Is this more thigh friendly that the fifty series? I’m a 38” waist with 46-47” hips. Looking for something athletic fit.

The engineering and materials science that is going into these single-layer moto jeans and ultrathin CE level 1 protectors is intriguing. Is anyone doing any side-by-side comparison tests to see if these are really going to offer comparable protection in the real world? Would love to see some hard data beyond the CE rating!

Nobody is really putting any interns into a full assortment of jeans and dragging them behind cars at the moment, no. Although we've floated the idea around instead of an intern-coffee-run. But it is worth saying - while the old CE Martindale test was just a test to see how long a piece of sand paper can roll around on the material, the new Darmstadt testing is miles ahead of the old one in replicating real world environment. If you get a chance, take a look at the Darmstadt testing machine in action on KZbin, its no "fun with the intern" type of parking lot test, but it certainly does a better job that the Martindale did.

@@patrickmchugh8039 I'm familiar with the Darmstadt, thanks. That is my point; It's not easy to find the actual measurements for a product from any given test, customers are told whether it passed a certain threshold, but not by how much. It would be nice if a "detailed breakdown" included real numbers, instead of just "Great protection, CE protection, the Best protection". For a simple demo video, I trust the good folks at Revzilla can be clever enough to think of a way to test without using human flesh or requiring their own darmstadt. If they can't think of a way, they can always check with their Canadian counterpart.

@@PMitchell106 The only people doing this are MotoCAP in Australia, using the older 13595-1 test equipment (the Cambridge machine). They tested the Saint single layer jeans, and the 66% Dyneema portion got ~1.6s of "slide" time in that test. For comparison, Rev'it's PWR|Shield knit reinforced areas score >4s, and some fully lined jeans get to 6-7s.

@@PMitchell106 yup. the D3O is the second best ultrathin protector out there Im aware of - it's listed as better then all their other Level 1 protectors kn absorbed wise. The only thing that beats it is the SasTec Tripleflex, which can get to level 2 (barely, but still impressive in a sub 10mm thickness).

Do we know what the denim is woven with exactly for abrasion resistance? Cone offers a number of options.
@patrickmchugh8039

I actually had the same question for Klim on this one. After talking with their designers they had CONE make a special blend just for them that they are keeping pretty close to the chest. It does use Cordura in the blend, but thats about all I could get out of them on the secret sauce. With it passing CE AA for abrasion, it seems like a solid partnership though that we might see a bunch moving forward.

@@patrickmchugh8039 yeah I have no worries with it bring CE AA. That’s insanely good.
@cblais19

@@shassabo Not really. I'd be impressed if it was CE AAA like the new Knox Shield jeans, or some other single layer offerings out there. Plenty of AA single layer jeans on the market for years.

@@patrickmchugh8039 Alas. I know Cone is a DSM partner, so I was hoping for something more interesting. FC-Moto's product page only says 65% cotton / 15% nylon. Pretty basic.
@patrickmchugh8039
@patrickmchugh8039 3 жыл бұрын
@@cblais19 Yeah I saw that too, but it's just not enough info for me to make much of a call. Technically speaking, when you look at the tags in jeans (which I assume they did for that product page), it is very broad/basic. Jeans that use Dyneema / Armalith will say Cotton / PolyEthylene and their percentages, but the construction and design of the threads plays such a larger role in the final product vs the ingredients alone. Definitely solid information, but I was itching for a bit more information from Cone/Klim. But I am also just a guy that geeks out on protective gear for moto for a living over here at ZLA ha. Thanks for the follow up!

Those two jeans will actually be close enough in protection that I would say there is no discernable difference in safety between the two. -Zack

These would be the fan favorite for mowing the lawn in your white New Balances and flipping some tasty burgers on the grill after your morning ride: www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/scorpion-covert-jeans www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/klim-k-fifty-1-jeans The Klim are pricier, but also include the armor, as well as use a bit higher quality materials all around. I hope that helps! -Zack

Largest size is 36 x 34....big boys need not apply....when will Klim pants match the sizing scale of their jackets!
@patrickmchugh8039
@patrickmchugh8039 3 жыл бұрын
We are updating that info, the largest size at the moment is a 38 waist for these and the K Forty 2 Jeans, but we expect to see that grow to 42 once Klim's factories catch up. Can safely assume that once customers start gravitating to these over the K Fifty line, they will be made up to size 42 like all other Klim jeans.

Guys we need more motorcycle content, I mean showing different products is cool but we need more about the adventures. We need more about the mechanics, tools, tricks you guys are getting away from the things that made you popular. We don't need to see a new product everyday. Best wishes!
