It's due to the fact that women being able to support themselves independently outside of a man's household has only quite recently become socially acceptable (or even legal, in several countries). Historically, if your husband had no money, you probably had no way to increase your income, and would just have to live and die in poverty. So, yeah, there's always a reason behind things, and the reason is often the sad reality rather than the original thing.

Women are subconsciously looking for the better mate to care for and support a family and wealth is an initial representation of that, especially when scouting out a dating scene of essentially complete strangers of whom you may know nothing else about other than what you can see or deduct from it. Plus lying isn't considered as bad or problematic or uncommon as many other countries. That said, the reason I would expect you to say that is that many Thai people (or just many places in general) people will somewhat/sometimes exploit their foreigner lover because they're richer, and/or to get to that country, and in such a case one wouldn't want to upset them.

If Are you wearing name brand clothing, gold watch, gold chains...gold Jewelry etc...or tipping big, or they know you're from the UK or America...yup you're handsome to them as they want a better life (majority of ladies)..so they will hit on or make themselves known to foreigners(farang in thai). They are known as Farang hunters..why...cause they actively hunt you down and do everything to get you to give them money, marry them, or become a long term bf. Not saying all of them are that way, met a few who were really looking for love the right way, but the majority just want to escape the life they lead which can be very unpleasant depending on their education, social status and background. Not saying you couldn't be attractive to some of them, but having spent as much time as I have living there for more than 10 yrs I would not take what they say seriously. Small tip...they do not do the engagement thing really...sinsod(payment of dowry does happen of course...always asked to the parents about the amount...not the girl. unless you want to be rude.)..its boyfriend...then straight to husband...lot of thais get married by the age of 17 on average(among girls, for boys/men usually the marrying age is around 20ish on average.). Expect drama a lot if you do not follow thai social norms with her. She will be in charge of your money(salary, bonuses, profits from stocks..or other investments.), she will donate a certain amount constantly every month to temple/monks, she will give money to her parents as well as every sick/hurt/poor relative she has (can be upwards of 50 relatives) according to thai social norms...relatives can include aunties, uncles and cousins who have absolutely no real blood relations to her or her family, but are close friends of your blood relations..or are part of the big wig local villagers. Your thai wife will maybe ask you to go into a business such as a restaurant, nail salon/hair salon, small shop(usually like a smaller version of seven eleven.) which require bribes to the local big wigs, donations for blessings regularly from the temple monks, discounted booze for the local law enforcement or cash for them to protect your store from thieves. After all of that you also have to have thai business license fee, taxes...etc. So after a few months of your paying for all that..unless its a fairly big village/town you maybe running at a fairly large deficit...try to sell your business to get out...but the local officials may or may not want to let you...might say ok you can sell but you still are partial owners...have to hire such and such locals that they are related to an fairly large wage..then after two or three years they will buy you out for an extremely low price. (generousness abounds in local government eh?) at which point your wife thinks you should have let her keep the business as she sees all the big business the shop now does under the guidance and forced patronage of locals due to big wigs connections to little wigs who now run the store. So if you love her...according to her...you should open up...(next genius shop idea of hers.) hair salon/massage parlor. Small hint..it all starts over again. Leaving you constantly working every job you can, to pay for a dead end investment that is literally a money pit. You end up divorcing her, which again costs you a small fortune if you want to get out alive or unharmed by the relatives.(divorce doesn't really happen...lot of accidental farang fell over the railing of apartment/condo balconies...but no divorces without paying through the nose.) You then think..I will never make that mistake again, try to find a more westernized thai gf/wife instead....meet said westernized thai woman...yup westernized alright...cranky, embittered, emotionally unstable...gold digging like almost all the rest you left the west to get away from them. Long story short...there are some good thais and bad ones too...I've met women who were absolute gems, great friends, great people, kind to a fault...only problem...married already or already had a bf.(usually some dumb bunny that was friendly enough, hugely over weight, and not exactly ugly...but wouldn't be handsome by any view point either.) I've been setup on blind dates by those same friends and the ladies were ok, but most had a lot of scars, emotional and sometimes physical....I'm always open to giving someone a chance and being fair....just some scars run deeper than others I guess. Long story short...if you are looking for love in thailand...a lot of caution and really dig deep to find out all you can about the lady (sometimes could turn out to be a ladyboy too..marvelous with plastic surgery for the change I kid you not so be careful.) and know this, they do the things they do cause of the way they were raised...its not intentionally hostile, or greedy motivations..most of it is just about the social norms for thai society. There are a lot of good things in thailand...and good people too...but as a foreigner...well you will always be a foreigner in their eyes regardless. There is also tons of racism against foreigners there too..left because I couldn't stand it anymore in the work place...especially when you know enough thai to understand what they say behind your back.

Nope. Whilst most Asians prefer to have big eyes (double eye lids), a tall nose bridge and a small v shaped face, these features are not neccessarily "European". Your comment ignores the fact that any race, any ethnicity has their own fair share of people who have big eyes, tall nose bridges and small faced people and instead highlights the belief that Western people are believed to be more desirable than any other race (which is wrong). Its almost like you're saying that because most Asians are thin, it can be classified as an "Asian" feature and when some Western people say they want to lose weight and become thinner, it means that they want to be more Asian. It just simply does not work this way.

not meaning to pour on your parade, but i think it's VERY easy for a western woman to get married in china.. remember the gender imbalance? there are way too many men compared to women. so if a chinese man can't get married with a chinese woman, he'll search for foreign women. and if a/the foreign woman is not very picky, then she'll be married in no time. in any case, i hope eyou and your husband will be happy and grow old together. that's what matters most. ;)

Basically Chinese women want what they can't easily find in China - tall, ripped guys. Talk about setting yourself up for disappointment! It's changing though; with richer diets, my teenage students are really tall, I think there will be a lot of 6ft+ guys and 5ft9+ girls in the upcoming generation. They're not gonna get chest hair any time soon though.

I know plenty of tall Chinese women, and they are very pretty and definately as built as some of the other girls, but then again, they are westernized and live in California... I do see lots of tiny Moung and Korean women. The East Indians are mixed, some super tiny and thin, others, curvey and well built. In fact, we have a women who I think is barely 4foot 8 inches. I thought she was a elementy child when I first met her.

Phoenix native here. I embrace the heat. Only come inside to sleep. Avoid the sun when possible and lots of water. Human body adapts if you let it. My grandson is 18 months old and wants to be outside all the time. Over the summer I did limit him to one hour at a time for his safety. He screamed bloody murder every time I took him inside to cool off.

I'm under 170 and had plenty of "luck" in my youth but as status and shit gets more important, so do these stereotypical superficial images of beauty, career etc (of course, not for everyone, but as a short man finding a suitable partner is like looking for a needle in the haystack). Just concentrate on what you want and what makes you happy, if you really need sex and can't get it, you can pay for it (better than drunken sex with some random chick), probably cheaper than a relationship anyways (well this depends of course on your promiscuity etc :D ). And to be honest, although I've dated a couple women that were somewhat taller than me, I prefer women who are shorter . So I guess you can't blame anyone really, life just happens.
