way, specially while showing the damage caused to their body. like, are you serious??? Some people may want to continue supporting the brand but this is enough for me to never buy from Mielle. I'll use something else on my "stinky hair and scalp". I have some self-respect.

Exactly, I understand people saying go to a doctor to see if it's internal because sometimes that happens and it's always good to check just in case, but the specific gaslighting that happens within the black community about putting down other people saying they are dirty or they don't know anything about their hair is so gross. I would never assume someone who is experiencing sudden major hair loss and damage is just "not washing their hair enough" , it's clearly something else and it's serious to that person.

She’s actually pretty right about the hygiene, according to google If left untreated, a buildup of oil, sweat, and dead skin can clog hair follicles, causing inflammation and infection. This condition is called folliculitis, and it can lead to hair loss and scarring. Not washing your hair regularly can cause an accumulation of excess sebum on your scalp, which can lead to seborrheic dermatitis. This condition causes the scalp to become red, itchy, and inflamed, and scratching can lead to hair loss. Excessive styling can be a reason why some people lose their hair as well which makes sense. But overall everyone’s hair is different I’ve had many products that don’t work well with my hair and this one that everyone is talking about is pretty good on me I haven’t had any hair loss or any other problems so I don’t think that someone’s bad experience with a hair brand should influence your own opinion about it. I’ve had my bad share of products that don’t work but i always tell people to try it for themselves because my experience might not be their experience and the product might actually be really great for them. At the end of the day everyone’s hair is different and i think this is what should be taken into account with this whole situation.

Whenever big companies take over small brands in any industry, things change. The formulas always change in cosmetics and hair care because these corporations are hardwired to reduce costs. We need to just support small businesses with products that work. I get it, get paid. But it always comes at a cost for the consumer. Edit: Sometimes it can be vendors that change and not necessarily the formula. The change in sourced ingredients can drastically change a product even if the formula is the same.

The formula actually removed irritants that the original product had. They did not add anything that wasn’t already there. The problem is that the product itself is potent and has a high dosage of essential oils. I think usage overtime is surely to do damage if not used properly and for a short period. The oil especially is very potent. I am disappointed more so in the fact that people were not advised on how to use it correctly.

I have seen the study as well, the results were shown on rats who had a patch of fur shaved and were given minoxidi, rosemary. And a control group. . I believe that rosemary actually helps with lengths retention as it reduced inflammation and increases blood flow. There’s another KZbinr named Mayowa’s World that speaks on this, and there are people that know the founder in the comments speaking on unscrupulous behavior and business practices (one involving school children), and instances of lack of bedside manner involving customers and their reviews online. I also remember when the products came out a lot of people were speaking on how it left a tingling feeling, and then believing that it meant the product was working, but I also feel that initial tingling they raved about could have been their scalps/skin becoming irritated from the products, and eventually causing excessive hair shedding and hair fall over time. I think people can mistake tingling for “it’s working!” When it can be the scalp telling you “I don’t like this at all” some people also said the products were strong and contained essential oils, which can be irritating unless diluted (even though they are supposedly diluted in the formula). I saw that. I agree with Mayowa 100%. I don't doubt that something may have changed. Maybe it's the formula or the way it's produced. However, I don't think Mielle was ever all that to begin with. I bought some of their stuff before they sold and it wasn't for me. I'm no cosmetic chemist but leave in is supposed to be light and gentle. That rosemary leave in is so thick. It leaves a cast unless you really work it in. Then it has a lot of fragrance and essential oils. I don't have sensitive skin. I feel like my hair can handle a lot. It literally made my scalp tingle. In fact one time I didn't wash it off my hands right away and I could feel it on the skin between my fingers. Even before all of this Mielle was not a brand like Cantu that you can just recommend to anybody. I would not recommend this is you have sensitive skin, relaxed hair, hear trained natural hair, eczema, any kind of scalp condition. Also the things about sensitizing ingredients that ppl don't think about is something might work if you only use it every once in a while, but you use harsh fragrance and oils over and over it states to have a cumulative effect. So even of she's telling the truth and they didn't change the formula it could still be making ppl lose their hair.

Big companies will usually change ingredients in order to cut costs, which raises their profit margins. Also, I'm guessing Mielle is a publicly traded company, and if not yet, it's only a matter of time. When they go public, their main goal is to get the profit margins as high as possible because they'll have investors who want that check, so that's when things usually go downhill from there.

I have commented on another channel that I watch a cosmetologist and from last year she was saying don't put rosemary in your hair it kills the good and bad bacteria and eventually your hair will fall out. She also has spoke about coconut oil, clove and rice water and exactly what she predicted people's hair would fall out. The owner spoke about she has a background in science, it would be interesting to know what type of science? Something women need to take note of with all these trends going around manufacturers will make the product to cash even though they know the product is trash. I have never used Mielle but this has got me thinking, anyone can be allergic to anything so when we buy a new product we should test it. From now on, I will dab products behind my ear to see whether there is a reaction and is something people should consider doing. My last point since all these trends have come in women are losing their hair at an alarming rate. If what you are using is working stick to it. Don't believe the hype nothing can grow your hair any faster that what rate it is supposed to grow at. We can only work towards retaining the growth, eat well, sleep well, exercise, drink water, wash hair regularly, never let it dry out and be gentle with our hair.

I never enjoyed the notion that a business has to "grow" in order to be successful or useful for a community. Local businesses are much better for communities than most big businesses, no matter who is running it, because helping the community should be about connection and distribution of money. When your business is bigger and bigger, your money becomes more and more staggered when it comes to distribution. Money goes to the top and the people at the bottom and the consumers become numbers. That's how I feel at least.

I had never heard of Mielle before I purchased the rosemary mint shampoo last month. I used the shampoo about two or three times and loved it. It left my hair soft, smooth, and manageable. Just happened across this video today, Sunday, September 15. I promptly threw the bottle in the trash. It did nothing but good things for my hair, but I’m not willing to play Russian roulette w my hair so I’ll stick w my tried and true.

I don't normally comment but I've been going through awful health problems to the point where I've been left disabled. I normally mix and apply my own oils but I saw this oil in the store and decided to buy it to save myself time and energy. Now that I think about it, since I bought it, my scalp has been even more sensitive and red. My Mom says she's noticed me losing more hair. This is horrifying. I already have sensitive skin because of my health and this definitely wasn't helping. I can't imagine the damage that would come from using the rest of their products 💔

Good morning Mya, so I have been watching different videos about this company all week and I was thinking, people will see a bad situation and just add so much more negativity. Then, I did my hair care routine last night and noticed more hair coming out but I shrugged it off. Finishing my hair this morning and my hair is still shedding while watching this. I started thinking…. look at this new leave in conditioner that you added a month ago/ wash every 2 weeks. Melanin hair care conditioner was out of stock and tried a new conditioner, Mya… turned the bottle around and guess what I was using while twisting my hair? Mielle leave in conditioner, the only new addition to my routine. 😡 I am a minimalist with hair products and have been using the same products for over a year and now so much shedding. Threw that out immediately.

Rosemary makes my hair fall out in clumps just from using it from making a rosemary tea and putting it in a bottle to spray on my hair. My hair immediately fell out. I tried to change the amount and at one point there was so little of it in bottle there's no point in even using it. It's very harsh for certain types of hair. It’s the hydrolized wheat protein !!! I promise!! The same thing happen to me, but luckily it was the first time I used it!! I have high porosity hair and I am susceptible to protein overload, I know what it feels, looks, and behaves like on my hair type!! This was a severe case characterized by the excessive shedding! Prior to trying these product I was nearly exclusively using Indian hair care( fenugreek, hibiscus, bhirani, amla, etc) so my shedding was at an absolute minimum . I’m talking a dime size ball on wash day every two week!!! I was terrified when I started shedding!!! TO FIX IT; I clarified my hair with Ions clarifying treatment to remove excess protein from the shaft. Then did a deep conditioning(NON strengthening/repair/ restore/ etc..moisture only) treatment with heat, or you can do a fenugreek and hibiscus mask! Then deep conditioning weekly with heat until my hairs protein/ moisture level were balanced!! Also, the rosemary oil I made myself caused noticeable shedding, I further diluted it and use it as a hot oil treatment not a leave on!! I hope this helps some one, who is still suffering from the shedding!! Oh yeah I’ve been using shower filters for yeeeeaaarrrsss now!!! I will never be without one!!! But yeah hard water and heavy protein can be detrimental to hair and scalp health!!!

I’m not sure if I’ll use the new bottle I got recently but i haven’t had the issues these ladies have had. However, I’m a white woman with waist length mostly straight/slightly wavy hair. I also only use this oil sometimes. I’ll put it on my scalp 15 minutes before getting in the shower then I’ll double shampoo starting with a clarifying shampoo. I suppose the fact it’s only on my scalp 15 minutes before getting a deep cleaning helps. I guess if a woman still wants to try it, don’t let it sit on your scalp too long? Idk the solution, but I know this method seems to be keeping my scalp from reacting too poorly. Regardless of how my scalp reacts I’m sad these women are dealing with this. Getting something cause you think it’ll help just to have your hair fall out in clumps would be devastating! I hope they can get some answers cause I believe they’re on to something. There’s gotta be something in the product that’s doing this. I trust they know their hair well enough to not believe the nonsense claim that it’s “normal daily shedding” that seems like total gaslighting.

Never understood why black women flock toward hair products.....never will! When growing up we children used what we were provided (by our parents) water, a very basic shampoo no certain brand only that which was affordable, a basic hair grease again no particular brand but yet a particular brand which was affordable and served the purpose aka Royal Crown* and last but not least a hot comb. Always rocking pony tails or braids! Our hair never fell out nor was burned out by the hot comb. The hair grows naturally doesn't need anything more than washing and routine maintenance! Y'all buy all that mess making the rich richer and your hair gains nothing.
@TheRonnieaj
@TheRonnieaj Ай бұрын
Respectfully, it’s disingenuous to say that we all grew up using the same things. My mom slapped a relaxer on my head when I was 6 or 7; I haven’t used Crown Royal or a hot comb since then, and I’m almost 45. My mom used Creme of Nature shampoo, Infusium 23 conditioner, and Lottabody setting lotion. She was very brand specific, and at 77 still is. And most Black people I grew up weren’t wearing their hair naturally curly (as you said, hot comb was a “last but not least” item), so that routine doesn’t necessarily work when your goal isn’t to wear your hair straight. Now, do I think we have a tendency to always try something to make things happen faster? Yes, I do. I have staples that I rarely stray from, but I’m not using any basic shampoo on my head and I haven’t touched any heat besides a blowdryer since 2017 (and 2 was ONCE for my engagement photos), and I’m okay with both of those.

I studied cosmetics ingredients and looked at the products there is not much different ingredients the mielle products uses that aren't used in the popular natural hair products I will say they do contain a lot of essential oils and herbal extracts so it maybe people are having some allergic reactions to the herbs and essential oils like there is no crazy chemical in the products, they are all commonly used in skin hair products so it means either people are allergic to the ingredients or it may be too much essential oils that are used in the products ,moving forward make sure to always read the ingredients and use new products on smaller patches of hair to make sure it works before using it on your whole head,Also thank you for touching on the scalp build up I do not apply products that are meant to be rinsed out on my scalp as I get build up easily ,Hormones can also impact hair loss so please make sure it has nothing to do with hormonal hair loss and yes WATER FILTER PLEASE !!

For BW, our hair is spirtually life or death for us and makes me cry that we are feeling this familiar panicky mode about this hair product from a founder we expect to always look out for us! With that said, perception is a funny thing. You mention the Coca Cola never changed their formula (except the cocaine). However, when they did a mass taste test with the public between Pepsi and Coca Cola, most die hard drinking Coca Cola failed. My point, I lean on theory that P&G as a new big producer of the product to cut corners and mass produce one of a thousand products they oversee, the formula changed/diluted.

A whole lot of education about our hair and scalp and how they react to different ingredients and factors need to be considered when our hair is not growing to the best of its ability and when we are experiencing hair loss issues. It sounds like the issues are coming from the oil treatments and shampoo. I have never experienced negative side affects from using Mielle Moisturizer Milk. I use it in conjunction with Pink products (Pink shampoo, pink gel, Pink oil), the company that my mother would use on my hair since birth and of course water. My hair is thick and healthy. I don't know if this issue is linked only to her shampoos and oil treatments or if it is a combination of things at home like heat and chemical treatments. Regardless, if it is only happening to her shampoo and oil treatments, then that is a big problem that needs to be addressed.

First I have to say you did an amazing job on this video 👏🏾. Next let's get the emotions out of the way I've always had a sensitive scalp so I never know what's going to cause it to react to things. So it was hard hearing these women's including your issues with the products. The balding and shedding leading to tears, anger and frustration was horrible I wanted to hug them. With you I know you know your hair well so you luckily stopped before it got worse but what if you were using a new gel or cream and thought it was that? It would have been weeks more of trying to figure it out and I think that's what the company isn't getting. Everyone's hair and body is so different so it's your job as the company to test more after an acquisition since you have new scientific eyes on your product. Not ignore the cases of the allergic reactions or other issues. It's so disappointing that they didn't see this as an opportunity to fix what's wrong. Yeah the balding and shedding is horrible and you don't want to own it but your dry hair deserved better as well. Stop expecting our support if you aren't going to be meticulous about taking care of our hair. Thanks for this video 🤎

In my humble opinion trends seldom hold up to the scrutiny. If you have a product that works for you don’t totally abandon it for the newest thing. And I will advise anyone to slowly add new products so in case you have an issue then you will know exactly what is causing the issue. ❤

39:49 Hi dear your first numbers following your instinct/head calculations were accurate because when you updated the last 5% to a 10% the total was 110% I adore content creators like you who are thorough and provide clear examples, explanations and are willing to be corrected if needed. I know this means nothing taking into account the accuracy of the vídeo but I just wanted to let you know. Again, Thank you dear for your outstanding job. ❤

This is an informative, insightful, and balanced video on this subject matter. I never used the entire Mielle rosemary mint product line. I only used the oil serum. I always thought that even though rosemary and mint can be good for hair growth that those herbs should only be used on the scalp not on the hair shaft, which is why I never used the shampoo or conditioner or the hair mask. I also know my hair porosity and thought the oil serum shouldn't be used on my scalp everyday. To much of a good thing can be bad.

Good morning and thank you. Form the comments so far, it seems the Rosemary line may a concern, and it was specifically pointed out in the printed statement.

Here is a “pro tip” on product instructions. If a product says use a dime size amount start with that. If it isn’t enough for your whole head split your hair in half and use a dime size amount on each half. Basically break your hair down into sections until a dime sized amount is enough. Sometimes you need that small amount because a larger amount won’t spread well. I have enough hair for 4 people so that is how I use product.

Ok. No more Mielle for me. I did notice a bit more shedding going on. And I purchased quite a bit of product during one of their sales. Now I have a bunch I more than likely will throw out. And my bottle of Rosemary oil fell and the bottle cracked and the top part of the bottle broke off. That must have been a sign not to use it. I think I used some once from the bottle. Also, I recall people complaining about some of the products some years back about adverse results during product reviews and reports of her and her husband snapping back at people who gave reviews they didn’t like and I recall their being quite a few now that I think about it. So perhaps some of the formulas were off a bit from then.

Oh my God. I have been using her shampoo & conditioner since it’s been in Sally’s beauty. I already have CCCA but it was under control. I was doing so good until early 2023. I had to go back to my dermatologist this year to get my treatments again. My hair do feels different after my shampoo & conditioning. I’m throwing my products in the trash! I’m mad!!!

Unpopular opinion, but Mielle Organics founder Monique & her husband harassed & disrespected Linda Lynn (a black woman KZbinr) when she said she didn't like her products 4 years ago. It was the rice water collection. I NEVER bought any of Mielles products because of that. It was so unprofessional, childish, & a prime example of misogynoir. It's unfortunate that a lot of women are losing their hair, but that's black women's problem. Why shop with someone who disrespected women who look like you? We are the only race of women who do that. You can disrespect us & still have our money. Sorry but not me! I knew she was trash when she did that, so it's no surprise at what's happening now. So it's very hard for me to feel bad for the women who lost their hair because based on how the owner acted 4 years ago, this is the only way it could've ended. How people treat their customers & people who patronize their business tells you a lot. If you didn't know about the drama then you either live under a rock, or knew but just didn't care (it works for me so idc) & now look. So let's do better by ourselves & by each other. There were so many black women who defended Linda back then & God rewarded them. I think black women need to have discernment, be a little bit more conscious of where our money goes & not be so excited to see a black-owned or black-woman owned business bc all skinfolk ain't kinfolk & all black women aren't sisters they are just mammies

I see everyone is doing a video on this topic now. I haven't thought about doing a video on that. I'd never use these products and I feel so bad for the women that did use these products. I don't jump on the bandwagon whenever someone brings something out, whatever I have in my hair regiment that works. I don't care if it's been out for 30 years. I'm gonna keep it until they've just stopped making it.. I hope to pray these teachers.Everyone else and don't get on a bandwagon with everybody.If you have products that work in your hair like a teacher on my channel keep using them don't differ❤❤

Hello from London U.K. I bought the Rosemary Mint conditioner from them and the hair oil. I did used the oil only once and no problems. In fact it felt nice on my scalp. But I decided to continue to use my homemade hair oil ( glad I did). But for some reason I didn’t use the conditioner. I just left it on the bathroom counter. My intuition was telling me don’t use it. So when I started seeing the videos on Mielle products the balding the breakage the scalp irritation. I decided to throw away the conditioner and oil. I am NOT going to chance it. And besides my homemade hair oil etc is doing my hair so good.

I remember using cantu before the acquisition. It did wonders for my hair, but once it got acquired my hair became dry and brittle. I immediately stopped. I switched to hair products called Afro hair candy. My hair thrived and it grew down to my back. I’m not here to bash mielle but once these black owned company get acquired that’s it! The ingredients will change . It’s important to do diligence to research the ingredients and where the company is from

I’ve been natural 2018. 3 months ago I tried Mielle’s products I wash every two weeks. Every wash day my hair was literally falling out of my head from the scalp. Before my hair was healthy and full now it’s thin and almost see through. This never happened until I used this product and I’m so hurt.

I’m just a lowly primary teacher lol but the CEO shot herself in the foot with her online behavior. When will we learn to keep it cute and classy. I like the example at the end about the original being left with the original owner and allowing the new parent company to mass produce different “flavors.” I just started using the rosemary oil and I’m a “lazy natural” so I know for SURE I don’t follow the instructions. Definitely something to think about on my own natural hair journey.

If you want to be successful in any endeavor and/or business venture you do not need to be acquired by a bigger corporation or conglomerate to see growth, profit and success. The product or service will speak for itself. If you are going to do something great for the community, keep it at that and don’t change anything to “level up”! Success is not a justification for doing bad business. If it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it! It’s that simple! If you sell a bad product, word will get out and you will actually lose money. So there you go!

I always resesrch my products on the EWG site before purchasing. Ideally you would only purchase ewg verified products, or ones that are only level 1-2 (low levels of toxicity), so when i saw the oil was listed a moderate to high toxicity?? I was like girl bye
