My Mom used to make this exact thing when we were little (in Bangladesh)! The only difference is that she used to twist the two ends instead of bringing one end though the loop, and she didn't use ginger. These would taste even better with ginger!

I love to watch you on you tube. I love Korean food but can't eat by mouth nowadays, have to use the feeding tube through the belly but I still keep watching your shows especially the soups ,so I can blend them in the blender and feed myself.i can't taste anything that way but the aroma gets me going. thank you Maangchi. I have seen you in many hairdos and styles but I have to say you look your best in this style, on this video and I know it's more than 10 years ago but I just watched it today since I can't eat cookies.

It is alot of work...but well worth it! It's a hit at parties (its sorta like that slogan, "you can't eat just one" kinda dessert hehe). Filipinos have a similar recipe also (in my family its known as "cascaron"). Everything is almost the same except for the "ribbon"shaping. Instead of the precise rectangle shape, my mom just goes with a diamond shape w/ one slit then fold...then just a plain sugar syrup. Will try adding cinnamon/pinenut and adding ginger juice to the dough next time.

This was really exciting to see because we make traditional cookies for Christmas that are folded the same way :3 All across the world they make something almost the same way! ^-^ I will try to make this, it looks tasty!

Dear Maangchi, I don't think that this is authentically Korean because I see a lot of Chinese and Vietnamese people make this as well with almost exactly the same recipe. I went to China and I found a stall that prepared this. Also on my visit to Vietnam I saw the exact same thing too. Maybe I am wrong, but I think that just like the egg roll many Asian cultures have their way of making things such as this cookie. =)

Looks like a lot of work, but the ribbons do look nice. I'd love to see people like you and VahChef have some shows on Food Network. Unfortunately too much of that channel is about another meat loaf recipe, cakes you can't even eat, or if you've ever seen Sandra Lee, a woman who doesn't really make anything at all except an alcoholic drink for every meal of the day lol. I appreciate your videos and your recipes. Thank you for sharing :)
