Landlords continue to kick tenants out despite Gov. DeSantis' order to suspend evictions

The governor suspended all residential evictions across Florida after the financial fallout from the pandemic, but that order hasn’t stopped some landlords from threatening to kick families out of their homes, an ABC Action News investigation uncovered.

Your dad must have made thousands during those years of being a landlord and it's his fault for mismanaging his money. Not all tenants are scumbags I'm sure you're dad had some decent ones who paid their rents on time and provided your dad with a generous amount of income. Copper pipes are not that expensive and I'm sure you're dad either hired cheap labor or did patch up work for the place. Plus evictions are less than $700 and $200 with the sheriff's locking the place. Your dad wasn't hurting unless he was reckless with his money and spent well beyond his means.

When the landlord can't pay the mortgage on the house, and the bank takes it... the renters will still be out on the street. Do people really think houses grow on trees, and the people who own them just picked them off a branch for free? Houses are costly... property taxes, mortgage, repairs, etc. I feel for these people, but know that the landlords are people too, and may be having to decide on food vs paying mortgage, just like these people are having to decide food vs rent.

Well, he needed to stop the banks to stop collecting the mortgage. Most landlords owes mortgage. He didnt say anything to banks. Banks sent foreclosures notices. And, homeowners who still owe mortgages faced these issues. Start with the banks first. Also, he should have addressed the unemployment payment issues instead of arguing about it to reporters. Just to be clear, in case anybody cares, the Governor's order suspends the eviction action in court. It did not suspend putting notes on doors. The landlord has every right to document that he gave his tenant notice to pay rent.

Hills borough county commissioners need to lower the taxes on people’s homes by $300 this year. Also they need to lower the non homestead taxes on rental properties and tell the landlords to reduce the rents by the same amounts to tenets.

The real problem is going to be that all the ones who did not pay rent for a 30-90 days after this is over have to pay it at the end of this. Imagine having to pay 3 or 4 months of rent all at once. Evictions could be reinstated by then as landlords have mortgages too .

A great many people don't get that much back, and of those that do, very many spend that money on catching up on bills, paying back debt, and making necessary purchases and repairs. As long as they got their rent paid, who are you to tell them what to do with their money and condemn them for making decisions according to what they have to deal with day-to-day? That isn't your place or your choice. With the monumental support for a national quarantine, clearly almost no one in this country saw this outcome coming. You're angry at them for not being able to see the future and calling them something they aren't just to be mean. If they saw it coming, they would've been strongly opposed to the mass quarantine. Only some people got that stimulus money. Most haven't even received payment yet because the whole antiquated system is held up. On top of that, most applicable workers who were put out of work filed for unemployment *so* they could pay their rent. It's not their fault the states aren't paying. 26 million Americans lost their jobs in the last month. Over 33 million are currently either on furlough or terminated. That's the employers' fault. Those big companies took the company and then started mass layoffs. Why aren't you even more mad at them? Just because you got your refund doesn't mean everyone did. I got my refund back in February. Most people hadn't even filed by then. That's not usable as justification for that sort of prejudice. You're completely overlooking the fact that the banks were supposed to suspend mortgages so that property owners wouldn't have this reaction. You let that fly clean out the window. That's where your wrath should be directed though. That's why the courts shouldn't be processing evictions either. The landlords are being wronged by the banks and they're taking it out on the people. The people didn't do this to them, the incompetent government and the banks did. The people aren't automatically freeloaders just because they lost their ability to pay. They need food to work, and they need work to pay rent. Work disappeared from that equation and unemployment is being held hostage by the states. Should the states be sued? Yup. I agree with that wholeheartedly. But it's not cool to take jabs at people who are victims just as much as the landlords are. Foolish as it was to support total lockdown of the entire country, they aren't being freeloaders. Lacking in foresight, yes. But not freeloaders. The government had the data and didn't have to listen. Leaders are elected because the general population doesn't know how to run the country. So, we appoint people we believe do. The whole situation is bad. Hoarders spiked the prices of supplies. People would be able to save money for rent if that didn't happen. Why aren't you mad at them? Panic buyers made the situation even worse. You didn't mention them either. Big companies that could continue operations took advantage of the incident by laying off workers, flattening pay, and increasing their demand for high productivity without taking workplace safety into account. Completely overlooked. All of these other people who did unfathomable amounts of evil and your target is the general public?

Yep there will be a shortage of rental units after this. I have squatters in one of my places. An ex tenant who went to prison for wiring the place with pipe bombs came back and squatted. Whether or not you received a stimulus check, the law was passed by the Govener so follow it. Don't kick people when their out of work and ate having a hard time getting unemployment. The stimulas checks aren't enough to cover everyone's monthly bills for months, it's only going to last so long. Any landlord who goes against the non eviction law is greedy and doesn't have empathy for people who have fallen on hard tomes beyond their control. We are all in this together and need to.help support each other, let's be kind to each other.

I have tenants that refused to pay me zero rent, taking advantage of the situation, and when the air condition broke they forced me to fix it. Honestly sure this family didn't even bother working it out with the landlord, just told them they aren't paying. Ask you yourself why should the landlord be stiffed. If the government wants to really help is to tell them to pay rent and tell the utility companies to stop sending out the bills, or give me free property taxes for a couple of years until my money is made up, or give me bonds in return for allowing them to stay on my property. If you are honest you will now choose to stiff the landlords because they can twist their arms. If the property rights aren't upheld America is gone, PERIOD.

Being a landlord... my renter is the best renter I have ever experienced owning this house on top of being a teacher! Now I told him... if times get rough...I will work with him! Little does he know that I was going to give him 3mo free rental if needed and probably more just because a empty house cost me and he is such a great renter.
