Excellent video. My Kohler Courage 24hp was a freebee from my neighbor because he said the engine was junk and not worth more than scrap. It had several issues including the fuel solenoid plunger being frozen tight. Watched your video and addressing the solenoid was easy. Runs great now. Thanks again.

One important comment: The fuel solenoid needs to be grounded when testing. I was about to order a new $120 solenoid then I figured it out. Excellent video overall, gave me the courage to trouble shoot the carb on my non running GT 1554. Thanks Jeff, I learned a bunch.

Just cleaned carb on my GT5000 Craftsman 25hp Kohler. I did not know how to check solenoid. Engine starts but only if I play with choke and then it either sounds like a jet or struggles. Do I need to redo carb or is it something else? Maybe new choke cable. It doesn't seem frozen, just sticky maybe. Is that a possibility? I will check in morning if I hear the clicking sound. Would it start if solenoid is stuck? Great video, trying to get it running after several years of sitting. Getting good at removing carbs, already cleaned the carbs on two mowers and a rototiller! Just would be nice if didn' t have to take it off again, but will if necessary! Thanks for any advise!

Jesus I can't believe how dirty that motor and air filter was . I got a 22hp Kohler courage on a zero turn that you can eat off of at all times and it's 12 years old with 700 hours on it to boot. Garage kept and wash it with soap and water every two cuts, in between cuts it gets blown off very well with a leaf blower. When I replace filters and other maintenance parts on my machine they are still in such good shape you could install them as replacements on another machine! I'm watching this because I want to see if there's more than one fuel mixture screw, like a low speed and high speed screw or if the little adjustment screw at the top of the carb is the only fuel mixture screw because I've adjusted that mixture screw on my mower to richen the mixture as my plugs were white as a ghost but I'm not sure if I'm missing another adjustment or not, I'm pretty sure I'm not missing anything but you never know, not like I ever use manuals or anything. And this carb looks nearly the same as the carb on my 22hp 725cc kohler so I'm hoping all the same applies. Finally why do people leave gas in there machines for years , Christ drain your fuel at the end of every season for crying out loud, it's common sense and easy to do.

That motor looks literally identical to my 2007 22hp Kohler courage motor , looks like a lot of parts are interchangeable , I wonder what's different about this one that gives it 4 more hp, if it's just bolt on parts that make up the extra power id like to def look into swapping out mine , but if it's increased CC's that make up the extra power obviously I'm outta luck cause I ain't swapping my motor out for another especially when theres absolutley nothing wrong with it.

Why didn't you remove the fuel mixture adjustment screw on the top of the carb to clean inside that passage as well ? Shouldn't every component that's removable be removed to properly clean a carb , I mean that's how I go about doing these type jobs , everything comes out , and I use a hell of a lot more carb cleaner when I'm cleaning it as well as spend a lot more time pushing thin wire through all the ports and passages , not just 3 simple quick strokes , that's hardly enough to do anything. I also let all my removable pieces like the float ,.need , jets etc all sit in a little cup that had enough carb cleaner in it to completely submerge the parts , and I'll let them sit in there for about an hour while I clean the carb then scrub them with a tooth brush once they've soaked for about an hour.
@JeffsLittleEngineService5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a good idea to clean the slow speed passage as well. However, it is usually not needed on certain style carburetors

I’d find out who the manufacturer of the carb is and order a kit from someone that sells them. Sanding a brass needle valve should never be done! Clean it with carb cleaner only! No carb part should be cleaned with a q-tip! Only use carb cleaner till it is clean, as cotton fibers can come off and stick to the part. That will cause additional problems of not seating properly or keep a jet from operating properly. If it won’t fully clean, replace the jet from a kit.
