I had a Dorsoduro 750 FACTORY which has the upgraded fully adjustable suspension for 5 years and it was one of the best bikes I've owned. It sounds amazing, looks amazing and with a few mods goes like the clappers. A super-moto it is not but it looks and feels similar with the added bonus of comfort. I did trips through France and Germany with no issues other than a bit of wind blast and being a slightly unusual bike it gets a lot of attention. One of the biggest down sides for me was the tank range, 80 miles to reserve if you're lucky so fuel stops had to be planned. Other than that it is simply a Brilliant bike! Not as powerful as the KTM or Ducati but not far off and IMO looks the best of the bunch. It's the gentleman's super motard while the KTM/Ducati are parked in the garage next to a souped up cosworth :) If you like the looks of the Dorsoduro but want more power check out the Dorsoduro1200. Chops, every thought about doing a review of the Aprilia Caponord would be interested in what you think.

As an ex-owner if an Sxv550 I can confirm is was everything it was cracked up to be, and way way more. Such a shame about the reliability issues with the early bikes that also went on to haunt the later bikes image. I'd still have another in a heart beat. I met a Dorso owner once, asked him if it was reliable, he said he drove the bike from Eastern Europe (somewhere, perhaps Poland) to the UK and it didn't miss a beat. I think he was even doing courier work on it tbh. Not sure how much the 1200 Dorso weighs, but maybe that could be the one...?

The Dorsoduro 1200 is what you want. It just has real grunt. Something that heavy shouldn’t be able to go that fast. 230kg is ridiculous, but you feel like you’re on a supercharged rhinoceros. Despite the size, it doesn’t feel cumbersome or too big for its own good. It’s one of those things you ride that makes you feel like the road is yours. It won’t take corners as fast as some bikes, but it’s good enough if you know how to really handle it. The further and more often you push it, the better you get a handle on it, so it’s a total hooligan’s dream. There are downsides, namely the expense and fear of damaging it by pushing it too hard. Original parts like fairings are rare as hens teeth and not cheap. If it had a fuel gauge and you saw how quickly the fuel gauge bars plummeted during your test drive, you’d realise then why Aprilia refuse to put the a gauge on a bike like this. It’s a great ride for a daily commute, but not a cheap one… and depending on your temperament, a safe one neither.

Since it's not quite a real supermoto, but a nice easy ride, how would you think it compares to the Aprilia Shiver? The Shiver uses the exact same engine and specs, but it's a naked style bike instead of the supermoto style, and at least here in Canada, it costs a whole whopping $2000 less than the Dorsoduro. Other than the styling, the only other difference I see between the two is the Dorsoduro has a bit of a longer suspension travel (160mm front and 155 rear vs. 120mm front and 130mm rear on the Shiver), 3L extra fuel capacity on the shiver (12L vs. 15L), and the Shiver does weigh a bit more at 218kg vs 186kg (both numbers dry).

I’ve always wondered about buying bikes that have limited import runs, especially Italian, in terms of long term support. I had a Varadero 1000 once, which was not nearly as popular as Honda would have liked. It was a pig to get parts for, and when a brake calliper mount cracked, I had to wait three months for a lower fork leg to come from Japan. Perhaps the limited import runs of these is reflected by the high insurance. Will the Dorso be as well supported as the Tuono long term, do you think? Not that many Aprilia dealers UK wide. (or Guzzi either) If you want Italian, Apart from Ducati, I think you have to be dedicated. However, you can’t knock the value for money, looks or quality of finish. Tempting.

Bit of a random one chops but an enjoyable review nonetheless! I do actually quite like this bike. I tried this & the Shiver out a while ago & surprised myself by much preferring this to the Shiver. However it's not really a supermoto, more of a stylised supermoto inspired naked as you've obviously worked out yourself. I think they stopped importing it due to emissions regs which they subsequently rectified for the 900 but it killed off the Dorso 1200 permanently sadly. Could be quite a saucy proposition with a full system & some Dymag wheels on. Do you think it could work as an every day naked?

my biggest problem with supermoto style bikes is the fuel capacity, especially with the actual supermoto rebuilds. The tanks are so small, its a pain to go anywhere long distance becasue of constant planning for petrol stations.
@Vffr14 жыл бұрын
Ture. At 100 miles you NEED to fine a gas station. It's such a great all around bike, if it had a bigger tank, you could actual tour on a Dorsoduro, it's that versatile. Triple

Chopsy get onto your contacts at aprilia and get them to do that v4 in an s100xr or multistrada style. God that would be epic especially if they emphasised performance but still considered comfort too...

I bought a new Dorsoduro 1200 a few years ago, and really loved it. Sold it due to lack of fuel range and luggage capacity (my riding priorities changed somewhat over the 18 months I had it). Still miss it though.

Cracking review ..... Specs aren't great compared to the KTM 790 Duke though ..... the Aprilia makes 3 more Nm of torque and has adjustable suspension ... but the KTM makes almost 10 bhp more (despite being 100cc down on the 900), is significantly lighter, takes 2 litres more fuel, has far better electronics package and is a touch less money than the Aprilia too ....... seems the 790 Duke is more supermo than than the Dorsoduro ;)
@justacomment16575 жыл бұрын
yes. until you sit on it and notice the ktm feels and looks like a toy up close. if you can cope with that go ktm if you are curius give both a ride.

Seems like an aluminum exhaust would do wonders for this bike. And a fuel gauge, I can't understand not having one in the 21st century.
@BugManRides5 жыл бұрын
Don’t understand why Aprilia refuses to put a fuel gauge on its bikes. That is something that is a “NO BUY”. It is a motorcycle not a lawnmower or weed wacker, it should have a proper fuel gauge. Call Giovanni at the Aprilia Factory and get it done Chops... Nice review, Cheers.

No mention of the suspension hardware. Showa? The tank looked anorexic but the overall look was gorge. And I don't mean cheddar. Great review of a bike I'd never seen before. Thanks.

I’ve always liked the look of this bike. Sounds glorious, too. A decent Akro exhaust (for example) is sure to help with less weight and a bit more power. Hmmm, tempted.🤔💯

I have a 2010 Dorsoduro 750. I've had 18 bikes to date and it's easily my favorite of all time. I'd say get a 750, it's lighter by about 30 less pounds and has just 1~ less bhp. I put on a Ti Exhaust system and a lightweight battery. I'd say I'm down an additional 25lbs from stock. With that, my 750 should be in the 390lbs range. Which would be a very different bike than the 900's 447lbs heft. These bikes are torque monsters, I normally mode down (Touring Mode) because it can be a hand-full pretty quickly in the twisties in Sport Mode. Used 750's go for $5,000-6,500 in Freedom Dollars. I just got back from a 3 hour ride and again this is the best bike I have ever had and I started riding in 1978 and have had just about every cool bike made. Triple
