People need to realize that Wilt did it using skill and not brute force even though he had the greatest athletic attributes at 7'1" tall.
@youngblood4127 Жыл бұрын
They'll never realize it. People are to dense or lack nuance to comprehend. Especially this newer generation basketball fan. They too worried about inflated 3's, confusing handles with being more skilled, and instant social media gratification. Oh and complaining when their favorite player doesn't have "Help". For them, Help = 2 or more all-stars with and a bunch of depth to fill out a roster. Oh and if a player has that, they'll tear him down simultaneously and say he wasn't good to carry a team by himself. You can't win either way.
@underground4012 Жыл бұрын
@@youngblood4127 People always talk about the size in the 60s. Well Wilt would still be a giant regardless at 7'1 with unmatched strength, athleticism and underrated touch. Imagine what we would witness with today's coaching and shooting drills. He put up all those numbers and I've yet to see him use his left hand. I feel like he'd be a more athletic Embiid, which is frightening 🤣
@bos3835 Жыл бұрын
@@underground4012 he really did have all of the offensive skills. He was finger rolling, sky hooking and doing everything else before many other greats did it. There's a clip of him in practice shooting 25ft sky hooks and every one of them were dropping. The man was a once in a lifetime player.
@bos3835 Жыл бұрын
@@youngblood4127 it's so funny how these youngsters talk about handles when these guys now all are palming and carrying the ball. Not many have post or midrange skills and their basketball IQ is extremely low. The coaches these days play switch defense giving the scorers the matchups they want everytime, their IQ's are also low. This season is half over and before it reached that point there have already been a record of 40 point plus games this year. The rules are completely fixed for offense. Being a person that grew up in the 80's in Chicago to watch today's NBA is frustrating. I've had too many debates with young fools online in the past few years. Notice how the most dominant players now have old school skills, Jokic, Embiid and Luka. All three have post and midrange game with the ability to hit a three. And Luka and Jokic are two of the slowest players in any era.

They didn't have an official count of blocked shots when Wilt and Russell were playing, and we likely will never know who averaged more between the two, but IF Russell had more, it was only by a wee bit.
@ignoblesavage55593 ай бұрын
@corbinmcnabb so, HOF statistician Harvey Pollack picked out over 100 random games from both Wilt's and BR's careers and rewatched the games in order to count blocked shots. Here you go: BR: 8.2 blocks per game Wilt: 8.8 It should be noted that he didn't just pick their best games, either. There were several games for each where they had 0 or just 1 or 2 blocks. And I know for a fact that Wilt had games where he blocked as many as 25 and 27 shots against Detroit & PHX, among others games of 20+ blocks. Newspapers reported it.

The man has around 90 records still in the books and hasn't played for 40 years. Shaq was a monster, but Wilt was taller, stronger, faster, way more endurance and the league changed rules to slow hinder him dominating! "You obviously never saw Wilt Chamberlain play who undoubtedly was the greatest scorer this game has ever known. When did MJ ever average 50.4 points per game plus 25.7 rebounds? (Wilt in the 1962 season when blocked shot statistics were not kept). We will never accurately know how many shots Wilt blocked. Oh, by the way in 1967 and 68, Wilt was a league leader in assists. Did MJ ever score 100 points in a game? How many times did MJ score more than 60 points in a game? MJ led the league in scoring in consecutive seasons for 10 years but he did this in an NBA that eventually expanded into 30 teams vs. when Wilt played and there were only 8 teams." Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in an open letter to Scottie Pippen after Scottie Pippen referred to Michael Jordan and Lebron James as the greatest scorer and greatest player, respectively.

Wilt had too much respect for the sport to just bully his way around, in college he used to get beat up by players hitting him, BITING him, etc etc when he scored or grabbed boards. And he left to play as a globetrotter because of that. Not saying using your physical gifts isn’t okay, and that Shaq was unskilled; he’s a phenomenal player who’s more than just strong as all hell, just saying Wilt would’ve never played the same way.
@bricefleckenstein966620 күн бұрын
During one season, Wilt had streaks of 7, 6, pair of 5, and pair of 4 games all over 50. Pace helped some - but many of those games were *60+* and at least one 78 point game in there. And a bit OVER 25 rebounds per game. Also keep in mind that he was facing Bill Russell 12 times in that season - including his 4 LOWEST scoring games (26, 28, 30 and 31 points).

I think he was saying his goat list, or some other list, backwards(Jordan then him then Wilt) Doesn’t really matter though, Kobe had too much respect for Jordan to put himself ahead and also valued winning too much to ever say him > Jordan because Jordan was a better winner. So even if it’s not backwards it’s at least not him saying he’s over Jordan in the GOAT convo, would have to be some other category then.
