This brings back so many memories for me, I was only 16 years old in 1971, I'm now 69 and still love listening to this haunting song. I was madly in love with the girl I would eventually marry. And this song sings the very words I felt at the time.

I served this great man when I was working as a young saturday boy at McFisheries supermarket on Kensington High St.London when this song was No1 in 1971. It was just before Xmas. I'm so sorry Labi for spoiling your two whole trout fish. I was new at the filleting game.Please forgive me. Thank you for the wonderful music.

So much better than the Madness version. It's a bit like a door that's been painted that many times - strip it down and you're left with the bare wood. It's also the same with I Think I Love You by the Partridge Family - the version on the Jackie Album is a bit overdone and a bit uptempo whereas the original version is much slower and something I really can't describe. But sometimes cover versions can work out good...like Mud's version of Buddy Holly's Oh Boy.

I agree apart from one bit. On the choruses I like the way Madness have that rising three note melody on the _"It must be"_ bits before it hits the word 'love'. Siffre's _"must be"_ notes are the same note as the 'love' note. Not quite as effective for me.

@OutGayMusic9 жыл бұрын
+timtak1 "about a guy" for sure - Mr Siffre has been Out for decades. But, respectfully, you don't have to read references to animal homosexuality into it, nor limit the song's audience. The song's clearly intended to be enjoyed by anyone who would like to. Any other songs by gay folks which I don't already have in my playlists that you'd like to recommend, I'd be happy to hear from you. (Better to send my channel a message than to reply here.)
