Arrived in Bangkok to begin my 10 year dream of living in Thailand. Currently in ASQ and then staying in Bangkok for a month to get some things organized like banking etc. After that Bangrak on Samui and wherever life takes me. These videos make me so excited to get to the Islands. Such a unique time to be here. Love your channel!

Thank you Art. Sound needs some work tho (mask muffle aside). I need an external mic like most other vloggers use. Resisted thus far as just wanted to keep it simple using a phone and no external attachments like gimbal, mic etc to constantly attach and charge etc. But will have to mic up to improve sound so will be looking into this soon. Looking to come to Thailand next fall. Hope to see the Islands of Thailand March through April 2023. I plan on doing a long term stay of 4 week to a month, but when I look at the asking prices of places you suggest, they are 2 to 3 times higher than they are givingto you ( and that is just for Spring of 2022). Should I forget about making long term reservation in the islands of Tao, Phangan and Samui; and just make contact when I am there?
@SideTripLife3 жыл бұрын
For sure prices are currently discounted as stated in the vid. Next fall or even next month will likely be a completely different outlook of course. But looking at Agoda at mid March 2022, Blue Wave House is 1474B/$44 USD night and Chaantalay 1063B/$32 (not bad really for nice rooms in mid season on a tropical isle). Still, see several others under 800B/$24 like Sairee Hut (nice, beachfront too, stayed there last trip) etc and SC Cabana and others sub 500 baht. Anyways, personally wouldn't book more than a night or two in advance (actually, I usually just go;) then check out places first hand on the ground for best deals/location etc. For monthly deals would look on FB Koh Tao Rooms For Rent. Have a great trip Tom.

Hey! I'm coming to Koh Samui (and maybe elsewhere nearby?) for a month starting mid November. Do you suggest I spend the whole month in Koh Samui, or just start and end there, with flexible time on other nearby islands? I'd like to do some diving, snorkeling, jungle/mountain hiking, and plenty of relaxing/dining/drinking ;)
@SideTripLife3 жыл бұрын
Personally, with a month would do all three. Only thing to factor would be which way? If coming from Bangkok I would take a night sleeper train to Chumpon (or day train and spend a couple days at Chumpon beaches). Then boat from Chumpon to Koh Tao and after a a few days boat to Koh Phangan, then Samui, then boat to Surat Thani and fly back to Bangkok via AirAsia/VietJet etc (cheaper than flying from Samui). If I had extra time, would also hit Khanom, it's like Samui 20 years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/enOqhWeunbF9o7M If going the opposite direction would fly into Surat Thani, also great for a night out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaC6cp-Obs2elbc Then exit 3 islands hop via Koh Tao to Chumpon and train back to Bkk. Either way, a month on the islands is gonna be great!!! Enjoy!

There is a wee bar area at Sairee Beach but not typical bar beers per say, just a few convivial little places + a LB Cabaret type place. For a pub crawl, start at Lazy bar (great spot) plus a new sports bar opened (near Barracuda, another nice place, rooftop chill). Here's a look up that lane with the small cluster of bars from my previous visit last year: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnS4hJR8prx3bNU and: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHeqi4lpYpKFf9U Up Sairee beach towards Mama Ochai's there's Goodtime (local Expat hangout & good live music sometimes too) + a great shack/bar in front of Scuba Shack, always nice folks there. Plus great little places for a pint in Mae Haad as well like Tatoo etc. Also most little bays around the Turtle have a few convivial beach bars like Shark Bar, Pirate, etc etc. Love Tao!
@LEObondTraveller3 жыл бұрын
@@SideTripLife Thank you Muchly STL for that detailed treatise of the Koh Tao bar scene and the subtle use of the very KZbin friendly word "convivial' (-: Apart from my grade seven English teacher I have never heard anyone actually use that word in a Real life sentence before. So congratulations. Thanks also for the video link. Ive actually watched it many times before, but naturally in daytime vids it's hard to know exactly what the bar vibe is at night obviously. I will be saving your detailed info for future reference. Thank you for keeping the dream alive for us all. We love you and hate you at the same time as we sit back in the western world reality (-:

@SideTripLife3 жыл бұрын
Depends when one is arriving and if electric is charged Govt rate or double as some places do. Besides looking at Agoda, Airbnb etc, google 'koh tao room rent facebook' and you'll see several nice places currently from 6000 - 10000 THB ($180 - $300). Again, be sure to ask how much the electric rate per unit is (ranges 5-10 baht per unit)
@Malin0313 жыл бұрын

How much can you expect to pay for electricity per month if you use the aircon regularly and cook about 4 times a week?
@randomname8393 жыл бұрын
Make sure you get a place that is 10THB or less per unit, preferably 5THB per unit. I use a lot of electric and cook a lot, my bill is around 2500THB per month for a family of 3 in a small house.
@SideTripLife3 жыл бұрын
Around 1500B/$50 or higher for constant use, or if paying higher than Govt electric rate of 4B per unit (some charge twice that).

When you stayed at mama’s, did you feel safe there leaving laptop and things there when you went out , I’m seriously thinking of staying there for 12 months from December
@SideTripLife2 жыл бұрын
Never really thought about it, just left it and went out. Never had anything stolen in Asia by locals (had a phone nicked by a foreigner once;) However, best to always use common sense of course. Also, would stay a week or so at any place to see if it really suits before entering into longer term agreements. Last, those prices were at the height of 'Rona, so check latest prices (I just did, looks like fan bungalow is $12 on Agoda, perhaps higher in coming high season, so re-check then). STL

Recommend have a look on FB groups 'Koh Tao House Rentals' (there's usually a few gems;) Chaantalay shown in the vid looked very nice too but prices will be post-rona rates now (still likely great value). Best NOT book long term until you've arrived and seen in person to make sure it suits your needs. STL

I hear that also from a few others but just for the record, have spent a couple months on Koh Tao over a couple trips and never felt in any danger, nor threatened, nor met any other than absolutely wonderful local people. With regards to the well known case in 2014, my heart goes out to Hannah & David's parents and all parents and families affected, including the Burmese lads Zaw Lin & Win Zaw's families. Such a tragedy (and seeming travesty) all round. However, the entire island, thus all the hard working locals should not be tarred with the same brush. Lastly, I feel safer on Koh Tao or anywhere in Thailand than I do in many places in the West. Just my thoughts, thanks.
