You both are the average american that eats everything the media gives you, believes in anything that one can say, without confirming the sources of the information. It is moronic from you, specially you Jimmy Bean, if you are american, you should know that IN AMERICA homicides can be pointed FROM CIRCUNSTANCIAL PROOFS....in America!!!! This proves that, altough I'm not american, it seems that I know better than you... +Wier Do That's a point but they both said several times they were naive, they were just youngsters enjoying their music and the fame, the pressure was all on Kurt. I remember reading or hearing somewhere that Krist was all "wooow" when he read something incorrect or wrong about him and Kurt was like "yeah...if you read all they write about ME, you'll know what is to be underpressure". I'm saying this because Krist and Dave were so young and far from notice anything wrong, SUICIDE or NOT, MURDER or NOT. If we read and get all the facts from the right sources, not the "hearsay" or gossips on pink magazines, you will realize that everything will point to murder. See "Soaked in Bleach" , with testemony of many specialists in many areas of investigation and check what they say about this case. I don't believe "Montage of Heck" has any cientific explanation for the suicide theory, since they put out of the context many documented stuff about Kurt Cobain.

No doubt. The friendship was important but his bass technique & the way he setup his amp & effects loop were even more essential to how Nirvana sounded. You can tell a Nirvana song just by his bass. I hate how low his bass was mixed on In Utero, Steve Albini screwed the pooch on that one!

The irony is that Cobain himself admitted his lyrics were just stream of consciousness gibberish that he would sometimes have to throw together the night before a recording session. The idea that Nirvana "spoke for a generation" is delusional mythology. Kurt was terminally lost. He had no direction to give and had nothing to share with the world other than the howls of his own personal pain.

That's EXACTLY what I've thought as well, ever since I first saw an interview with a (then-)present day Krist back in 2003. ***** oh no of course, I get that. Krist and Kurt were the founders of Nirvana, Krist knew Kurt twice as long as he Dave did. But to lose somebody in such a tragic way would still have a devastating effect on somebody. As you said, not taking anything away from Dave but Krist doesn't seem to have a fragment of comfort as Dave has. I wonder if its because Dave has continued with music. Perhaps that has taken his mind off things more.

So much anger and hostility in the comments section. Have you no respect? Krist is sharing deeply personal and touching memories and thoughts about a friend lost far too soon. Such snide comments - do you realize how hard it is to open up about a loss that profound? Nirvana was huge before Kurt's death, as was Hendrix, Jim Morrison. His death was a tragedy - like the others, he was a voice of a generation. I can name songs from many artists living and dead with LESS complexity than the "typical" Nirvana song, and yet they are considered timeless classics showcasing musical genius. The man could play pretty, if that had been what he was trying to express. Heck, I can play most scales at fairly blistering speeds, but I stumble when it comes to a real song. I still can't quite nail down "About a Girl." We see him through the lens of fame. Krist sees Kurt as a friend that he grew up with, shared both good times and bad, and lost from an event sudden and terrible. Thank you, Mr. Novoselic, for sharing a side of a man that changed the course of history, that has grown to be something of myth. You remind us that Kurt was human, like the rest of us. I would rather Kurt be alive today and faded into obscurity than to see such pain in a man's eyes. I've lost friends too - I think most of us have. Imagine for just one second. What if Kurt Cobain had been YOUR best friend?

They judge out of sheer, unadulterated jealousy. It's as simple as that. Kurt's music was so innovative at the time of it's release that Nirvana basically became an overnight sensation. Kurt's ability for writing lyrics gained him the title as one of the greatest lyricist of ALL time, but it wasn't all about that. Kurt had the ability to reach others through common grounds. He sang about what we all felt at that point in time in our lives and unlike bands nowadays, Nirvana was truly genuine. Nirvana always displayed that pure 90's essence live on stage, and truth be told, no other band around sounds as good as Nirvana did live. Unlike bands these days, all Nirvana had to do to gain attention was show up on stage and perform. What's so damn unique about "musicians" from these days? Will Beiber run into another sliding door? Will Gaga show up in a dress made from road kill? Will Imagine Dragons pretend to be more hardcore than what the little pansies really are? What a sad, sad lineup of musicians.

Geoffrey P. So it is true. Suicide is a selfish act. Maybe choosing to live in order to save others from the pain of losing you is the best reason to continue living. It may be a fact that depression is perhaps long, but it is a temporary condition. Death is forever. Stopping to consider the pain you will inflict on your loved ones shows empathy. It is truly sad and unfortunate that depression causes such selfishness. To deprive your loved ones of your presence in their lives forever without even asking their opinion shows the lengths to which depression takes control of the functioning of the brain and the depths to which that despair drives the sufferer, clouding judgement, empathy and reason. Is there art in depression influenced music? Or is it just an expression of profound sadness? Why do people not pay the requisite attention to this factor in the lives of those close to them?

Kurt's music and death had a profound effect on my life. Nevermind was the first CD I ever owned and they were the first band I ever saw live. Punk rock and rock n roll in general and that culture have been such a driving force in my life that gave me such passion and amazing times and led me to who I am and the relationships I have with people. I really have no idea who or where I would be now if not for that spark Kurt Cobain ignited all those years ago. It's crazy now that I'm older than he ever was and I can see him as the young man that he was. We all were young and naive once, and in some ways we always will be. He should still be here.

Hearing Krist and Dave talk about Kurt is so gut wrenching, we have no idea how bad it was for them, even if at the time those guys weren't seeing eye to eye, they were his friends, and Its known that Kurt suffered from mental illness. We have come a long way in cross treatment of addiction and depression since 94, what's done is done but if only Kurt could have saved himself, cuz let's be real,NOBODY can force you to stop if you are a drug addict, nothing can save you but your own will to realize you have to get help before it is too late, but especially heroin(I am 4 months sober, believe me its tougher than a lot of folks think, even with medication)adding dope to the fire of depression is combustible. Now the facts about him at the time are so skewed, and I am not gonna go into that, but his death was a waste of such a beautiful person, regardless of if he had never played again, I always wished he had stayed alive because as the saying goes "Suicide is a permanent solution, to a temporary problem" We miss you Kurt, and I am sure there isn't a day that goes by where your boys Dave and Krist and Pat dont wish you were here and think of you, Kirst especially, who knew Kurt since high school and probably saw his best friend going thru all this shit due to the limelight and it seems, in my opinion he felt like he lost a part of himself when Kurt died, and may even feel like he saw it coming and could do nothing because when a guy like Kurt sets his mind on something, well...look how far his ambition took Nirvana sorry for rambling guys and gals, Much love Krist and Dave. We all miss you Kurt #Nirvana4ever

Of course Kurt would act differently around his buddies. Thats how most guys are. Many suicidal people try to put up a front. The members of Joy Division said the same thing about Ian Curtis, that he wasn't "depressed" or a "tortured soul" around them, he was just their good mate and a normal dude at the pub. If kurt was still alive and if nirvana went further I think Kurt would have been the next John lennon.

Maybe. But we also have this idea that the ONLY REAL emotion that a depression-prone person experiences is pain. Similar to the suffering artist thing. 'ONLY pain is what's truly real--anything else must be a front'. Not necessarily. Kurt could easily have still had fun hanging with Krist and Dave - and really enjoyed it. I doubt it was ALL 'just a show'. A diversion maybe - levity - but that could have been just as real to him as the tougher times.

I feel sad for Krist because you can see the huge effect that Kurt's death has had on him and still has on him to this day. Then he debunks the myth that Kurt was confused and tortured by telling us that he was very funny and creative, that that was his natural state generally. Kurt's death was a massive shock, he had a unique way of analysing the world through his songs, and his singing and playing were so effective. I think he is one of the great rock singers right up there with John Lennon. Like Krist, I wish he were still here because you just know he would be doing something creative and it would be great to see what those missing years would bring.

Krist is the most amazing man. I can feel his pain. I have spent so much time watching their concerts (and interviews). Krist was always "into" it. He loved what he was doing. He loved the music. He was always kind and respectful to the audience. And, he loved Kurt. I will never forget how he jumped to defend Kurt at the Trees concert. Dave jumped out too, but Krist was the one who put his hand on the bouncer and tried to subdue him (and he also offered his shirt to him). I know in my heart, he would always defend his dear friend (even if he seemed annoyed with him in that same video! :) ). I have grown to love this man... his heart, his soul, his beauty, his intellect, his devotion, his talent. My heart breaks for what he has gone through seeing his dear friend die in such a way.

The thing about the pawnshop guitars really stuck a chord (no pun intended) with me. For months after my best friend/drummer of my band died I would see concerts and start compiling a mental list of awesome stuff to tell him later before I remembered I wouldn't be able to. Also getting a new guitar I really like is key to me coming up with new songs too, I love hearing that Kurt was the same way.

My friend blew his head off with a shot gun also. When the shotgun went off it blew across the room and hit the wall then fell. I dont believe Kurt killed himself after seeing that shotgun laying on his chest.

I'm taking note of that but what really settled it for me is how the bassist of Courtney's band died shortly after Kurt. it doesn't seem significative but let's say she had an affair with Kurt...

@@Vinc34U ok but like why would she have an affair with kurt? Kurt loved courtney? Right?

The shot gun was also loaded with birdshot shells or something similar that don't cause near as much damage.

Not an affair they were serious friends though, no budding romance yet, but genuine care and friendship for each other...

Kurt was a fucking genius. He was one of those artists who appear once in fifty years or more. His death has been a huge loss for rock music, I feel we have the need of someone like him in the music industry, just to maintain a certain integrity, that kind of rawness and honesty that should be rock music. Unfortunately, their enormous success has been their benediction and their hell at the same time. The guy was way too honest and cynical to be part of the mainstream circus like one of the many clowns we see these days. May god forgive him for the way he ended his life (if that is considered to be a sin or whatever...) and blesses his soul forever, he gave something pure and immortal to us on this little fucked up planet. Such a great great artist. Also props to Krist and Dave for having been the perfect companions of the Nirvana journey.

Krist was the big brother to Kurt and loved him very much. All the way to the end after he took Kurt t.o his last ditch help for rehab. Kurt retaliated in a extremely hostile way, and screamed "Fuck you!". Krist was completely distraught and tearfully knew he wouldn't see Kurt again. He was right.
