I remember when I went to the hospital(I was already 6 cm dilated) the triage nurse was thinking she was going to have to send me home due to me being to calm. I had never had a baby before so I didn’t want to be too *dramatic* (lol) until I knew that I was actually in labour. I’m truly too polite to a fault, that moment made me realize that 😂
@Nurse_zabe4 жыл бұрын
😂😂😂But I think it’s also important to remember that TV shows make labor seem way more intense and dramatic than it always is. It’s good that you were calm at 6 cm, but kind of frustrating she didn’t trust that you were in labor.

I planned on doing some baking for a distraction when I started labor. However, my labor started so hard and fast, I didn’t get the chance. I started painful contractions at 4am on May 16th. By 8am they were too painful to speak through. We left for the hospital at 10:30am and I was absolutely howling. I was 6 centimeters when we arrived at the hospital. Each contraction was about a minute long and less than 3 minutes apart at this point. I moved through transition in 20 minutes, pushed 3 times, and my little boy arrived at noon. My labor and delivery was only 8 hours all together but it was the hardest and most painful experience of my life. Holding my baby boy made it all worth it though❤️❤️

Lol, I've always wondered about that "hear where you are" and "talk through contractions" theory. I'm sure it works for a few folks but I'm sure pain tolerance, labor preparedness, and determination play a much bigger role. I can't imagine that my voice made any changes from start to finish, lol. Talked the whole time and the "rules" were the same from the first pain...no talking and don't touch me.
@juliebranton17304 жыл бұрын
For me I went in at five minutes apart for two hours and contractions were 45 seconds long. I wasn’t dilated enough so they told me to walk. So I walked around the hospital for three hours until I was contracting every two minutes and was crying because of how much pain I was in. Needless to say they let me stay after that 😂. My husband said next time we aren’t going until I reach that point again. Love this video!
@Nurse_zabe4 жыл бұрын
Kind of my point that every 5 mins can last for a bit without much cervical change. Doesn’t mean it isn’t the beginning of labor! Your body sometimes has to work a bit before your cervix catches up. Just know with baby #2 that phase is quite a bit shorter! 💗

The hospital I went to when I had my second baby did the baby rooming in with me. But, during the day I asked if they could take him to the nursery so I could rest for an hour or two (this was right after a feeding) and they refused! And they wouldn’t let my husband take baby out of the room so I could sleep either. I was not impressed. I know not all hospitals have the same policies but it makes me rethink where I’m having my next baby. I’m all for baby rooming in, but still having the nursery as an option during the day so mommas can rest doesn’t seem too unreasonable. Anyway. Thank you for your informative and amusing videos! Seeing your “human” side as a medical professional makes me feel like you and others in your profession aren’t just doing a job- you’re there to help and encourage young mommas to succeed in one of the hardest moments of their lives.
@Nurse_zabe4 жыл бұрын
Yes, baby-friendly facilities have no nursery and baby must be with mama 23 out of 24 hours per day (basically giving time for the circumcision if that is desired by the parents). Many families pick my current hospital because we have a respite care nursery so mom can get a nap or a shower or go outside without baby. 💗

My hospital didn't have a nursery, but when I had my first son, he was doing the cluster feeding and I was so hungry, thirsty, and exhausted that I was crying and the nurses asked if i needed a break. I said yes, and they took him to the nurses station to watch so I could get rest. It was amazing, and I think I even got to sleep 3 hours.

I love The Office! I went into labor at 4am and threw up 6 times, which probably helped first-time labor only be 7.5 hours. I'm pro eating in labor, but I could barely even keep water down. My husband asked if I wanted McDonald's for breakfast, and that sounded absolutely revolting.

They’ve been practicing their breathing a lot, have plenty of amniotic fluid, just all around looking healthy. I’m so excited for them to come! My forth baby is now 14 months. I have a history of decently long labors(19.5 hours from water breaking and 511, 38.5 hours from 2-3 minute apart she was an en caul birth, 13 hours from 511). So when my inconsistent contractions had been going on for a couple of days I did my best to just do things with my daughters. I kept telling myself I'll know when to go in, I'll know when it's real. After lunch around 12:15 we were at the park I noticed the contractions were definitely not random anymore, we timed them to realize we had hit the 511. Called the doctor's office and were told to come in when we felt it was needed, I told the doctor I wanted to labor more at home and with my history I felt we had a ways to go yet. That night after everyone was in bed I couldn't sleep. From about 10pm the contractions were 2-3 minutes apart. At 1:30am I had some bleeding, I called again and the doctor was like okay time to come in. We arrived at the hospital at 2. It took me 15 minutes to walk from our parking space to the door. My husband told them it would be best to wheel me to a room. Was at 6cm and 100%. Two hours later my water broke and within three minutes of that my 9lbs 10.2oz baby boy was born. If it wasn't for the slight bleeding, which was just a sign of cervical change, I wouldn't of gone in. My son would have been born at home. My labor and delivery nurse basically ran into the hall and grabbed the midwife when my water broke and said this baby is coming now. The midwife barely had time to put on gloves. Every labor is different and I love to see them put on a screen. Thank you for your insight.

Loved this. I would love to see your reaction to her second half of the hospital stay. Where she is learning to breastfeed. I laughed so hard. If you've seen it you'd know why

I just watched this episode today, I’m 31 weeks and The Office is the only show keeping me going while I’m on bed rest preparing for a stillbirth delivery in a week... before I found out the diagnosis it was all about your videos along with mama natural and Bridget Teyler. I’m also having BHs... Thanks for bringing me light with this video ☺️

I am 35 weeks and my doctor hasn’t even said anything to me about when to come in for contractions or what to look for if my water broke! I don’t get why they wouldn’t tell you at like 30 weeks so you’re informed! Glad we have the internet or I’d be clueless lol.

I think my favourite part of this episode is when they're pulling out of the carpark and Dwight stops the car to tell Michael about where he saw a dear 😂😂
