so if i'm counting right Moses can speak: English Mandarin Cantonese Taiwanese Szechuanese Japanese Korean Hmong Lao Thai Indonesian Vietnamese Cambodian Burmese Tibetan Nepali Hindi/Urdu Bengali Tamil Gujarati Sinhala Arabic Derija/Maghrebi Arabic Assyrian Farsi Pashto Turkish Hebrew Somali Amharic Swahili Twi Yoruba Zulu Mandingo Sierra-Leone Krio Haitian Creole French Spanish Brazilian Portuguese Italian Romanian Serbo-Coatian Macadeonian/Bulgarian Albanian Greek Polish Hungarian Swedish Norwegian Finnish German Russian Georgian Navajo That's 55 languages. Of course many of those he only knows a few phrases but he's at least conversational in at least half of them. That's amazing.
@liqritrs8391
@liqritrs8391 4 жыл бұрын
Bree Arbor his most fluent languages, that he teaches, mandarin and Japanese, he’s upper intermediate to lower advanced level. He’s not even close to fluent in the minority let alone majority of the languages. He’s focused on learning multiple languages while mastering none. That's his goal so I can't criticize it.
@breearbor4275
@breearbor4275 4 жыл бұрын
Liqrit Rs of course, nobody could actually be fluent in that many languages. he’s explained before why he is focused on number of languages rather than mastery of a few, although i think the answer is obvious anyway - he just wants to be able to speak to as many people as possible. his goal is to have conversations and connect with people, not to do philosophy or anything requiring advanced language skills. honestly its an approach that makes a lot of sense, more sense than mastering a language beyond what’s actually useful in everyday life
@liqritrs8391
@liqritrs8391 4 жыл бұрын
@@breearbor4275 well that's his goal so I don't have a comment on it. It's his life, he learns phrases and responses so if you speak any of his languages you can quickly tell he can't speak them, he's reciting phrases. Fair play to do it for 50 languages plus tho, his accents are pretty good too
@breearbor4275
@breearbor4275 4 жыл бұрын
Liqrit Rs i don’t see the need to get salty and downplay it like that, he doesn’t claim to be native level in any of these languages, but he also obviously isn’t only just memorizing a few stock phrases. for some he’s only dabbled and just knows a few phrases, for sure. but there’s a lot of languages on this list at a B1 or higher level, at least a dozen, enough to form a conversation and not just a couple phrases. besides, learning basic phrases is the first step in foreign language learning, and many of these he’s still actively learning.
@liqritrs8391
@liqritrs8391 4 жыл бұрын
Bree Arbor I’m not downplaying it. The two languages he teaches and claims to be fully fluent in is mandarin and Japanese. I watched a video of him earlier today and the conversation, in mandarin, went as follows Wow your chinese is so good Thanks Are you from Brazil? Um, yes, uhm... I don’t live in Michigan, I live in Ontario Oh It was at this stage that the woman realized he’s reciting a script. That’s in his mandarin, which I speak. His French is littered with mistakes when he actually tries to speak his own sentences, the regular learned sentences obviously have no mistakes as he has said it in every video. Now if course it'll have mistakes as it's a language he's learned, I don't take away from that. My entire point is that it's not fluency or even close and very often he makes no sense when he's off script so to claim he's fluent is objectively untrue. I only speak 6 languages fluently, I don’t speak 55. But saying how are you or hello in other languages doesn’t make me fluent either. I’m not bitter... how would I be, this man doesn’t affect me at all and he’s done nothing impressive to me.

I’m a Translator and Interpreter and this may be just talking and engaging in a simple conversation, but you can’t imagine what this feels like for these people. It is the language of their hearts. I strive everyday to get to people’s hearts when I talk to them in their mother tongues. I follow this guy’s videos since quite some time now, and it always brings tears to me eyes when I see these people’s eyes shine the moment they hear some random words in their very own mother in a foreign land.

True, but that Hindi was pretty cringe-worthy. From what I picked up, the two Indian kids were either hesitant to speak Hindi freely or they were simply not taught much Hindi as kids because there Hindi was about as bad as his Hindi. He also had a thick American accent for which people in India would definitely make fun of him. I assume that he is better with other languages but I don't speak the ones he commonly speaks (mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, russian)

@@rizonex5920 that's a very normal situation. A lot of people who move into a country tend to keep to mostly just talking with people who are also from their homeland. And that means they take an extremely long time to actually acquire fluency, or never do. The trick is to go out and only talk to people in the country language when you move somewhere - it's very hard to do at the start (and tempting to take the easy way of just talking with your neighbors in your first language), but you get to a good level much easier. I love the reactions he gets from everyone. If I were to have a super power I would love to be able to communicate with anyone through their native tongue. He was such a legend.

I found this guy and then found out he was not with us any more. What a huge loss of talent to the world. He was one special guy. I hope they are using him as interpreter in heaven.

I figured out his "secret," Moses develops the skill of listening very quickly, and it is his dominant skill, followed by reading. This builds his confidence in speaking.

They say it's not how long you live but what you do with the time you are given. As a black man from Columbus Ohio your channel has motivated me, and I'm sure many others to learn another language. I THANK YOU for sharing your experience with us! Rest In Peace King!

Bro it’s way past my bed time to can’t stop watching. I love when you explore these different cultures. A lot of them are touched that you even bothered to learn a few words. I’m going to show my son this video. He wants to travel the world but if you don’t speak the language you’re not experiencing it. Keep exploding these peoples brains and breaking down barriers. You’re building bridges in an age where most people feel comfortable building walls. Def need more people like you!

This guy is my hero because you can hear that he's struggling in some of these languages, but he doesn't care at all, he just presses on!

I can’t be the only one getting emotional all over again, as if I just watched these videos for the very first time. The many lives he’s touched and inspired through casual conversation. We lost a great one!! 😔❤️🙏🏼

I had a great feeling come over me watching the fishing scene after the passing of Moses/Laoushu. It really hit me on how he planted the seed of understanding between dialects from China. I am truly inspired right now to the point of happy tears. Tears of pure inspiration! I know what I will do. Eternal thanks to you Laoushu aka Moses McCormick. Your voice laugh, and purpose shall live on for year's!!!
