We also took down our antennas and removed wakeboard and fishing poles from the ski tower. Put out extra ropes as well to secure the boat. Have operable flashlights handy too!

Back in the late 70's we went to Hite Marina the first two weeks of July every year. You could set your watch by the windstorms that came up right around 3:00 every afternoon. Some 20 MPH, some 50 MPH, but almost every day, lasting an hour or two, then the rest of the day was GREAT. Sure do miss that end of the lake. Hopely it will come back in my lifetime.

Excellent video. I am glad that you made a point to make sure life jackets are on. People should make sure they have life jackets for their dogs on the boat too. Better safe than sorry...

Engine problems and 90mph winds beached us in Good hope bay....Was a scary SOB

I used to boat in a lot of heavy storms, and with every one it got easier.

It does get easier for sure.

Thank you for this video. It is very helpful. Out of the 16 times that I have boat camped, I have been scared 3 times.

nothing will take it out of you like getting caught in a Lake Powell microburst...and during the monsoon season ,its pretty much a roll of the dice

Micro burst are so unpredictable that is absolutely true.

This is my biggest fear of putting my boat on POWELL. 😬😬

A definite logical reason to be concerned

LP is one of the most unpredictable places i know of for storms, and the wind is like nothing i have experienced anywhere else. one night moored up in a very protected canyon we had a bad wind come up, i wasn't too worried as we had some very strong anchorages. one was across a narrow (but about 30ft deep) inlet, and we had 3 lines (1 bow, 2 stern) looped around a city bus sized boulder. of the 8 lines we had out those 3 were the ones i worried the least about. wind comes up. it gets stronger. this is 72ft houseboat. wind hits the side of the boat with enough force that it moved the boulder off its perch and it slowly slid down into the inlet, which threatens to pull the houseboat down with it, luckily a hatchet was close by and the lines were severed before any major damage occurred. the cleats were bent over at about a 45 degree angle. fun times.

I actually heard about your story second hand from another friend of mine. Either that or someone else had the same story. It is crazy how much force wind can exert on a house boat.

Good video....have you published a video about your camera equipment and edit8ng, kinda like what it takes to make one of your videos ? Give people an idea of how much effort goes into your video creations....

No I haven't published anything on that, but I will in time 👍

I remember in the 80's, my parents boat cought in a storm. I was terrified. It was so windy and rainy causing visibility to be poor as well. Maybe 20 ft. Swells 4-5 ft in the main chanel. I think we got lucky and the boat was a cuddy cabin. I believe if we had an open bow, all would have been lost.

Sounds scary.

Great video and info. Put those life jackets on, including for your dog / pet. Pay attention to the clouds and weather. Inexperienced captains should not try to head to a dock or slip - they can be very dangerous for passengers and your boat. Thanks Thor!

You are welcome. I keep a life jacket onboard for the dog.

out in the main lake our houseboat was taking water over the bow. now I know why there is a big lip at the sliding glass door between the front deck and the interior. We ducked into a side canyon and the wind went away.
