Today we explore Bavaria, Germany for the first time as American's! We jumped on the opportunity to see Lake Königssee and Obersee and it was BREATHTAKING!
We were so in awe of this entire region that it was almost difficult to stop and film at times because our jaws were literally dropped open and we didn't want to stop staring at the remarkable scenery. We could DEFINITELY live in this region. Future plans, anyone?
We hope you enjoyed our tour and information about Lake Königssee and all it has to offer when you visit. If there is anything else we should know about, drop us a comment because we WILL be back.

Have you been to lake Königssee before? Are there any other highlights we should be on the lookout for next time or hidden gems in the area? What’s at the top of your Germany travel list? ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Yeah, I've been to the Königssee a couple of times. Quite next to it is the "Kehlsteinhaus" (aka. "Eagles Nest"). It's on top of the mountain (1,881m) and quite a nice place, although it was built as a resident for Hitler. You can get up their by bus (sadly quite expensive, but worth it!) or walk (won't do that!). On top you have an amazing view, a restaurant and can walk around. If you arrive at the bus stop, you'll walk through a very, very long tunnel where you find an golden (!) elevator at the end of it, which brings you to the house on the very top! About 50km north-west of it, you'll find the amazing Chiemsee, where you should go if you are nearby. If I am not mistaken, it's the largest lake in Europe (or at least in Germany). On a good day the water is crystal clear and warm - amazing place to go swimming! Or you jump on a boat and drive to the islands in the lake. On the "Herreninsel" - for example - you'll find a castle and a nice park. It's a historical place, as Germany - as we know it today - was founded on this island in August 1948. Really nice place, too. Google some images! :)

It was one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever been to. I think we could actually spend several days just at that location trying to do everything there is there. We think we saw that there are ice caves as well? We will def be back for stuff we missed!

My the first time on skis was at the Königssee decades ago at the age of 2 or 3. But it was mostly my dad or mom pulling me along on skis. 😁 On the other side of the Obersee is a more traditional Alm which serves food too. Might be a good idea to watch the Almabtrieb at the Königssee/Obersee. You have to check for the exact date later on. But be aware the date may change on really short notice due to changing weather conditions.

Oh wow that sounds amazing! Would love to try out some skiing while we are here! And I REALLY hope we can make the Almabtrieb happen as it’s something we’d truly love to do. That’s coming right up so we will have to see if we can swing it!

No Munich yet, but it's still on the list! We almost did a quick spin through on the way out but ended up on a different detour. There is SO MUCH we want to see more in that direction that we hope to do a much longer trip next time. Haha I'm such a boring eater. Just always been picky. And do they have mass there on Sundays? That would be beautiful!

You have chosen a really beautiful corner of Germany. But Bavaria is a tourist trap through and through, so it was never worth a trip for me. I love the north of Germany, mountains are really not my thing and Bavaria not at all. This Bavarian national pride and this tiny party CSU, which has been propagating for years that Bavaria should become independent of Germany and that in surveys every third Bavarian supports is hard to beat in arrogance. You obviously liked this vacation and that's good.

It truly was lovely! But yes, everyone loves something different. We have also heard great things about the north so looking forward to getting that way as well. Just can't believe the amount of beautiful places!

@@CompassChronicleTravels Of course, everyone likes something different and that's fine. I didn't really want to get political either, but I couldn't help myself. In Bavaria, everything is far too expensive and the food in typical tourist restaurants is also not particularly good, even though the prices are high. Even the cost of the short boat ride on the lake that you did...outrageous. You have enjoyed your trip and so it should be. And you wanted to tell us about it, thank you for that, is also a great video worth watching.

What's wrong with Bavarians having a bit of local pride? ;) Also, the CSU, which is as you said a tiny party, is not actually propagating to become independent of Germany, and I haven't met a single Bavarian who seriously considers leaving Germany. It is a running gag for the past several hundreds of years though that Bavaria is the real and better Germany, and everyone outside Bavaria is a stuffy Prussian, lol.

There is an elevator to the top of the mountain, to the Kehlsteinhaus. Americans call it the Eagles Nest. But it is pretty expensive with 17 Euro. But the view from there is awesome.

Yes! We actually would have liked to go there as well but just ran out of time. It closed much earlier than we realized that day, sadly. We will definitely be back soon though. Hopefully in September if it pans out!
