I had a friend who was targeted with an egg while driving. She was studying to be a surgical doctor in med school. She lost her vision in that eye for quite some time before it partially healed. Now she can't become a doctor and do what she wanted to do. They never found the person. One act can ruin a person's life.

People that do things like this give paintball a bad name. shooting a gumball is little different than shooting a rock at someone. even if it was actual paintballs, if it happens to hit someone in the eye you will probably lose the eye. a gumball hitting you in the eye you'll definitely lose the eye and possibly part of your brain behind it, even at only 280 feet per second, paintballs and gumballs pack a lot of force. paintballs are designed to break on impact, gumballs are not. the reason paintballs that don't break hurt more than paintballs that break on impact is the breaking helps dissipate the force. using gumballs that do not break apart as easily on impact as opposed to paintballs is a sure sign whoever is doing this WANTS to hurt people... Whoever is doing it needs to be caught before they permanently injure someone or worse. Deaths from paintballs are extremely rare but they do happen, usually from violating the safety rules, which this person is obviously not following. Using gumballs raises the chances of a hit possibly being fatal.

Got a question. So this "gum ball". Is this a special paintball ammo with a funny name? Or is it literally like chewing gum balls? And if it is, how and what is being used to shoot these with such accuracy, from what I assume long range? Because nobody is able to see who's shooting them. That tells me this is being shot from long range. And if so, and the shooter's able to hit the target with such accuracy, it's GOT TO BE some sort of a gun, not a sling shot. You have any insight?

@@SlimJim-bw3ib not a special type of ammunition... just regular gumballs you buy to chew on. it just happens to be similar in size to an actual paintball. shooting gumballs won't be as accurate as shooting paintballs because they're not exactly the same size yet still fit in the barrel. gumballs probably allow more air to force itself around and past it as it travels down the barrel, that can make the ball less accurate. gumballs not being as smooth will also reduce accuracy. The paintball gun itself, depending on who makes it and if it has a competition barrel both affect accuracy. Modern paintball guns tend to be fairly accurate to 150 or so feet shooting paintballs. Put a competition barrel on it and that range can be extended a little bit further. Someone with a lot of experience with their paintball gun, it becomes like an extension of you, which can also add accuracy.

I think they do this to raise awareness and get anyone else that has been a victim to come forward. The more data they have the better they can target search. On the other hand, as you point out, I recall when a national news show carried a story about carjacking and it suddenly exploded everywhere nationwide. So not sure what the best way to approach these things is.

I mean, sniping isn't exclusively a projectile weapon form of assault. The original term comes from a bird with a long, penetrating beak that was pinpoint accutate. Think like a rapier constantly hitting the exact same target point.
