Motorcycling is awesome! Its honestly therapy for me. Cheap fun therapy, if your thinking about it just do it! I have a 2008 yamaha R6 , nothing beats taking a joint on a ride and just enjoying the sights. Also if you take a MSF course it can lower insurance costs so thats a plus.

Especially if you ever try a dirt bike or a dual sport (once you try off roading a motorcycle, trust me, you WILL want to do it again, even my mom got hooked), not only is it good for learning to ride without ABS, it's also a mandatory step you have to take if you want to learn the physics of a motorcycle, how it actually works and how to make it do exactly what you want it to do. It teaches you correct rider position as well, and the ratio of front to rear brake needed to slow down as quickly as possible.

Kyle, absolutely get a bike! That rebel would be an amazing first bike for anyone. Kawasaki also makes a nice 650 with similar style. Best advice is to save some money for gear, and take a class. Do it! Do it now!

I've owned three gliders in my life, smallest 1200cc and the two other were 1500cc. Stopped riding two years ago, sold the last bike at that time for some extra money to buy a house, and since then I've been thinking about getting a smaller bike since all I did when I had my others were go on trips into the countryside during the summer. I always loved the look of the old Triumph bikes, and the Rebel 500 reminds me a lot of them except a much more modern style of course. Also seems like it'd be a perfect bike to ride even when the weather isn't great since smaller bike have way better handling. Driving a 1500cc glider during rain makes taking the slightest turn a fucking gamble.

Do the class! It’s worth it. You’ll learn if you really want to ride or not. But the golden rule, its not if you’ll go down on the bike, but when and how hard. I live in FL and won’t ride down here, too dangerous, but I miss it.

If you want a bike more your size look at the Shadow Phantom! It's a 750, I'm 21 and have been riding my 2000 Shadow now for just under a year now!

Bro I've been riding a motorcycle as my only vehicle for 5 years, in Canada, summer and winter, as well as a dirt bike off road. Haven't ever gotten into an accident on the road, wrecked a few times off road but I didn't even break anything. The risk is very over-exaggerated, the overwhelming majority of people who get into crashes and die are NPCs who don't even know that counter steering is a thing.

I’ve been riding my entire life. Take your MS course first. If you’re looking for a cruiser, get a Honda rebel, a Yamaha Bolt, or a used Indian Scout. Don’t waste your money on a Harley Sportster, unless you’re deadset on having a unreliable bike and can do your own work and maintenance . I own 3 sportys and they never all run at the same time.

It's not a "different" one. It's an endorsement on your current license. However if you don't have a license for a car and don't want one, you can get a motorcycle exclusive license.

I wouldn't recommend it for him. He is kind of soft. He will probably realize that you get hot on hot days and cold on cold days and there is wind, and one week in when a car doesn't notice him and he has to drive defensive he will sell it. Woody could do it but now he is flying through the air and older he doesn't need that high risk low reward.

Anything off the Japanese big 4 isn't a bad choice and Yamaha and Honda are at top of all motorcycle brands. Whatever it is you are looking for they probably make it at a good price and are extremely reliable along with having the some of the largest aftermarkets. Either Honda and Yamaha Kyle is making a good choice.
