I'm so glad she was accepting of what Danny was going through. She could have focused on the fact that he cheated and hurt her and that would have been valid. But she instead focused on his struggle with his sexuality and the weight of not only being scared to tell his family but scared to be his true self. 👏🏼 21:09

I love this movie so much. It was so relatable to me in almost every way. I went to Catholic school, and I wanted to leave my hometown for New York, I was very theatrical, and like most teenage girls I fought hard with my mom but grew up and discovered we have a very similar personality. I'm a sucker for mother/daughter relationships because my mom and I are very close. Timothée Chalamet was on the come-up this year. He had Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird, I saw CMBYN at Sundance so I knew him from there first and then saw him play a total asshole here lmao.

That actor jake mcdorman from shameless (the teacher from the beginning of the movie) also starred in this HILARIOUS and really amazing show I think y'all would really love, called 'Limitless'. My long-winded explanation of it: it's based on a movie with the same name. Mcdorman plays this slacker/stoner guy who starts taking a pill that makes him just impossibly smart & observant, but it has deadly side effects (UNLESS...). He uses it for about 50% good-of-humanity stuff- aka he reluctantly teams up w some equally-reluctant detectives who need his stupid smart brain to stop ppl from abusing/enhancing the drug- and 50% mischief and loveable stupid chaos. the main actress is from 'Dexter', too. it's like watching the funny/clever parts of Good Will Hunting, but amped up to 100 and more of a crime-fighting mystery than a crime-atonement coming-of-age story.

Lady Bird received 5 Academy Award nominations including best actress and supporting (Saorise Ronan and Laurie Metcalf), as well as best original screenplay and director for Greta Gerwig, including best picture. I think you have to have a sister or have observed that relationship with your mother and sister(s) to see how authentic this is played out. Not to say that this is a one-size-fits-all type of relationship, but it one that I've recognized with my sisters and mother growing up that was similar. I think the mother gets a lot of flack, but what I don't seem to hear is that she has the pressure of being the breadwinner and doing the heavy-lifting working hard as a nurse and supporting her family while having a rebellious daughter. Also, there aren't as much female coming-of-age stories told and directed by women. In the past, not many female led movies were written by women and directed by them too. There still is a big gender disparity in Hollywood and even across the board in film. Thankfully, things are pushing for more female told/directed films, but still a ways to go. Perhaps, this specific relationship dynamic in this film seems foreign to you because a woman wrote, drawing from her experiences, considering this is a much acclaimed and nominated film. Almost 20 years before, there was also a film called Real Women Have Curves with similar themes and dynamics, but from a Latina perspective starring America Farrera in her breakout role that got her attention that lead to a more commercial series, Ugly Betty, an adapted telenovela that's spans across Latin-America. Just something to think about.

My dad has actually blamed for things I had no control over (I was a child) and he’s actually told me he hates me, I’ll never forget that, and I’m sure he loves me, but I don’t think he likes me very much. It’s funny, because the second the Danny talks shit about her mom, she defends her, I’m the same with my dad lol. I love Saoirse Ronan and this film.
