I think Cornette said repeatedly that Shawn was really insecure. This seems in line with that. But that said, perhaps this means less than it seems. Kurt said recently that it was Shawn that came to him before the WM match and told him he wants Kurt to win by tapping Shawn out to make him look strong for a feud with Batista. This was a major WM match, between two of the best ever, so the result of this match meant a lot too. Both had their fair share of great moments prior to this match I'd say, so it was actually pretty big of Shawn to go and do this.

Not really. It's a relatively tame way of telling a bully or asshole that they can clean up their act before something happens. What bullies want is a reaction and for other people to be bothered by their stupid antics, which the bully wants to explain to himself as him being superior to people who want no part of his ineptitude. Telling them that you're not afraid of them lets them know that you disapprove of their actions and avoiding them does not mean that you are incapable of handling them but just disgusted and have better things to do so they can as well stop being cringy and if they don't then stiffer measures may be introduced.

This was in the middle of Shawn's redemption song. He might've felt a little guilty about his past and at this point was putting over the newer guys, something the old him wouldn't dream of doing, particularly at a WM. A new hungry guy with the skill level and tenacity of Angle would understandably have something to prove to someone with HBK's reputation, and Shawn might've sensed that. Hearing Angle's side of this story, it makes much more sense why Shawn would say that. Shit, he might have saw the ghost of Bret Hart for all we know.

Like any other HBK story (Taker at WM14, Montreal screwjob, etc) there's always holes in his side of the story, mostly because he doesn't know why ppl look at him crazy for the crazy shit he says/does. From Angle's perspective, this is just another day at the office. He didn't kiss HBK's ass like everyone else. Kurt and Shawn had a weird timeline prior to this. Like Shawn was the biggest star in the WWE for years and right when he left, Kurt Angle became a big star for years. And then for 3 years, they were doing their own thing on 2 separate shows. (Kurt on SD, HBK on RAW) I kinda get why HBK said that to Kurt cause it's two of the greatest in the business that never seen eye-to-eye before that Wrestlemania.
@immortallegacy1003 жыл бұрын
I think a bit of context for Shawn's comments is necessary because he was legitimately intimidated by Kurt Angle's work rate and wasn't sure if he could keep up. He mentions in his book and DVD that he trained extra hard so as not to disappoint fans and also so that he wouldn't be outclassed by Angle. Shawn Michaels is one of the greatest of all-time and views himself as one of the greatest of all-time, but Kurt Angle was one of the few guys who he felt he had to train extra hard for. I doubt Angle or Conrad are reading this comment, but if they are I would recommend hearing what Michaels had to say about the match and Angle. Sounds to me like his comments are a testament to just how good Michaels thought Angle was in 2005. Also, Angle intentionally or not is an intimidating guy, and for someone who's only interaction with him was basically a dismissal, I can see Michaels having a chip on his shoulder. That's what made both guys so good in my opinion.

@@AjayPatel-so8zs I'm not going by hearsay by internet "smarks". I'm going by Shawn Michaels' own words in his DVD and/or book. If we're going to listen to Kurt then it's own fair to hear what Shawn had to say a decade ago about the match. Also, Kurt has a habit of stretching the truth a bit just like all wrestlers, but the difference in what he had to say in his RF Video shoot interview a decade ago compared to now is proof in my mind that Kurt is more interested in telling a good story and putting himself over, which shouldn't be surprising.

I think HBK just was trying to get Angle prepped up for their match. He even has admitted himself that Kurt Angle was the first wrestlers whose skills intimidated him a little bit.

I love Kurt. really do, but the Puder thing was inexcusable on Kurt's part and Puder had him. plain and simple. Puder got the shaft. Vince was clearly gonna pick a side. he did. if I had to choose one of the two to back up I probably would've gone with Kurt. not because Puder was in the wrong, but who have I spent the most time and money on and who has the better chance to make the most money with in the future? its Kurt.

@@chrismorgan8330 That wasn't the point at all. The point was to try and prove that those kids were not "Tough Enough" to handle the pro-wrestling ring. They thought that putting a legitimate-shooter out there (Kurt Angle) that he could make them look bad. Well, it backfired because Daniel Puder was a legitimate Mixed Martial-Artist and while he may not have know much or anything about the style of pro-wrestling, he certainly wasn't a punk and he proved that. The whole idea was just brick-stupid. You had the Big Show out there throwing working-chops that no one was selling. One guy was even laughing.
