100% I thought the British justice system was diabolical with the amount of prison time, even murder. It’s a common joke with people married over many years of marriage to joke “I’d get longer for murder!” But it’s true. Even when they are given a ‘life sentence’ say 20 years (rare!) you know that they are only going to do half. It’s actually surprising when someone is given a life sentence of x amount of time and they have to serve the whole sentence. Unless they are under 16 their legal names are published/available. The Korean justice system seems very lax. America seems to go overboard with some sentences like drugs etc.

Even if its false, the majong game story is a way to show how strong she was in a less gruesome way, because being put through that much torture and surviving as long as she did takes a strong person. I also wish it were true, but even if its not, its at leastna good metaphor for how strong the poor girl was through this horrific torture.

Misogyny plays a huge rule in how both Junko and Yoona were targeted and attacked. The idea that they were not people but simply s*x object and entertainment. Both Japan and Korea have a massive issue with misogyny. You can even see it in the way law enforcement acted or the way the killers mothers defend their sons. Even the laws that protect the killers identities prioritize mens reputation above a girls life. That's why its so important to push for not only more progressive laws but also progressive social change.

I found out about junko's case when i was 12-13 years old and it took me a WHILE to digest what had happened to her. Now after recalling the details ( i actually didn't know that she got wax poured on herself and that her tendons were cut ) i get goosebumps i feel so bad for her that i wanna cry. We women never get peace even after death. Breaks my heart.

Think about the wars in this world, the conflicts in less developed countries and radical ideologies (Fascism in todays India, terrorists in many african countries, ...). Without laws and social norms preventing such horrific violence, there's always a percentage of people who commit such acts. If there are decent social norms and laws, those messed up people might just beat their wife in private (which is obviously horrible in itself), but those laws and norms normally prevent them from actually murdering someone or worse. If the same kind of person lives in a society where violence against certain minorities is accepted, or even respected (fascist or extremist religious ideologies heavily support this part of human nature) those same people would commit the most vile acts without raising an eyebrow. Obviously the monsters in this video did those acts in countries that should be safe. This just shows how safe they felt due to their connections to the mafia. Generally, there is a case to be made that violence is a part of human nature. Like all personality traits the tendency to violence varies a lot from person to person and some people are just naturally evil.

Hey you guys know about the miryang case in korea. It happened in 2004. Three female were gang raped by 44 middle schoolers in a span over one year. No one went to jail. The parents of the rpist blame the gurls. And college didn’t want to accept victims of rpe. But now it is a big thing in korea because a youtuber exposed the predators. Junko endured over a month of torture that destroyed her in every possible way, and STILL managed to win that game of mahjong. I'm sobbing. Actually, like, tears running down my face. And Yuna, that poor child. They could've both gone so far in life. These are by far the worst cases I've ever heard. I'm sick to my stomach. I think I need to lay down and relax because I shouldn't be making myself sob like this over true crime. This is my reminder to you guys: Take care of your mental health and know when a case is too much and you should stop watching. I personally think I shouldn't have watched this far. This case is one of the worst out there. You have had that reaction because you are a normal human being with empathy unlike the perpetrators in this case. You are right to be aware it’s not always good for your mind to consume true crime content if it deeply disturbs you. I personally don’t want to watch cases involving children since having babies. It’s so distressing for me. Some disgusting people exist but I remind myself that most people are good, they do their best and the very bad people just stick out like sore thumb because it is so hard to comprehend. I'm a medical doctor- I can barely fathom the damage setting fireworks off inside your body would cause. Certainly setting them off inside someone's genitals would put the person at risk of having their uterus and colon rupture. Colon contents (feces) would leak into their abdominal cavity (the area that holds your stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, etc). If that injury didn't cause you to bleed to death, you would likely die of sepsis/infection within 2-3 days. (You may get lots of offers but I'd be happy to answer any medical questions you have when you're researching videos!) Thank you for reporting on these devastating stories. Sex trafficking is one of the most horrific crimes that exists, and it occurs in every country- though admittedly this level of sadism is very extreme. I am so sad for the victims...grateful that they could eventually escape it, even in death, because no one should have to experience something like this.

I feel that In Western culture, we have become so desensitized and Blaise when experiencing True crime stories. Crime media is so over saturated in the media, that I feel we have become mechanical and routine when stories of injustice and inhumanity are explicitly. What I feel is directly missing is the medical details, what exactly is occuring in the body what is this human being truly enduring, the hours, the minutes. The body broken and I feel when we can reconnect to that shock and horror we will also connect back to empathy, grief and have that duality of both absolute nihilistic misery that humans are capable of such sadism, but also that saving grace that these jackals were unable to break the victims spirit. That the community was outraged, that decent people still exist. I believe a far deeper look into what is occuring medically would actually help to humanize the victim, and allow the audience to understand the totalality of the event. I base alot of this opinion on my own personal reactions of learning about the medical scientist who studied crucifixion and conducted experiments that really outlined the horrible nature of that execution. Anyhow, I didn't mean to ramble, lol. I think I'll watch some 80s music videos to counter this ponderance on dark subject matter. 😮

I listened to the junko case for the first time about 5 years ago. It haunted me then, I couldn’t sleep or eat, I took a long break from true crime even. I was in disbelief that a person, A TEENAGER, could live through this kind of torture for so long and the depraved, horrific perpetrators are free. Same happened to 16 year old Sylvia Likens. She was tortured and murdered by Gertrude Baniszewski, Gertrude’s children, and several neighborhood friends. Sylvia was tortured for 3 months and they even forced her little sister, Jenny, to participate in her abuse. May Junko’s, Yuna’s, and Sylvia’s souls rest in peace and may all their perpetrators suffer eternally

Everyone, remember one thing well: if the police and/or bystanders had not been lazy and ignorant, then both of these girls would be alive and safe today, they could've stood there in the court, telling the world about the pain they endured. It wouldn't have been so easy for the court to set them free if the victim had been able to stand their and talk about their story. All we can now do is tell their story for them, and not be ignorant like the bystanders in both these cases. If you see a girl who looks uncomfortable or unwell in company of others, assume the worst and help them, even if you helping them is merely handing them a note.

A couple weeks ago I mentioned Junko Furuta under a TikTok comment when they had a TikTok about that, or I think it was why women are afraid to say no to a date or something. Her name holds power. I say that baby girl’s name all the time, when anyone asks why women are a certain way I say her name and tell them to search her up. Usually the response is quiet, or tears, or apologizing to me for not understanding how dangerous it can be to be dragged off by strangers and r***d mercilessly even if you just exist and don’t even “poke the bear.”

One time a guy said girls who take rides from strangers are stupid and to not get in unless there is a woman. To me it was the fact that people had 30 years to reflect on what happened to Junko but then moved on because they gave such short prison sentences. The only thing I can make sense of, is that maybe God wanted to be with them in Heaven, in the most present and loving way he could. Maybe they had important work to do in Heaven, and God needed them. It doesn’t seem like to us back on earth, that they were saved, but I believe they were. At the end of the day, neither you nor I, nor anyone can guarantee we won’t meet a violent end to our flesh. But the soul is more real than the flesh, and nobody can take that away from you. It belongs to God. It can be beaten down and crushed by evil forces, but the soul prevails after physical death, and it goes to a place much greater than anything in this world can offer.

I almost got teary-eyed when I saw this video pop up. I remember how much Junko Furuta case impacted me when I was 13 years old, now I'm 24 and working in a criminal justice system, and I still think about this case a lot and carry it in my heart. I will probably watch this video eventually, because Stephanie and her team always give across so much respect and empathy for the victim. I don't understand it, I don't think I ever want to understand just how twisted people can become to act this way. What was in the air in the 80s in Japan that prompted those boys to act that way? Just a reminder that one of Junko’s tormentors, Hiroshi Miyano, picked on her and targeted her, tortured her, because she rejected his offer to date him. Remember that. What they both went through is horrible, and their perpetrators should have been punished accordingly. The law and the people around them failed them. As a Korean who lived in both Korea and America, Korea is relatively safe in terms of being able to walk around at night and just walking to go from place to place. There's not much organ traffickers like China, no gun like America, no gangs like Mexico. But just like ANY countries, it all depends on the areas in the country you're in. Also its difficult to generalize a whole country's safety level based on some crimes cases because evil people exist everywhere. I would say its a relatively safe country but Id assume its because people have that sort of concept of 'Korea being a safe country' that when you hear about cases like this and stuff like burning sun and nth room, it comes across as even more extreme because it collides with your expectation.

Yeah I think you put it well. It’s the way her name is used for shock value. Because of how shocking her case is, it peaks people’s morbid curiosity and her story and her name gets tossed around. At the end of the day, these videos are mostly for entertainment. Every time there’s another video about her that pops up, it’s like they’re beating a dead horse for content. (Yeah I don’t like this analogy too but it’s precisely what’s happening, because these videos don't really honor her or protect her when you really think about it.) It’s violating. Goodness gracious. The Junko Furata case was the first true crime case that actually made me cry. Usually I can detach or feel anger, but this just made me feel utter hopelessness. Same... I researched the Junko furata case after I saw a picture of those vile monsters that did all that too her and a short description on Tumblr, when I was 15. It was the first true crime case that made me cry and made me truly consider for my only mission in life to be, to train and hunt those monsters down, so that true justice can finally be served and the public is protected from people like them... I always remember all the victims that I have read about, but I think about Junko really often... I'm a spiritual person, I often pray to my spirit guides for Junko's soul, that she's at peace and that the life she lives after being reborn is absolutely beautiful, full of happiness and joy, with no struggles or issues. I pray to them that the perpetrators get their Karma, that they suffer.. even if not in this lifetime, I hope that they are able to remember their past life actions, what they did to Junko and that they experience all the stuff that they did to her. I'm going to start praying for Yuna too from now on... My brain can't comprehend how somebody can be as evil as those monsters, how they can lack humanity so much. I have ASPD, but I would NEVER do anything violent to the innocent. My dad has ASPD too and he used to always say to me growing up "It's our job to protect the innocent". I don't understand how the girls in Yunas Case did nothing, I used to find myself in situations around grown men that were way more unhinged at that age and when I saw them attack a woman one time, I threw myself between them and the woman and I started punching and hitting so the woman could get away... As a member of Generation Z, I didn't experience the atmosphere and news coverage of the time in real time, but that incident is remembered as one of the worst in Japan's criminal history. We are still dealing with the Tsarnaev’s case from 11 years ago when him and his brother committed the stuff in Boston, don’t think I can say the other word so I will just say stuff. I'd like to believe the reason why this case is presented this way is 'cause there's not that much information out there about the victim (not even her real name) and this case is a lot more private than the one that happened in Japan. The part about her playing mahjong seems to be a mistranslation. While I myself cannot read Japanese to confirm, others who can say that one of the boys was frustrated about losing a lot of money in a game of mahjong and taking it out on Junko. The title feels a little bit exploitative to both the victim of this case and to Junko :/ Junko isn't an archetype or a character to make comparisons to, she's a real person who suffered so much, just like the victim of this case, she's not "the korean Junko", she's her own person, what happened to her shouldn't rob her of her identity and personhood. I mean to be fair. 1. Yoona's case actually is known as the "junko furuta". Stephanie is not the first person to cover it. She just so happens to be the one with the biggest platform. 2. It is very very important to remember that you tube is still a business and a lot of big youtubers like Stephanie have people to pay. Titles meant to draw people in is a huge part of what gets income in. 3. Let be realistic. A LOT of true crime watchers, watch true crime as means to de-stress, help keep their minds busy whilst doing their household chores, eating, make up and so many other things. In some way, many of us as consumers are already indirect partcipants in the exploitation of true crime.

I really did not like this format. Making Junko’s case SO prevalent to Yuna’s own story felt like it just kinda trivialized her situation and detracted from how bad her case was, too. I think briefly touching on these cases similarities would have been much better and then loop back to the way that the police/justice system failings remain an issue.

If Junko’s perpetrators had been punished in a way that set a permanent example to the world, this case wouldn’t have happened. They were given such ridiculous sentences and got away with one of the most heinous crimes known to man.
