I did my Norwegian basic training in the fall of 1976, at that time I was going to become a (very) forward artillery observer, what we called "Artillerijeger". We had what was probably the very first Simrad night-vision laser range finder which we used to measure target locations to ~5m precision, which is almost overkill for an 18-gun 155mm battery. The scope was tripod mounted with a huge zoom lens and a big warning sign about not pointing the IR (i.e. invisible) laser at personnel, particularly at night time.

Although my rifle is 17-something years old, the button for the folding stock has only just worn enough to be usable by a normal human thumb - they are usually so stiff that they have to be pushed in with a wooden block or similar. A mirage strap has nothing to do with changing your barrel, it has to do with preventing a "heat haze" type mirage from forming directly in front of your scope and obscuring your shot. Even crazier when you get to know Accuracy International was made up of, basically, two guys in a shed, I recommend Ian's other video on the Artict Warfare father rifle, the L96A1: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2Gsp6KBrNt4mNUsi=WfIjM_vjRe9GryWM Assuming you haven't watched it*

I recently bought the Steve Houghton book and can vouch for it; if Your into this, it's full of good stuff.

I've never heard of a mirage strap before. I've seen them on a gun in media, but I always thought it was some sorta carrying thing. Pretty cool stuff to learn.
