@@thirtythreeflavors how did he judge other black ppl? All he said was "get with it", which we should. It's sad how a holiday created for us, most of us don't even celebrate. Sensitivity, and trying to find problems to project onto other black ppl, is why we don't work together

How does his personal accusations change what these basic principles mean to the Black community? Even though most of big banks financed the insurance policies on the enslaved, and the slave ships, does that mean you don't have a bank?

Quick Tip for Celebrating Kwanzaa: Go to "KWANZAA 53 anniversary"'s facebook page. It displays flyers for public celebrations that are going on around the country. That's probably the best place to start, go to a kwanzaa celebration.

Thank you for such a creative, entertaining and educational piece on Kwanzaa! Only one word for the next time - and we certainly hope you do another! - Swahili language pronunciation is not difficult - so please do it right. The whole point of using Kiswahili in Kwanzaa is to introduce us to our own languages - let's step correctly. Asante sana.

For Kwanzaa’s creator, Maulana Karenga, has a violent, racist criminal record, and is even a rapist who was convicted of torturing his victims. Happy Kwanzaa!!

I live in East Central Africa... no one fucking knows what Kwanzaa is... I'm not one to hurl accusations at people but for a group that throws "Cultural appropriation" around... this is just ripping off various African words to make a fake holiday....
@bre93283 жыл бұрын
You can't "cultural appropriate", a culture that you could possibly stem from. Black American culture is literally the remnants of African cultures combined with new culture black ppl in America had to adopt. So, yes, we are a group that, "throws around cultural appropriation ", because everyone else actually apropriates black Americans while simultaneously disliking us. Your comment is a prime example of ppl not wanting black American to be happy/have anything, especially culture. "No one f*cking knows what Kwanzaa is"....ok ..good for yall, we do. I guarantee you no one knows half of the traditions in Africa, but you'll never see me spewing negativity on a video about African traditions, "No one f*cking knows blah blah blah". Yall hate for BA is truly disgusting.

Kwanzaa is an African-American celebration. It is not known in Kenya or Tanzania (the 2 main countries using Swahili, even though there are speakers in Uganda, Rwanda, Congo and Burundi to name a few) and I would go as far to say not in Africa. I could see why too. It is such a diverse continent, with over 100 languages, Kwanzaa only uses the Swahili language. It was quite shocking to learn all the words from the name of the celebration to the principles are all in Swahili. Even the colors of the candles are of the Kenyan flag. Some meanings though should be corrected, kujichagulia is one word which means choose for yourself. Kuumba is to create not creativity. Also, please learn how to correctly say the names if you plan to adopt the celebrations. The pronunciations are quite off. That being said as an East African who has never set foot in America, I plan on adopting Kwanzaa. The principles are definitely in line with my culture. *Ps* It also is weird for me as a native speaker to say Habari gani, that's how we greet each other anyways when you meet someone, literally How are you. My ears and brain would interpret that as "Hi, how are you Kwanzaa" taking Kwanzaa to be someone's name. I wouldn't say how are you Christmas. On the top of my head Salama or Amani would be a much better fit. Imma look for one I will incorporate on my own though
