At the time of some event you're just broken, lost, confused and just overwhelmed with sadness. Granted at times you heal and move forward trying to not let it bother you whatever it is. But in most cases especially for people like me, those other feelings turn into raw anger whenever I think back. I however say let music be music and she is undeniably talented. Also my personal opinion. She is the only person who could step into the role as co vocalist in Linkin Park. If it was a male co-vocalist the comparison to Chester Bennington would always be there. By going with a female vocalist they gave themselves a "new start" so to speak, which is reflected from the album of their coming album "From Zero" which is a double entantre reflecting back to a former name of the band(Xero) I guess.

Emily Armstrong, she used to be in another band before, I really like how, you can hear the similarities in her voice with Chester's, without being exactly like Chester, like it's similar but different, it's like she knows his style of singing and screaming and wants it to be similar so that it still sounds like the classic Linkin Park we all know and love and she can make him proud and do him justice, while also simultaneously still keeping her own style and voice and being herself and still unique and different, so it's still similar in that it keeps that classic LP sound and vibe, while also being fresh and new and unique, it's like, paying homage and remembering Chester while also moving forward in a new and fresh way, I saw another comment that said it well, if it was a male singer there would be too much comparison to Chester, having her still gives that classic LP nostalgia while also being new and fresh and different as well

When I heard Heavy with Chester and Kiiara I knew a female voice would become part of Linkin Park. Losing Chester nearly lost us such an influential band. But they held it together and this opens a new chapter, the turning of a page of a story that did not end with tragedy... That still brings hope. Many of LPs tracks were a light into the darkness many people feel. I know, hoped, never gave up that they would come back. This is going to continue to be an amazing ride.

I was always a huge fan of Linkin Park, when Chester took his own life i was way to young to really understand just how impactful that would be. Im happy to see them making music again, No one will ever forget Chester Bennington.

I thought the lyrics were really lazy lyrics about a bad relationship. Your mention of the critics/haters/SM really makes sense, and the lyrics have so much more depth and bite. Thanks for helping me to enjoy the song! 🙏

It’s almost like this song was designed to be speaking to the critics as a response to them tearing the song apart, after seeing all the people upset about this new singer “replacing” Chester, and all the critics raving negative insults, tearing them down, the lyrics have a whole new meaning, especially Emily’s.

I highly recommend 'Friendly Fire' and Chester's other band Dead By Sunrise. I have a voice acting background and use his songs as a vocal warm up. The vocal training itself for me was really tough, sometimes without noticeable results for months but artists like them or Chino Moreno, Chester Bennington are a great impulse to not give up : was almost Leon in those new RE games :)

But Killswitch engage was able to have a great new singer then Howard left to do his own thing. So I don't know. I will say I'm not a fan of all the audio filter crap it sounds REALLY fake. Imo

Hey Knox. I was waiting for your reaction on this and as always, Great breakdown especially on the symbolism the Emptiness Machine, with respect to the critics and people's perceptions on them, because, we lost Chester 5 months after their latest album "One More Light" was negatively received for being different from their original music, even though it was good. So the new Singer/Vocalist is Emily Armstrong and the new Drummer is Colin Brittain in for Rob Bourdon, and in the role of Chester Bennington, is all of us. Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Joe Hahn, Dave Farrell stay on in the band. Also Knox, tell me this. How is your brain so sharp, cause by analyzing the slight difference in the percussion, you realize that there's a new drummer? Haters and critics will always be there, but we cannot spend our time thinking on what they said and thinking what you're doing is not good, cause that's exactly what they want in the end. You should watch the livestream where they introduce their new album and the new members in a concert an seeing the live chat will make you understand how toxic people can be and how they refuse to accept change even if its the only way out.

This song goes so hard. I liked it from my first listen, but the more I listen to it the more I feel it. And I really love your interpretation of it too, by the way. People do love whining and criticizing while sitting on their asses and doing nothing, without trying to imagine what creating something is like, and the challenges of doing it in a group and publicly too. I’m not sure that’s what the song means for them, but I think I agree with you. It can also be, more broadly, some sort of companion piece for Numb, because a lot of that song was about dealing with someone else’s disappointment, the weight of people’s expectations, and pushing back against them. Except Numb was more depressed and kind of defeated, this song sounds more angry and frustrated. Not to diss Numb because it’s been my favorite LP song and the one I related to the most, but… I think I am really feeling the lyrics of this song too, now. But also, I’ve heard and read of other interpretations about different situations and I love how everyone is reading this song in completely different ways. That’s what a great song does. I’m so pumped for the new album!!! And Emily sounds incredible, and sure she kinda got some notes wrong in the livestream, but I’m confident she only needs time to get more confident with the past material and slip into her role as the new lead vocalist. I think when things settle down and people get used to her being in the band, we’re gonna get into probably the most exciting phase for this band in a really long time. I’m so ready for it. ❤

Where it is genius is when they start the harmony and you think they are going to provide the old Linkin Park rasp with harmonies. AND then she drops that hard rasp solo and the song explodes. This is AMAZING on every aspect a song could deliver.

I think that also the song is about the greater society itself. As George Clooney said in Up in the Air, "How much did they pay you to give up on your dreams?" as he fired some office dude who had a minor degree in French Culinary Arts. So many people are in that situation now, where they are looking back on their past trying to figure out how they got here and how they have become someone they never thought they would. Definitely Linkin Park doing what they do best. One song so many interpretations. That's how you stand the test of time.
@atroxozaur4 ай бұрын
I understand (to an extend) people saying this is not the Linkin Park anymore, without Chester and Rob (drummer) and they should have made a new band to really hit it with a new start. But at the same time idk, i don't feel bad about it, i understand it. It's been 7 years since we lost Chester, they all mourned, left but came to the conclusion they still want to perform, and i'm pretty sure Chester would want it that way considering how much he loved music. But for that they did need a new Lead Singer, and getting a female was a good direction to avoid TOTAL comparisons to Chester. He had amazing vocal talent that not many can recreate, ofcourse it's gonna sound different and weird, but seeing mike and band genuinly happy to be back i just can't be mad. Chester wasn't the only part of Linkin Park. Also Amy really sounds superb here, and even on older songs, i think she really performed well few of those (Her "Lost" was beautiful) and i'm sure she's gonna be even better when she accomodates to such big changes. Idk but she fits the vibe of LP, especially first albums. You can also see how old songs were made for Chester's voice. Here she sound wayy better because it's composed for her vocals. Regarding Emily's controversy, if everyone knows about it, then so do band members, and yet they accepted her and you can see they have a chemistry and wanting to perform together. Talent is not everything, which they actually discuss in interview on their channel. She did questionable things, but we don't know if she didn't leave it all behind her. People do make mistakes, a lot of them actually, and i'm pretty sure we'll hear all about it at some point in upcoming albums. Regarding the song, i totally love it and i'm genuinly excited for what the ALL NEW Linkin Park will bring.

Black Sabbath had 9 different vocalists After Ozzy. Linkin Park is a great band but lets not get confused, they're not Sabbath and life goes on as long as the only songwriter doesn't pass. Shinoda can just keep it rolling, he knows how to write the jams.

Dude, your interpretation literally proves the point of why Linkin Park became so big in the first place. Their music has a meaning and emotion behind their lyrics but resonates with so many different people because it can be interpreted in so many different ways. She brings so much new but familiar to the band at the same time that it explains why Mike and the boys felt it was time to move back into the limelight. Im so excited for what theyre going to do.
