Couldn't agree more with you Michael McMillan - she has a massive passion for languages which is an amazing thing to see from people of a similar age! Especially when you come from a country (in my case) where people prefer to be mongolingual :(
@LindieBotes
@LindieBotes 10 жыл бұрын
What do you mean people who prefer to be monolingual? Maybe it's just a hobby or talent that they haven't discovered yet, I doubt monolingualism is a "preference" rather than a prevailing situation. Where are you from? And I don't come from a monolingual country btw ^^ South Africa has 11 official languages. :D

Lindie Botes I'm from the United Kingdom :) in a recent article I read, 95% of the UK claim to speak no language other than English and numbers of students studying languages in schools are going down. Also when I witness on holidays in past people do this, really speaking loud thinking it'll make someone understand them thing and it really bugs me, especially when I go up to the same person and speak to them in Spanish they get shocked that a British person actually will speak the language to them. And yeah South Africa is amazing for language, ek praat n' bietje Afrikaans maar ... niet so goed(?)

Oh finally I have heard you answer a question I have had in mind to ask you! It is in regards to reading novels in the target language. I always feel guilty when I write in books, but I haven't found any other way to keep reading and not be too interrupted by the process of acquiring new vocabulary. So you underline and then look them up later..... I see I see.... :)

I think you're pretty cool, learning languages is a hard way and you must be motivated. I'm just starting with languages and you motivate me to keep learning. For now I'm learning a lot of Italian and a little bit of German (it's in pause for now, I'm centring in Italian), my native language is Spanish and I really wanna learn other languages. Keep making videos I'll see them all😀. Would you like to learn Spanish? Saludos desde Argentina (Sorry if my English doesn't understand very well I have to keep learning)

Hi Lindie! I dont know if anyone else has said this below, but when you said you should begin to use the language right from the start, "because that's why we learn a language and how babies learn to" speak. It really sounds the same idea/philosophy as Benny Lewis from fluent in 3 months! He said he found that way much better, just like you. You learn by speaking to people and making mistakes. I will try and implement this more in my own learning :) thanks!

Thanks too! I want to learn the same languages as you but in a different order, Japanese to Chinese and then Korean :) Do you think you will make a video with tips and tricks on each language or what helped you learn them? e.g. flashcards/ for hanzi/kanji etc? Maybe its difficult because you studied them from Korean textbooks lol.

Babies and children don't make mistakes many times. Because they just listen first. They start to speak when they did input enough. Besides they just imitate their mothers phrases. Leaning foreign language takes long terms. I don't believe KZbinrs who emphasis short terms. I don't like the sentences as don't afraid of making mistakes. I like the sentences don't afraid of taking time to learn foreign languages. There are two reasons. One is leaning itself is fun. Another one is making mistakes is nomal thing. Talking about mistakes isn't worth. They try to get the result faster. That makes them to have lots of mistakes. They just justify their mistakes. I don't mean you shouldn't make mistakes. People can't speak perfect foreign languages. Imitating phrases takes long time. We imitated our mother's phrases. That's why we can speak our first language without lots of mistakes. We shouldn't want result faster.

I have bouth three books of Korean Grammar in Use (three levels). They are really great! I couldn't help buying all the three. I am a beginner in Korean, though. Thank you for all your videos! Lindie Botes Okay, thanks for the reply. I'm concentrating mostly on Japanese at the moment so I've had to leave Korean for a bit, though do think that 'Teach Yourself Korean' is quite good, as resources for Korean are far fewer than for Japanese. If you get the time do try to learn Zulu or some other African languages. They are so fascinating.

Sorry about that! I am learning Malaysian and Indonesian at the same time, which is a very bad idea since they are so similar from a foreigner's point of view :D I got the book from someone else and didn't know whether it was Malaysian or Indonesian. Terima Kasih :D
@Imamprams
@Imamprams 9 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is an Indonesian novel. It was a well known novel back then in the beginning of 2000s. Though I've never read it, but I've watched the movie. O.. ya, there's also one of indonesian popular novels, translated in several languages, "Laskar Pelangi", also in motion picture. "Rainbow Troops" is the English version (if I'm not mistaken). If I were you I'd drop one of those languages to focus on. It'd cause confusion learning similar languages at the same time. You'll get easier to learn or brush up the other one once you'll have reached a comfortable level. In fact, I, an Indonesian, understand Malay natively when I watch Malaysian news or formal talks on YT. But my understanding is lower when watching Malaysians speaking on daily basis or using colloquialism.
