It used to be eighteen to drink. I drank from 18-20 then had to wait a year before I could legally drink again. A lot of it was because parent were sending college tuition to their 18 year olds and instead they were drinking it up. And coming home in a month or two because they got sent home because the tuition hadn’t been paid. Same thing happened because of gambling in some states. Now you have to be 21 to gamble in casinos.

The truth is you can't earn money from a dishonest person anywhere. If they will steal newspapers, they will steal everything everywhere... In America those newspaper single copy vendors work every day of the week as independent contractors, and pay people to take a day off. Waking up in the wee hours of the morning to work their routes four to five hours a day. When you steal a newspaper, you steal that dealers baby's milk that day. If you don't feel guilty stealing baby's milk, well, you are a heartless heel... Independent contractors buy their papers at wholesale and sell them for retail. You are not stealing from the giant filthy rich corporation that owns the newspaper... ]

One thing I really appreciate about your videos is that you stay out of politics. I find it incredibly insulting and rude when outsiders try to tell U.S. citizens how to vote, regardless of which side of the fence they think we should be on. I can't even imagine trying to tell people from another country how to vote. So love our choices or hate our choices, they are OUR choices.

I agree. And I'm old and very tired of blanket nasty assumptions about all 359 million of us. Around the globe and even in the states, British folks think I'm the complaint department. Assumptions based on ignorance and propaganda. However, we think of them as allies and we generally don't sit around and trash talk, England. We aren't taught to hate England or the entire UK. I do find Scots and Irish and Welsh folks a lot of fun and quite warm. Many British seem to be in a perpetual bad mood. Maybe it's the weather. Not enough sunshine would be a downer. ☮️🇺🇸🇬🇧

The drinking age was lower once upon a time. When it was lowered to 18, there was a significant increase in drunk driving and teenage deaths. It was raised after a few years, back to age 21

I'm old enough to remember when the drinking age changed, and it was first changed to 19, then the next year to 20 then finally to 21. I was 15 when this all started but the guy that lived next door to us turned 18 about a week before the age went up, so for 3 years he could only buy alcohol for a week each year.

​@Zundfolge at least or state grandfathered in. If you were old enough to buy when the law changed you were old enough period. A lot of states made an exception for military IDs for a while also. My husband was old enough when age went up but not me. However, I could drink at 18 once I married and got my spouse ID. Good thing I enjoyed it I guess. The year I turned 21 had 2 kids, not twins.

When I was in high school, 1968 to 72, the drinking age in New Jersey was 21, 19 in New York, both 21 now. The bars and liquor stores in Staten Island, NY did a lot of business on the weekends.

You will appreciate an automatic car once you live in a big city with lots of stop and go. Here in the USA is very comfortable. When I lived in Madrid for example I would get cramps almost everyday. because of the constant clutch usage. Im 6,6 or 1.98 in height and with their tiny little cars it was guaranteed to have a cramp.

Are we lazy yet we’re considered workaholics! Make up your mind. We’re basically workaholics and go through drive through because sometimes it’s faster while getting home from working 12 hr shifts. The longer we’re at our jobs, the more vacation time we get and some places let you accumulate person time off. We have to take a minimum of 1 week off each year according to our state law. This guy just glossed over things and again, these are only his distorted view of things but there are exceptions and options he may not even know so he doesn’t mentioned.

A waiter or waitress will always ask if you’re finished before they take your plate. They’ll ask if you want them to take your plate.

Exactly, they will ask first. Also, a restaurant is a business so they want to serve as many people as possible, In Europe, specially in the south, like Spain, Italy, etc... They will stay for hours chatting after their meal. In Europe restaurant have very short windows where they serve meals. In Spain , unless a very very touristy area , restaurant open around 1 or 2 pm and they close 4pm or 5pm. In the USA they are open and serving almost al day and they're always full. There is no way you are going to be there for 4 hours with your friends taking a space when the restaurant can be making money.

@@robertofernandez7773 I have sat for a few hours in a restaurant (in the US) chatting with a friend or two that I haven’t seen in a long time but we’ve paid the check and it’s only if the restaurant is not busy and it’s not close to closing time. We’ve also checked with the waitress and they’ve said it’s not a problem.

Most European live within ten kilometers of a police station, not all though... In America most don't. The nearest town with the county sheriff at the county courthouse is 40 miles away from my ranch... Everyone of my neighbors have GUNS, as do I, whether you like it or not... That guy is the kind of person we imagine a lot of people in the UK think of Americans. Misinformed and kind of snobbish. Everything we do is apparently weird to him. As far as the driving automatics, that's mostly what the manufacturers are selling now. People who love driving still try to get stick shifts because they're more fun to drive. Automatics are quicker because the computers are so good now they can shift quicker than a person can. What kind of cars do most Britts drive that are shift sticks? Are they even fun to drive or fast? Besides Mini Coopers I can't think of a British car that would be cool to drive unless it's a really expensive car! I never hear Britts talk about muscle cars like the Mustang, Camaro and the Corvette.

This past week, before heading off to work, I was at the post office twenty minutes before it was set to open. So, I'm standing in the vestibule, before they opened the 'main doors'. A guy comes in, we started talking and had a good conversation, his auto accident, medical issues etc. Once in, I let him go ahead and when he left, we shook hands, wished each other well and that was that. Just a normal day in NYC. Americans are friendly - that's just how it is. I think, for the most part, we don't meaningless say, "How're ya doin'? Why waste the time asking, if not really even somewhat interested? Why be phony about it?

In rural Britain farmers set up honor boxes sometimes. It's basically a box of stuff like eggs or jars of honey that the farmers have produced along with a sign listing the prices and a lock box to put money into. Same sort of honor system. I'm guessing the guy in the video being critiqued doesn't get out of his local city that much.

One important thing about guns in the USA. The right to own them is entrenched in the Bill of Rights (the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution) It's been that way since 1791 and changing it (or ANY amendment) would be a formidable task. By the way, it was the British who GAVE many of the settlers weapons very early on who, ultimately, used those weapons to drive the Brits from our land. While there's a LOT of debate about who should/shouldn't have a gun and the requirements to get one, you would be hard pressed to find an American who believes that ALL guns should be illegal.

Here's the logic behind keeping Fahrenheit over Celsius. Celsius measures what? Freezing and Boiling Points of Water, correct? Literally 99.999999% of other things are not water. Yeah, they may have water within their system, like even humans do, but are we measuring the freezing and boiling points of that water within us? No, no we aren't. With Fahrenheit, using that same general 0 - 100 scale, we measure a greater range of humanly conformable Temperatures. Let's say anything above 40°F to 100°F is doable for most living things. That's a 60° range. (32° is Freezing, btw). So let's convert 40° and 100° F to Celsius. 40°F is 4.4°C, and 100°C is 37.7°C. That's just a 33.3° range you can play with there. 60 > 33. With a greater range of Temps you can play with for comfortable living, you don't have to worry about decimal places that much. There's not that much difference between a degree in Fahrenheit, but I guarantee there is in the Celsius scale. And outside of doing science in a lab, or cooking, do you really need to know the boiling point of water? I'm more concerned when I'm gonna freeze or sweat my balls off, know what I mean? And as it gets closer to 💯, I know that's when I need to drink more water. (

Research Fahrenheit and you may discover BRINE has much to do with setting O, not water freezing at 32 degrees... Why don't idiots research using Wiki? From Wiki: Daniel Fahrenheit did not use the freezing point of water as a basis for developing his scale. He called the temperature of an ice/salt/water mixture 'zero degrees', as this was the lowest temperature he could conveniently attain in his lab. He called his own body temperature '96 degrees', and then divided the scale into single degrees between 0 and 96. On this scale, the freezing point of pure water happens to occur at 32 (and the boiling point at 212)

I explain the use of F over C in the USA in the terms of geography. From polar north to equatorial tropics, using F makes for more sense than C. Flying from Miami, FL to Anchorage, AK, check the temps on both scales and even a European will understand the efficiency of fahrenheit usage. You know, none of these channels ever mention that you can also order ALL your groceries online. From Amazon, they have Fresh and Whole Foods and delivery is free after a certain amount. Every time I tipped in Europe, they treated me like a weirdo. I am always like oh just take my money! In London, I had exceptionally great service and I felt like a hassle because of allergies. The UK's lack of patriotism, perhaps this could this explain why there doesn't seem to be a strong unifying national identity in the UK. As for the paid holidays, compare the productivity of US & UK companies. Vacation days are left up to the companies. US companies offer benefits to attract employees. These include vacation and health and dental insurance. Our government does not give them to us. In addition, you do not have a right to a job. To keep your job, you ought to at least be there. Too much time off means your job is not important to you. You can be replaced by someone who is better at the job.

Exactly. At a national level you may not have those laws like in European countries. But I have never worked in a job in the US without paid time of, benefits. I know they exist. But it is not the norm. I also got paid double when working a holiday or I could take another day off another time. Plus in general, we make way more money compared to our European counterparts. I would rather make more money and be financially independent ,than having 28 days of vacation that I can't travel or do anything else because I don't have the financial independence. Lots of my family members and friends that live in Europe stay at home on their vacation time because of low financial independence.

In Europe public toilets have a lock and you have to put a coin to be able to use it. To Americans this is weird as in the US, public restrooms are free. In Europe the prices in restaurants are higher and the portions are smaller and you don't get refills. I normally end up taking half of my plate home.

I don't know what restaurants he's been too, but the waiter or waitress will ask if everyone is done before taking your plate away. I don't think it's lazy that we don't use the same letters for certain words. I think once we became independent from Britain, and the country grew I think spellings changed. We do drink before you're 21 but in order to buy alcohol you have to be 21. 32 degrees is freezing and 212 degrees is the boiling point for water in Fahrenheit. That's not true about holidays. Certain places will pay time and half if you work holidays.

We may not use all of our vacation because a lot of the time, there's work to be done, and we value our jobs. We are competitive about our jobs, but also have a strong sense of responsibility. I learned to drive manuals transmissions and only bought manual transmissions until the dog-gone American vehicle companies quit making them. I much prefer manual. Also, our Constitution, unlike most in the world (Canada, Soviet Union (RIP and never return), China, Australia, etc), is based on "God-given" rights, not granted by the government. It's a limit ON government. Literally a list of things the government can NOT do,. It can be changed, but 3/4ths of the States must approve the change. One such limit is that treaties must be approved by the Senate with a 2/3rds vote. Which is why some treaties are never sent for approval, presidents such as the 43rd, just pretend they are in effect using word games.

No, it doesn't in any way, shape, or form say you have the right to own guns, or that the constitution protects that right. It specifically says the right of the people to bear arms, shall not be infringed. It does not specify any type of arms. Only that you have a right to have arms. Arms DOES NOT specifically mean guns. Nor does it mean it can not be guns.

As often happens in these videos, there is a lack of context. The drinking age is 21 because we had a big problem with young people in drunk driving fatalities. Kids drive here at 16 at the oldest, unlike Europe. Also, wait staff always ask if you're done before taking plates away. This guy apparently have never heard of diet pop, either, when saying free refills are too caloric. I'd like to see one of these un self-aware Europeans do a video about how the age of consent in Germany is 14, and how they drive manual cars and have no air conditioning in the 21st century; and they call us weird! Oh yeah, and they also like to start world wars. Definitely weird.

I find it fascinating that Europeans always find it strange that Americans are patriotic and love to display our flag. I find it strange that Europeans don’t love their country as much as we do. Are they annoyed that we love our country so much? If so, why visit the USA? Go visit other countries that behave in the same way you do and share the same beliefs and customs. I always believed that traveling to other countries was fun to be able to experience other cultures.... and I never traveled to other places and then criticized them for being different from the United States.

It’s not that others love their country less, we just display it more. This can come off as fake or as just an act. Especially since we don’t have as many laws and benefits to show that care for our ppl like other countries. So let not judge others patriotism, if we don’t want to be judged.

Omg! Yes! I’ve been there! Absolutely loved the place. I asked a waiter if my table could be wiped down , it was sticky (by previous patrons). He threw a wet rag at me and told me to do it myself. And before that, we were standing in the front deciding if we were going to eat there. A waiter hollered at us and said “get your butts in here, you’re taking up space out there.” Oh it was really different and fun!!

There used to be a place in Yarmouthport, MA on Cape Cod called Jack's Outback (pronounced as 2 words 'out' & 'back'); it was a hidden gem off Rte 6a (located behind another building - so out back). It was owned by John Braginton-Smith. You had to wipe your own table, write your own order, get your juice glass from a cabinet near the toaster and then pour your own juice. There was a picture of eyeglasses on the cabinet door so you knew where to find the 'glasses'. Jack would decide if he felt like cooking what you wanted. I don't remember any menus, you looked around to see what people were eating. The funniest thing was the size of the tip bowl near the cash register. It was huge, like a banquet salad bowl. It was always chock full of money, though. RIP Jack - thanks for the special memories. 🙏❤️

FYI - the clearing of dishes after eating: yes, in restaurants we clear when the individual is done (and yes it’s preferable to most people for the same reason you said). However, in a home or sometimes club-type or banquet fine dining situation, we do still do a same-time clearing. I love both! Because I feel like they fit the situation. There’s something wonderful about old-time manners and etiquette and unfortunately much of that has been lost, either due to ignorance or just impatience. One of my favorite things working as a maid was how we served dinner with the whole serve on the left, clear from the right and having all the dishes in the same place at each setting.

In the 60’s America was preparing to switch to the metric system. There was a great emphasis in learning the metic system, I was in school then and I remember. However, the government did not make the switch mandatory. So since it wasn’t required most people didn’t switch. Anyhow that’s how I remember it.

I think that foreigners and influencers over state the tipping requirements. If the service is bad I will not tip and I will make it clear that they sucked ($1.00 tip) when I tip I leave a good tip. I am sure that many waiters in the US make way more money than the staff in other countries that don’t tip

Not true about guns. I have over 30 guns but each time I bought one, I had to wait 14 days to pick up the gun. Also, I don't have one bullet. That's run. I'm not interested in shooting at all. I just collect silver-plated, gold-plated, and engraved guns as a hobbies. During the 14 days, they check my police record (none) and psychological profile (clean).

I buy guns and they do the background check right there in the store. Walk out in 30 minutes with your firearm. In Oregon it's like that anyway. Washington State you have to wait 14 days I think.

The "free right hand turn" rule requires you to come to a complete stop if the light is red and make sure the way is clear before taking the right hand turn. It is also voided if there is a sign prohibiting it. There are rare cases with one way streets where you can take a "free left hand turn" under the same conditions, stopping and yielding to cross traffic first.
