Highkey got sad when Ollie said he isn't smart. I actually always find his questions and insights incredibly interesting and clever when he speaks in english and is comfortable with it. But him being slow at picking up a language doesn't mean he isn't smart. I understand he must be really frustrated but I wish he didn't feel that way. He's genuinely so intelligent and I'm not just saying that to be nice.

Agreed. Also to be honest, Ollie being "bad" at Korean doesn't even necessarily mean that he's bad at learning languages (or at learning Korean). He's just in a rather unique and, in my opinion, pretty difficult position of having heard loads of Korean words and not learning them in a structured way. This also probably makes most "lessons" boring to him, because he feels that he already knows it. I don't know how, or if he learns Korean outside of the "Jolly Korean lessons". "Learns" like in sits down with a book or a notebook and practices creating sentences. I feel like half of the "I'm bad at Korean" thing originates from a learning method that doesn't suit his natural learning style, or him not giving it enough attention.

I've started studying to work with learning disabilities and it's really sad because Dyslexia is a symptom of an actually highly creative and high functioning brain. It's very sad to me that dyslexic people often think they are stupid because the first thing they had to learn was more difficult for them than for anyone else, when they are usually actually smarter than people who can learn to read faster. They are thought of and therefore think of themselves as slow or stupid, while literally being brilliant. Ollie is such a great case cause he takes it lightly and makes fun of himself and gets back up. He really does seem brilliant, not to mention insanely creative. He has these crazy ideas and then makes them happen when most people would just laugh it off and move on to something easier.

Honestly i never understood why ppl say Ollie is so ‘hard to teach’. This guy never lived in Korea, or have any direct ties to a Korean. Korean people here are pointing out that this is quite disturbing as it seems like a bullying to some extent (Koreans are always aware of such problems) because even for Koreans it is just impossible for to move around with only 3 dollars. Plus, yes Josh has sent him out with some Korean staffs but those Korean staffs encouraged him to sell some of his belongings like some beggers... Selling stuffs at the station is technically illegal and when theres a camera of famous youtuber in front of them, Korean people find it difficult to refuse them.

@@cassyng7919 you guys are making Josh a bit of a bad guy here, Josh didn't know what would happen, had he known that Ollie might resort to selling stuff, he definitely wont let him go, and as some people mentioned in the Video there are other alternatives going to Jeonju and thats by bus which i`m guessing is a lot cheaper than the train ride, so in a way, Ollie`s money is enough to get to Jeonju, and he only did this out of his trust to Ollie, theres no ill intent involved

i know this was posted forever ago but i hate how much josh pushes ollie down when it comes to korean. his progress during this trip is insane and the fact that ollie literally said ‘im stupid’ multiple times is so upsetting. josh was out living it up, eating whatever he wanted and driving a luxury car and he just told rosemary that they have to ‘figure it out’ even though ollie is getting upset and she was very obviously worried? every person in this series other than eric get upset and frustrated with ollie even though hes never NEEDED to speak korean his whole life and yet every native korean were super patient and understanding of the fact that he’s new. even when ollie is getting a little confused, josh stepping in and apologizing (other than when ollie is accidentally rude) is unnecessary. just look at how much progress ollie made in a couple of hours just asking people where to eat; that should show how smart he is and that he has learned a ton. watching ollie speak korean helps so many beginners because they are most likely making the same mistakes. most of the people who are already fluent in korean as a second language some how forgot that they were also in ollies position at one point. just because ollie wasnt studying 24/7 for 2 years doesnt mean he has no idea what he’s saying.

really good points, glad to hear some raw truth. To be fair it must also be said, that maybe one reason that Josh was hard on Ollie is because he knows how smart Ollie can be. I think perhaps some people are also a bit intimidated by Ollie. Because he is such an honest and open person, and genuinely warm, whereas many people in the world and fake and lie often. Lying is easy, but being honest and authentic with others only takes a little more effort, and gives much more meaning to life and those you interact with.

i’m rewatching this and honestly when ollie tells the driver that he’s not smart and that he’s studied a lot but he’s not good, that part hits me the hardest because i relate. i’ve been studying for so long and i’m lucky to have very supportive friends who help me, but if i had friends constantly calling me an idiot i would probably be very discouraged if i’m being honest. i am in no way trying to analyze their friendship or telling them how to live their lives, it is just my perspective
