I can't believe Steven has gone in such tragic way. I really liked his articles and having source links at the footer. My condolences.

First time I saw the Eletre in pictures I thought it was beautiful. Agree with Kyle though. Green! We need more green colored cars in the world. Hoping Fisker will offer a nice green on the Alaska.

Dave, when they produce the gas F-150, they stamp the fenders for the electric lighting in that same plant, and then send the painted cabs, doors and other stuff over to the lightning production facility out in the parking lot. So I would guess they make all the fenders on one tool, and then have a replaceable stamp that they can attach to the die, and cut the holes for the power cord, or remove it for the regular fenders. So the passenger side fender is just like what is put onto all of the regular gas F-150 trucks. Another great video, full of information on the new cars!

The Rimac Nevera Nurburgring lap was stellar but amazingly the Nio EP9 lap time is 6:45 at the Nurburgring...........26 seconds faster! That time was set in 2017.

We will. Martyn had contractual obligations that prevented him from joining until September, and I've been taking time off. Come September, the four of us will be back in the saddle.

Tom correctly points out the ban and adapter Wild West. The charging providers are busy trying to reign in this cable damaging chaos. They certainty can identify the user and are working on identifying their vehicle manufacturer. It wouldn’t be hard at all to have the EV identify the adapter and either report that to the charger or simply prohibit its use unless they’ve identified the adapter as a genuine adapter they produced. That won’t stop the back market but it certainly can curtail the poorest of quality makers who’ll not know how to mimic a authentic adapter multi point authentication that can be conducted from each end. Most are probably unaware that USB cables can be identified by computers so adapters will be as easy also. The charging providers could also do a cable length test which is extremely easy to detect an adapter that adds as little as 2 inches to the length of the cable and deny the charge. This most likely will be the method deployed by manufacturers that will become the provider of choice to the smartest of charging providers that will insist on each North America standard cable (CCS and NACS) attached to a single charger or available at the same site. These cheap adapters days are numbered and everyone would be smart to avoid any adapter unless it’s from their manufacturer and is absolutely necessary. They will never be cooled and possibly lag detecting heat build up so will most likely be derated over a native no adapter connection. Stick with your favorite plug and inlet that naturally fit. Anything else is a bag of hurt. 21:04

wait... are you sure there is any logic inside these adapters at all? I could be wrong of course but after some reading I don't think so. I think all they do is route from one kind of pin set to another. I saw a tear down of the Tesla to CCS-2 adapter and there is no logic board. The only "smarts" it has are a micro switch to ensure that no communication is passed unless a certain pin is fully engaged; no comms, no charging started, and no current passed through it. There is also a thermal pad that might be for some possible protection in a catastrophic heat failure. That's it. I'm assuming the CCS-1 model isn't much different. If it's the same construction, there doesn't seem to be anything to be able to police these I'm afraid. I don't believe the CCS charging communication specs account for "smart" adapters. (Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. :))

@@petehelme7714 After working in electronics for 35 years after my major college study in the same, let me assure you that you can communicate over power lines to electronics very easily and it’s done quite often. I’m not saying any adapters have anything in them other than just wire, but they certainly can have and new equipment being made can certainly take an advantage of that technical capability. Outside of that, they could simply test the length of cable before the session starts and after it is plugged in, and if it is any different in length, they could deny the session on a dumb adapter that has nothing but wire inside it. The capabilities technically aren’t new technology. It’s to their advantage to use these techniques and I’ll avoid manufacturers that don’t. Because the Un-policed providers will have overheated and damage plugs which could and probably would damage your inlet which in turn could damage another good plug because now it’s resistants has been raised by the damage. Kind of like an electrical flu that gets passed around. It’s not the only way to damage plugs but the most common just behind Tesla plugs that run hot because owners are wrapping wet rags and pouring water on those Tesla handles to trick a sensor to not slow down the charge because of the heat. Those 400V Tesla’s are really current hungry and produce a lot of heat at every connection point of plug/inlet. Elon has seen it all which is why he locks AC and DC adapters on his modern charging equipment.

I'm definitely someone who can enjoy looking at and learning about these unbelievably expensive super cars that I'll probably never be able to afford. Not much to talk about though when the manufactures don't care much about talking charging curves and speed and all the other nerdy tech talk. I have zero interest in ICE cars now that I have transitioned to EVs. I see so many Tycan's around my area and nobody drives the EV version. It's really disappointing, but I live in Indiana where the audience is a tough sell for various reasons. I immediately stop paying attention to any new car announcement for an ICE vehicle. PHEV is still interesting and has a place for helping transition people to BEV. My previous vehicle was PHEV. I'm looking forward to the Episode 1 celebration! Congrats on making it through the early days of the podcast!

Love the show in general, but this was too much on the high end stuff. I realize that Kyle ranges from supercars to 10 year old busted up Nissan Leafs. Maybe set a limit of only one or two $200k+ car discussed per show?

Love the show as always. I hope your new home helps you to source more cars with batteries included in your personal lives. Great to see out of spec Dave. As Martin is not with you yet, I must point out that you now say the "Kings England" not the Queens. Hopefully the new monarch will invest in some spicy EV's, once JLR make some. Great to see the investment in the USA. The tax credits mean that only the ford Mustang Mach e gets exported to us. Do you think brands like GM should sell Chinese made GM EV's in Europe. It seem like it will be a long time before they have any spare, American made batteries for export.

I can not imagine Geeley producing less than 80,000 cars a year in any of their assembly plants. Even if it says "Lotus" on the front door. And Tesla is selling emission credits to the other gas car sellers in Europe. Are they still doing that? Will Lotus also be able to sell these emission credits to other companies? Or use the credits on other Volvo cars, so Volvo will no longer need to buy credits from others?

Please limit the talk about super performance EVs. I've been with you from the beginning and have learned so much. A mention of a new performance car is good. But an entire show doesn't do me any good. More practical content please.
