Good work Lian - Western visitors can be very nonplussed in trying to understand Indonesian etiquette. You are helping them avoid embarrassing themselves or their hosts.

In the Philippines, there is something similar to "salim", we call it in Tagalog as "Mano po" though

Thank you for a very clear and informative introduction to Indonesian etiquette. One thing you did not mention, because it feels so natural, is that lmost all of these gestures and postures are accompanied by a warm smile. Indonesians are very sincere people. Terima kasih 😊🙏🏼

A lot of these gestures, especially salim (called "mano po"), passing through, and the sorry clasping hands are also done in the Philippines. :)

That "permisi" is like in Mexico you say "con permiso." I always do the bow and hand gesture with Mexicans, but seeing your video I now wonder if it's from learning bahasa forty-five years ago.

Great work! I think your videos are wonderful, and would be easier to find if you put better more general searchable hashtags, like #indonesia #etiquette #travel. Your current hashtags are a bit too specific. Thank u for sharing great videos!

Addition for rule number 4: If you are a guest and the owner have opened a door and let you in, it is the better to take off your slippers or shoes in front of the door before entering. This is the usual manner for Indonesians because they respect the clean floor of someone's house and feel ashame if they keep their footwears on entering the house, considering they will make dirts on the floor. Another reason of this manner because in the ancient times, Indonesians are used to take off their footwears before entering somebody's house to show their respects to whom they have higher levels than them, such as the older persons or some from higher castes like Kings, Queens, Princes, Princesses, or any governments. But if you are the owner of the house, you can ask your guest to keep their footwears on and enter your house with it, they will feel comfortable because you have allowed them.
