I've learned this from recent videos like this one: even an imperfect synth (or any other audio source) sounds amazing through a high quality reverb. Going to install the Valhalla Super Massive VST today. It appears to be FREE!

i absolutely love this synth for medieval /gothic / Tolkien tones. Easy and fun to learn synthesis. Add a vintage processor like the MPX 100 and fire up the lava lamps. run the sequencer and sweep through the cutoff filter. perfect for long journeys as a music bed.

Korg made some underrated gems in the mid eighties. DW6000/8000 and the Poly 800/61. All 4 great machines.

I've had a poly 800. it's about as close to not being a synth as you can get. it doesn't sound that great, has ridiculously limited features and has flimsy, crappy build quality on top of all that. of course I understand they were trying to hit a price point.

this keyboard was a dream of mine as a kid, never got it though, I found one at a flea market and bought it but when I got home to test it it didn't work, crushed dreams, so I took it back and got my $60 bucks back.

Did you change the CMOS battery on board? I bought one and it powered on but didn't make any sounds, I replaced the battery on the board, used a video on youtube with an aux cable and reloaded factory sounds and it worked perfect.

"Stranger Things" made me dig mine out the closet. Just a new power cord and I was good to go. I used patch 42 a lot. One of my songs in the studio with my band used it. There's. A "Jump" sound on it too. At least close anyway
@NinoJoel5 жыл бұрын
Do yourselve a favor and replace the internal memory bank battery..... Everything might work fine but in reality the leaking battery destroys the PCB inside the Korg and some day you will find it not working without any chance to fix it.
@markushutto40175 жыл бұрын

hi mate. i bought a sub37 with a bigsky some weeks ago. as i was looking for a cheap analog poly as well, your video totally convinced me of buying a poly 800. which i just did for 200 euros :) thanks for the vid. think i will also buy the modification which adds knobs to the korg. i really dont like korg nowadays, but this little 80's machine is very tasty for the money. syncing arps / seq's to a daw's tempo works fine i guess?
@mylesofkeys24966 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear that and thanks!! The lack of knobs/ sliders is the only real downside of the synth for me. Killer deal otherwise; I'm sure you'll love it. I haven't really played with its sequencer for recording but I'm sure it could sync like any other. Post a video if you can! Analog Korg is where its at :)

defo not the original, i had to change the battery in mine and loaded the sounds back in from a cd player. took ages to get it right,, you have to time it perfect on the load switch.. Maybe bang those patches up @Myles of Keys....

i need a KORG 9V AC adapter rated at 300 mA ? need help......
@mylesofkeys24965 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it has to be a Korg adapter. Mine didn't come with one but the adapter off my MS2000 works with the Poly 800 just fine.
@newignis3 жыл бұрын
It does not need to be Korg specific: every adapter with the same voltage on the pins having at least 300mA will do.

on the first patch, is that octave up on the 2nd DCO or the big sky?
@mylesofkeys24966 жыл бұрын
It's on the DCO, but the big sky really enhances it.
@seth47666 жыл бұрын
ah ok cool. so there's no like shimmer or pitching up aspect of the verb? just bought an 800, I am so excited =) I've got a few different verbs (no big sky alas) so just wondering. amazing patches btw.
@mylesofkeys24966 жыл бұрын
The BigSky can pitch up/down at pretty much any interval and shimmer, but on this video, I believe I just used the "bloom" setting with a higher brightness. Also used a volume boost on that setting, which acts a little bit like a compressor and adds to that glassy sustain. Congrats on the 800! It sounds great with any reverb, even basic GarageBand presets. I'd highly recommend the BigSky down the road because I've used that thing for drums, piano, guitar, and even tenor sax -- super fun possibilities!

And stilll no velocity
@newignis3 жыл бұрын
Not at the time it came out, no. But you can modify it nowadays so it listens to external velocity via MIDI. Be aware: at the time it came out, ŵe could only dream of velocity sensitive synths. They were way too expensive.
