I would cut the top part to remove that black trunk. Also let it fork at a relative low point

yeah I've been thinking about that, was considering cutting the top off and grafting it onto my seedling...or making a Frankenstein Avocado Tree.

@@AvocadoTalk what’s in the plan for this year? I’ll plant as soon as Ellen feels the trees are big enough let them go. Last year it was about mid April. I need to make a Maddock run to get just a few more Fuerte and Nabal since she doesn’t raise those ones. Our local Whole Foods is selling “Green Avocados”. I’ll send you a picture and see what you think. I don’t know what they are. I showed to Alder and he thinks it’s Zutano

@@AvocadoTalk The Hass and Bacon are ready but the Pinkerton is taking a long time to ripen. Hopefully the Hass and Bacon doesn't go bad and I can post soon. Your Avocado Grove is really looking great and your avocado trees are thriving. Look forward to watching your next video!

Good variation of trees you have there. I like the A’s and B’s layout. I took your recommendation on picking up some local avocados and citrus from Wake Farms today. Keep us updated on your Kona.

Hi Daniel, got some more last week and they are ripe today. I need to tell them to try to keep part of the stem on the fruit. Margrette (wake farms) told me last week that she appreciated the shout out and people were telling her they came because of my channel. This is good for all of us . One day we're both going to have our own. Thanks for watching and being a part of the journey!

Hi there ACIM, I guess it's all relative. I'm used to avocado trees in 5 gallon containers at $20 each but everything going up in price. Compared to other fruit trees it's still relatively inexpensive. Thanks for watching!

Impossible to find right now but 3 years ago it was 50% off at the home Depot. They were clearing out all their citrus and I scored. Should have bought them all, they had 3. The fruit has been good, they smell amazing! I'm going to work on getting it to fruit more this year. Thanks for watching!

I like what's called a 360 degrees adjustable micro spray. You can adjust volume and radius and add more to the tree when they grow. It has worked better for me than just a dripper. Thanks for watching!

Hi Eddie, it is the same, the real name is Sharwil but people are calling it Kona Sharwil because Hawaii coined it and it stuck. Thanks for watching!

I’m gonna plant all my avocados trees within the next few weeks. What’s the best mulch I can get at lowes or HD for avocados?
@AvocadoTalk
@AvocadoTalk 2 жыл бұрын
I use only native soil plus gypsum for the hole, no organic matter. On top I like using Kellogg's cactus and succulent mix, it drains really well. I use wood chips as mulch. Anything that isn't colored, natural would work, not too big chunks. GL and thanks for watching!

Will LaVerne Nursery ship to any lowes in California?
@AvocadoTalk
@AvocadoTalk 2 жыл бұрын
It depends, California is huge. I know they send it down to San Diego and nurseries like Walter Andersen Nursery. I would give them a call and see. I coordinated and they sent them to my local lowes. Old video on my channel somewhere. Thanks for watching and good luck!

with bubler/dripper like that, how often and how much do you water?
@AvocadoTalk

Hi James: The current flow rate based on this video. The Blue micro spray was measured at 0.2GPM and the Yellow flag emitter at 0.042GPM totaling 0.242GPM. So I'll run it for 10 minutes twice a day every 2 or 3 days right now with the temperature at low 80's. I want to keep it moist to ensure that it does not dry out. Once established, I'll monitor leaves and adjust accordingly. I think this is the most critical time right after planting. Thanks for watching!

I ended up pulling the one in this video out and replaced with another Kona Sharwil from Brokaw on Duke 7 Rootstock and it has really taken off and flowering this year. I'm sure there are fruit, haven't looked too closely. This is 3.0

@@AvocadoTalk oh so this is 3rd try with a konal in same hole ? Maybe Duke 7 will be the winner and tree prosper .
@AvocadoTalk
@AvocadoTalk 3 ай бұрын
@@RareAvoTrees In this hole I had a Kona that was on unknown rootstock and was weak so I made the decision to pull it instead of wasting time trying to nurse it back to health. This one from Brokaw is on Duke 7 and a winner, in one year it has outgrown a lot of my other trees that have been in the ground longer. My first Kona was in a different spot and I pulled it and replace it with a Lamb.

Commercial growers used to have one B type tree for 10 A type trees.... Turns out it only increased the fruit production by 11% which is you do the math is equal as have a A type instead of a B type.... 1 in 10 pretty much.... And the B type are not the best ones.... *cough*zutanosucks*cough* Instead if you want a bumper crop, spray your flowers with a mix consisting in 1 tea spoon of honey and 2 mugs of hot water (until the honey is blended in) let it cool and spray your flowers and watch the bees swarm the place. Because they dont really care for avo flowers especially if you have citrus nearby..... Just try it at least once and you'll probably have to thin your trees!
@AvocadoTalk
@AvocadoTalk 2 жыл бұрын
I did a lot of honey water last year and I don't think it did anything. I sprayed multiple times with different concentration to see if it helped but I think that at the end of the day, all of the bees wanted was my honey brush and citrus trees. This year might be different since my citrus are not flowering yet and my avocados are starting to flower or in the middle of flowering. I might try it again this year, we'll see. Thanks for watching and sharing!
