Welcome welcome welcome to the chapter 254 review & analysis, in this chapter we have Kusakabe vs Sukuna and I’ve got to say straight up, the chapter is absolutely fire. I really enjoyed the battle for what it was and how it communicates to us that through a lot of Kusakabe’s actions and the decisions he makes; he isn’t as lazy or as selfish as it seems. Not only this, but the fight choreography is absolutely great. A desperate struggle against an overwhelming enemy always slaps in anime, especially if the character who’s in the struggle has a great heart and is doing it for a purpose that lies much beyond himself. With that said, I’ll gonna break down Kusakabe’s character and this fight heavy, not only this; but why I think Miguel appearing at the end is a good sign for this series. Honestly, Kusakabe went out like he should. He`s not strong enough to give Sukuna a run for his money, but he damn well tried for the people he loved. Ties in with his character very well and was just great to see.

What is satisfying is not watching the same thing happen week by week. A new character gets hyped up to face sukuna, they end up pulling off something insane, sukuna isn't phased and wasn't even trying, sukuna kills/defeats them, repeat. I don't think people have an issue with waiting each week, but the payoff isn't worth it.

There’s a moon light sword in almost every fromsoft game. Going back to Kingsfield 1 Edit to add some context; it looks different in most games. Usually taking the form of a greatsword. The Katana versions of it is in Elden Ring, the Moonveil Blade

Beneath all the whiney bad faith nonsense, this chapter actually turned out very good. We got fulfilled conclusion to Kusakabe’s character, more developing of the power system and direct connection to the JJK world building with a foreigner. It kind of shows there is indeed a payoff coming to this gauntlet and the major purpose of it is to contrast Sukuna with these characters, which is how Akutami uses Sukuna who is a static character like villains tend to be, for character development for supporting guys. Yes, there seems to be a formula, but I think what’s actually occurring feels pretty different each time. Hating on JJK is just becoming the popular TikTok fan cause du jour.

It doesn't matter at this point if Miguel is special grade or not. Their biggest hitters have continually gotten clapped (Gojo, Yuta, Yuji, Maki) The B listers have been memed Ino / Higuruma / Choso Double Donut holes. Uraume continues the glazing saying Sukuna isn't even trying and hasn't used Black Box / Fuga. Also his other weapon Hiten hasn't popped up but has been shown throughout the series in flashbacks. Geges writing past the Gojo fight has been, sorcerer shows up shows off some moves Sukuna isn't even trying and bodies them. Repeat. It's trash We don't need to be reminded weekly Sukuna is the strongest. With his Domain expansion on the way back no one has been shown to have anywhere close to the same refinement save for Gojo.

The pacing feels a bit stale right now, but on the re-read in the volume releases it will feel a lot better. The whole point of this is not just about how stronger Sukuna is, but the will of the sorcerers in defeating him. THIS is the f-ing "eternal battle against curses" in the name of the series. Just like how Sukuna beat everyone in the Heian Era, he is doing it once again in the modern era. Sukuna's philosophy is that getting together with others makes you weak. He is being fought by a bunch of weaklings who got together and are slowly, but surely, shaving off his powers. He may have a lot in the tank, but as it stands we only have Kashimo and Gojo "confirmed" dead (they are confirmed for all intents and purposes, but there is still the possibility of some shenanigans). Higuruma is a 50/50. Everyone else is very much alive and will soon be ready for a second round. Meanwhile, Sukuna lost the 10-S, lost his cursed tool (we have no idea if the other one will show up, but at this point I doubt it unless it's part of the CT), his output and CE total is slowly going down, he lost his heart and RCT is slowing down. The black flash may have pumped it up a bit, but the fact that he hit a blackflash already shows he is slowly being put on his back foot. Sukuna may not be giving his all, but that's good for the heroes. By the time he feels the pressure, he won't be in a position to answer with his full power.

I think Kusakabe, Principle Yaga and Utahime are the perfect representation of what an author can achieve with minor characters that have no inherent specialty that makes them crazy exceptional. They're all just pretty standard people in proportion to the monsters in their world who have one or two unique traits about them that they use to help as much as they can. They ARE what most of us should strive to be. People perfecfly happy with what they currently have.

The story is ass, just enjoy the madness and the memes. There's no point in trying to convince people, who still enjoy the series for other reasons I mentioned, to drop it. Let them be lmao. But on the other hand I don't get all people who try to get all philosophical with Gege's nunerous writing errors and go "nah, you just don't get it, etc...". Like, Gege himself showed nurmerous times that he has no attachment to the characters or takes the story serious, why should I ? 😂 I just think both parties should just learn to get off each others back and enjoy the shit show. @numbermumber7382 1. Yuta ends up at the airport. Meets gojo who is headed South for warmer climates or an end to the supposed Nirvana because he feels he did enough for his students to win. Now if we compare Gojo to Buddha and the concept of Samsara then he is headed to the afterlife thinking he is fulfilled. Seeing Yuta and now knowing that he did enough to slow Sukuna but for his kids to lose means coming back. Is he Gojo the strongest because of the six eyes or is he the strongest because he is Gojo. Gojo tells Yuta to dry his tears and that he will never cry with those eyes again. Yuta is supposedly a member of the Gojo family tree and only one six eyes user at a time can exist so guess who comes back with the 6 eyes? Yuta. Also gojo tells him where he hid the isoH or 2. Gojo comes back because he realizes it takes a village and he did leave high schoolers to fight the GOAT sorcerer smh. He returns without the 6 eyes but with the knowledge that in order to be Gojo and not just a vessel of the 6 eyes he must go forth without it. 3. Sukuna has hit the black flash so his energy is returning to full power. He is still inside of Megumis body even though he is in his Heian Era evolution. Now while Sukuna has possessed Megumi sees all and such that Sukuna has done. Keep that in mind. Also during the Gojo fight Megumi has been hit with infinity so why is he not a drooling cabbage? He responds to Yuji right? Overtime he has been healing and he has been observing what Sukuna thinks and does during this time. Sukuna has subjugated the shadows and used their powers(while in Megumiform). Megumi is a prodigy and Mr potential so he's been learning from Sukuna but since Mahoraga adapted to infinity guess what? Megumi has been learning all information in the universe from the multiple limitless hits. Sukuna is actually repairing the damage done to his body. Now with that in mind do you remember Geto fighting back against Kenjaku? Something will cause Megumi to wake up. Whether it be another character being beat down(remember he hates bullies) or something and we could see Megumi complete Chimera Garden using Sukunas perfected form or even fusing his soul into a Megumi 10 shadows amalgamation with an internal domain clash(see what he did to Dagon).. His Chimera garden is perfect now from the limitless info and Sukuna already showing Megumis body using the water cannon against Gojo plus Sukuna at max power. Megumi with the powers of all the shikigami would be amazing. 4. Yuji is actually the first "death womb painting " except there's a twist. He's Sukunas triplet and Sukunas mom was Tengens twin. She chose life with a human. Sukunas mom had triplets in the womb. Sukuna absorbed the other brother but felt Yuji was weak or Yuji was born "dead"/discarded. This would explain the runt or knowing that face. We are pretty sure that Kenjaku was around at this point so he takes Yuji and studies him because of his love of science. There's something about this once. Over centuries Kenjaku tries to figure out a way to bring this creature to life(now we have the Cursed womb painting brothers). Technically since yuji hadnt grown up until Kenjaku have birth he is the youngest. The combination of the blood clan techniques and gravity were used to create this superhuman. If the gravity gene was internalized and a clan technique then it could explain Yujis feats. It could explain the power to release black flash easily if his body has been using internalized gravity powers. It would grant durability and strength potentially. Yujis power with the soul is from his original mom(Tengens sister and remember how they need to merge with the Star Plasma vessel? It's a power related to their family line). 5. All of this results in the final fight in which they beat down Sukuna(he might merge with Urame or posses the Tengen nugget since they are related) and since Megumi is in charge of the merger(named specifically) sukuna can't call it in. Yuji obtains Nirvana and can rest knowing his friends and now wiser teacher Gojo can go forth and seek to live. Ok I'm done. 😆

I know people clown on megumi a lot but there's just no way that Gege would leave Yuji's Sasuke (aka the deuteragonist) rotting to death like that. - Sukuna's merger doesn't work as intended and he's getting consumed instead as its vessel. - Some/one of the defeated fighters get healed and reveal new info possibly pertaining to sukuna's weakness as they fought him, giving the good guys an even chance to win. Honestly there's still plenty of things that they can do. As long as everyone is not definitely confirmed dead and Gege not leaving like only one fighter left that can take sukuna on then the good guys can always come back and try again. Or they can also bring in reinforcements from outside, like Miguel. Him showing up is almost definitely a good sign since that means Gege is capable and/or willing to use anyone and everyone of his characters that he has established in his own verse in order to take down the big bad guy. Many other series suffer from main character syndrome, i.e. the main character always gets the spotlight 90% of the time leaving no spot for any side character to shine/appear. Not in JJK. Here in this manga most of the characters will be given an adequate amount of spotlight before the end story reaches its conclusion. This continuous, running gauntlet with sukuna is just one such way to bring those characters into the fray. So really, all we need to do is be patient and let Gege do his own thing. We can definitely expect Gege to deliver after giving us such a huge build up in the final conflict. If he fails to do that... well, we can always criticize him (in civilized manner) when this manga ends. But not now. Now is the time to let Gege cook.

I really expected sukuna to have launched his domain allready. As kusakabes whole stick is speciality in a technique that nullifies domains alongside being super smart. Haveing sukuna launch his domain while kusakabe tanks it forceing sukuna to use it for eons burning sukunas domain out. seems like what his role in this fight should have been for me. We know activateing it to many times frys the brain from the gojo vs sukuna fight so keeping active for prolonged periods of time also should have a similar affect.

To be real, even Gojo acknowledged him in Zero. He said that guy is gonna be a pain. Not that he wasn’t stronger, we clearly know Gojo was stronger, but we can assume that he’s prolly 5-4th strongest good guy. Assuming Gojo 1, yuta 2, yuki tsukumo, then him or hakari. I’d also go on to say, he lasted 10 mins against Gojo. He survived a fight against that man, then was recruited to teach Yuta. It’s actually great to see him here. It’s a curve ball, which people hate cause everyone wants to be right in their prediction, but also, it allows us insight into understanding WHY Gojo trusted him with training yuta specifically. Maybe he gets 1 chaptered, or 2 chaptered, but it’ll be good insight and hopefully leads us closer to sukunas technique. Every character so far has shown 1 aspect of Sukuna, let’s see where Miguel goes

Miguel could - although that's just my cr*ckhead theory - also serve as somebody who drops somebody, who reminds Megumi that it isn't worth giving up. I mean, they put some barriers around Japan in the Heian Era to "focus" Cursed Energy there. Cursed Energy is generated by negative Emotions. Africa went through alot and it was earlier hinted that there are "Sorccerers" all around the globe. So, if the CE output all around the globe - except for Japan - is serverly "debuffed" ... Imagine what suffering generates their CE on the Level of Miguel & Co. Also, his special African Stuff was already a surprise to Gojo - Sukuna was always a guy who knew stuff a. from Megumi & Co but more importantly b. from his intensive studies back in the Heian Era in which the whole Jujutsu Stuff was at his peak. Now we will see how fast he actually can get a grip on stuff he doesn't previously already knew ... And the Shadow Style already gave us a hint towards that. He was actually surprised and won the fight primarly because he overpowered Kusakabe. Not because he could exploit some weakness. Which, by the way, also proves that Sukuna would've been in serious troubles against Gojo without 10 Shadow Style. I don't think that Miguel takes a W against Sukuna, but he could serve as a "Plot Device" so that Megumi comes around like "F*ck, I whine here while all those people puttin' their life on the line - not only to safe me, but to safe the world." - And also to give Yuji & Yuta time to be able to return to the battlefield against Sukuna. Maybe he has even some CT/Cursed Energy Ritual which prolongs Sukunas Nerf. Although I think its something wilder than a simple Tool or so. Maybe a self sacrifice. Anyways, the question is; do they stop Sukuna prior to the merger, or is the merger the plottwist itself? Yet in both cases I think, Megumi will have to grow up and become the Nihilist he always thought he would be: yes. There's no bigger sense. There's no bigger reason. There's only himself and only himself can decide if he wants to give himself a sense, a reason. Does he really wanna give those people the W which screwed him over? Which toyed with him? Will he really consider himself so special? Don't suffer other people too and say; "F*ck it, I'll struggle!"? Will he really just give up instead of putting up more? It doesn't anymore anyway. And I think, that will come - Because the most iconic Megumi Scenes are when he says; "Yameda! Yatte yaruyo!" which translates to something like "F*ck it, I'll do it!". In addition to that, one thing of Jujutsu Kaisen is to (cleverly) subvert "Expectations" in that Genre of Manga/Anime. So, Yuji is a "Good Guy" - He struggles to defend others, Megumi could "struggle" to ... well, for the same reasons as Sukuna maybe struggled to get to the point he is now. For himself. For his own values. Just maybe with slightly different values. Would make sense that kind of character development, which is started by Miguel - Who even started his entrance with basically "Mate, the world is bigger than Japan.".

At this point can you honestly say that this is good writing? I'd love to say the story is great and I love it, as much as the next fan but it just isn't right now. Sure maybe when future chapters come out and in hindsight Gege had a real plan all along, maybe not like Isayama level of planning but a plan nonetheless. But as things are right now, I cannot think of a logical way the story can continue without him pulling some bs or just using shock factor to progress the story (i.e. beating Sukuna) just because of how unbeatable Sukuna is right now. Yea Yuji got power ups, but he's miles away from beating Sukuna, the best purpose he served was acting as an assist to Yuta in weakening Sukuna's output. Objectively the best chance we had all along were Yuta Maki and Hakari (after Gojo's death) , now 2 of them are easily defeated by Sukuna (yes , easily, Maki did fuck all + the seemingly shit tons of damage dealt by yuta to Sukuna also ended up doing fuckall as if Sukuna has infinite health). Under this context, is there really a logical way where Yuji jumps from where he is now to surpassing Yuta Maki in a super short span of time? Even if that happens, how far off would he be compared to Sukuna? TLDR , Sukuna is literally unbeatable + there is no logical way for anyone to be able to beat him now due to Gege's own writing, and I would be delusional if I say this is good writing ( as much as l'd love to be proven wrong.

This situation is completely different from Madara (so far). Madara started out fighting the 5 kage, and then Sasuke and Naruto had to build up towards Madara's power, and then Madara got even stronger, creating an arm's race that ended the way it did. Sukuna didn't get any stronger. He started at his peak against Gojo and has slowly but surely losing CE, output, RCT slowing down, getting damaged, soul damaged, lost a cursed tool, Mahoraga and the whole 10-Shadows (at least everything that went into Agito), etc. Sure, he got a temporary boost from the black flash, and created the World Slash, but his overall power has been going down steadily.

Like idek what gege could do at this point. Them beating sukuna won't erase this damage unless if its some real fire twist. Without sukuna, yuji is essentially not even a protagonist anymore, he's just a strong mid tear sorcerer with no domain. Then he couldn't even separate megumi. Maki got washed even after two power ups. Gojo seemingly dead(probably not). Kenjaku made a rule with his head chopped off to give sukuna tenjen. Now it's one by one death chapters. Characters people don't even care about fighting sukuna. Todo never came back. I'm just tight, been mid since mid way through the culling game it just feels rushed and aimless.
